  6. ---
  7. There are sample responses on p. 449 and 453 of your textbook.
  8. p. 449
  9. 1 discusses - If you’re consistent, using the past tense to describe the reading and the listening wouldn’t be a problem, but usually we talk about texts in the present tense.
  10. - One important thing to note with this integrated task is that the order of the points is different in the reading and the listening. This isn’t very common, but sometimes you might see it on the TOEFL.
  11. p. 453
  12. Remember that all of the examples you use to support your opinion can be lies.

  16. Speaking 1
  17. ---
  18. 1 Introduction: state your choice
  19. 2 Lead-in (optional): “I have two reasons for my opinion.”
  20. 3 First reason: “First, cleaning the bathroom is gross.”
  21. 4 Detail/example: “For example, if you live with men, …”
  22. 5 Second reason: “Second, I have a dishwasher for my dishes.”
  23. 6 Detail/example: “This means doing the dishes is a very simple and fast chore.”
  24. (7 Conclusion - if you have time: “In conclusion, because the bathroom is gross and I have a dishwasher, I would rather never have to clean a bathroom again.”)
  25. - Try to move onto your first reason with at least 30 seconds remaining, and move onto the second reason with 15-20 seconds remaining.
  26. ---
  27. Record your responses to the ETS Guide sample tests.
  28. Listen to your own responses and pick the best one.
  29. ---
  30. - If you want to argue that “it depends”, you need to explain how it depends on what.
  31. - If you pick one side over the other, don’t bring up any arguments for the other side unless you can also explain why they are wrong (or at least why they don’t refute your own argument).
  32. ---
  33. p. 449 - Try to fix the mistakes in the first two paragraphs.
