  1. You should delve yourself into the writings of Antal Reguly, Pál Hunfalvy, Jankó Jànos and Zoltan Kodály.
  2. They all made very noteworthy research of fenno-ugric cultural history, ethnicity, folk tradition and music.
  3. With Ilmari Krohn
  4. Antal Reguly spent long periods of his life in Lapland.
  5. Kalevala is still a mandatory book to read in hungarian high schools.
  6. Thanks to the work of these men. 😀
  7. Way to suck the fun out of finnish mythology! 😸
  8. It's been translated to almost all languages.
  9. Hungarian has somewhat similar words
  10. Like to swallow, nyel - niellä
  11. Finnish culture has more in common with hungarian than hungarian culture has to do with surrounding countries
  12. I suppose you know the history of Hungary with the voivods and wallachians. 😐
  13. It's no wonder they don't like Romanians
  14. I mean, István király was crowned as the first king of Hungary on Christmas night, year 1000. Around the same time, the first borders of the nation were established, the capitol was named to be Esztergom and christianity was the official religion
  15. They continued the Great Reformation of Europe for a long time even during the reign of István. He, however, created a very stable governing system and nation, much in the same way as franks had done.
  16. He is considered the founder of Hungarian nation.
  17. After István died, though, the country was plunged into huge battles for power and was almost conquered by both Germany and Byzantium, but fortunately in 1077, László I the Saint returned peace to Hungary.
  18. The bishop Gellért was declared a saint along with István on 20 of August, I think, in 1083 on the initiative of St. László. That's why august 20th is a national holiday in Hungary.
  19. :3
  20. I can continue if you want!
  21. I'm bored anyway.
  22. Hey, I've read the Ecclesiastical History of Finland wholly. :D
  23. If I was able to read THAT like a fable
  24. You'll be able to do stuff too. x333
  25. Imagine the people and places.
  26. Build villages in your mind.
  27. It's a good system, but for me, if someone interrupts me, I lash out at them and get mad af.
  28. I get into sort of a trance.
  29. And it's like someone would blow a giant card fortress over.
  30. Anywaaaaays, let me continue my lecture, I'm in the mood
  31. Well, after that , Andreas II rose into power and sat on the throne of MAGYAR, and was one of the leading figures of the Fifth Crusade from 1217 to 1218. The crusade was full of losses for Hungary, but it was really fortuitious too, foreign policy-wise. László had ruled with self-confidence and prosperity, so Andreas II had to create the Golden Bulla in 1222, because the economical and stability, as well as the political stability has weakened. The Golden Bulla defined the rights of nobility and peasants. These rights, however, were soon set aside as tatars attacked Hungary multiple times during the years 1241 and 1242.
  32. Many villages and towns, Buda and Pest included, were pillaged and ransacked. King Béla IV himself had to feel from the battle of Muh to live in hiding for a short period of time, until the High Khan Ögödei of Tatars suddenly died and the Batu-Khan, who was in charge of leading the war effort in Europe, withdrew back to Mongolia.
  33. Béla IV returned to Buda and started to resuscitate the ravaged country. They started to build a vast and fantastic defense system consisting of stone forts and castles, which still, to this day, reaches to the neighbouring countries of Hungary.
  34. On the second half of 1200, Buda was thus made the capitol of Hungary.
  35. Is this interesting enough? :3
  36. Put some music on, still have a lot of things to tell and here it gets really interesting.
  37. So, after Árpád-dynasty extinguished in 1301, a frenchman sat on the throne of Hungary from the family of Anjou. Károly Róbert faced the massive, reoccurring interior policy crises combined with economical instability but managed to get things under control. He was succeeded by his son, Ludvig I The Great who expanded the now stabilized Hungary. Luxemburgi Zsigmond magyar király rose into to power after Ludvig and he actually managed to get on the throne of Bohemia too. After this, he became the Holy Roman Emperor. He tried to prevent the chruch from splitting into half and to calm down the kings of France and England who were, er, constantly bickering with each other to put it mildly. During this time, the ottomans from Turkey were constantly harassing Hungary, but Zsigmund managed to fend them off.
  38. Halfway thru 1400 the knight János Hunyadi led his army into the battle of Nándorfehérvár to defend Hungary against the Ottoman Empire yet again. Hunyadi was actually been made a nobleman and the treasurer too as there was yet again a lot of people fighting to rule Hungary. His son, Mátyás Corvinus, became the king in 1458 and during his reign, Hungary was on the very top of its political and cultural influence. Buda was the leading centre of renaissance culture. Also, during his reign, Lower Austria, Steiemark, Moravia and Silesia were all parts of Hungary. After he perished, hungarians thought that justice had died with him, as he was a loved and just king. His death spawned many fights and disputes and the noblemen of Hungary oppressed the peasants with unprecedented brutality. It didn't take long for the people of Hungary to revolt, in 1512 to be precided, unified by György Dószan, a transylvanian bounty hunter. The rebellion was, unfortunately, quashed, and the circumstances in Hungary got even worse.
  39. I don't remember everything though, and very little about Ludvig and Karoly.
  40. After all this, the Ottman Empire started to prepare for yet another war to honour the Qu'ran and spread Islam. In 1526, Hungary suffered a massive defeat in the battle of Mohács and the young king Lajos II was assassinated after the battle which incited a tremendous chaos between the hungarian nobility. Buda was left completely defenseless and so the Ottomans executed a barrage of repeated robberies and assaults into Buda. It was so bad, that the queen with her whole court had to be evacuated to Bratislava just a moment before the Ottomans arrived. The turks conquered Buda for good in 1541 and Hungary was shattered into three parts: The west, ruled by Habsburgs yet again, Transilvania became an autonomical principality which paid taxes to Turke. Other parts were conquered by turks, which resulted in the hungarians and turks clashing all the time, conquering and losing small areas and castles to and from each other for 150 years.
  41. The constant bickering of the hungarian nobility furthered the splitting of Hungary. For a long time, Hungary had, in addition to the Turkish Sultan, two kings, the Fürst of Transylvania János Sapolyai and the Emperor Ferdinand V of Austria. Needless to say, they did not see eye to eye about anything at all and were constantly battling for dominance of Hungary.
  42. Even though I dislike the turks, I have to admit that they brought many nice things to Hungary too. For example, coffee, paprika and corn and stuff.
  43. Also most of the spas of Hungary were built during the ottoman dominion.
  44. After this period starts the Habsburg era, which is too long and complicated for me to try to explain. I'd get my fingers sore, so perhaps another time.
  45. Well I liked to rummage thru the archive in my head and my actual archive. I haven't been sharpening my knowledge of hungarian history for a while, and this provided a nice opportunity to do it!
  46. So, thanks for giving me this opportunity and bearing with me. :#
  47. :3
