  3. Nov 14 20:04:21 * Now talking on #pagemaster
  4. Nov 14 20:06:49 <Domovoi> The inside of the book is as ornate as the cover - it's got gold leaf script and an old, Persian style of illumination. The beginning of the story seems to be about a king who kills his wives after one night, for fear that they will be unfaithful to him. Not very nice.
  5. Nov 14 20:08:17 * ArielA keeps reading through, not sure what was special about the book despite it beign a good story.
  6. Nov 14 20:08:44 <ArielA> being*
  7. Nov 14 20:10:35 <Domovoi> Well of course it's a good story. Pretty soon, it introduces the king's newest wife, a princess. Not merely a princess, but a magic princess kept locked in a tower all alone until her marriage. She practices all day, but never gets any better, so her family gave her away to this crazed king. Isn't that terrible?
  8. Nov 14 20:11:30 * ArielA suddenly becomes interested in the affairs of the princess and reads on, wondering how it turns out for her.
  9. Nov 14 20:17:23 <Domovoi> The princess stays at the king's palace for a few days as her marriage is finalized. There she makes friends with a guard, a retired warrior whose served the king through many wars. Though he doesn't say much, she can sense that he likes her, more than this king ever would. But she must marry the king, as her family demands it. Isn't that terrible?
  10. Nov 14 20:18:08 <ArielA> "This book is so tragic..." Ariel is engrossed in the story though and continues on.
  11. Nov 14 20:23:02 <Domovoi> The story starts to spiral and branch out. The girl knows many stories from her years of studying magic, which she tells to the king at night before they sleep. One such tale involves a talking fish said to grant wishes, but in order to truly understand that, the story winds back to a third story about a farmer. It's addicting.
  12. Nov 14 20:24:11 <ArielA> As she reads, Ariel wonders if there's anything that could apply to her.
  13. Nov 14 20:24:57 <Domovoi> Of course there is. The poor princess even has that name, Ariel. As another page gets turned, you hear a tiny voice.
  14. Nov 14 20:24:59 <Domovoi> <This is bad.>
  15. Nov 14 20:25:40 <ArielA> <What is bad? this story? I actually like it. But it's strange that it has my name....but I..just I need to find out what happens now.>
  16. Nov 14 20:29:03 * ArielA turns the page to find out more.
  17. Nov 14 20:29:35 <Domovoi> <No, you don't understand.> The fish was not really a fish, you see, but a genie who had been sealed inside a jar. And he didn't really grant wishes - after being imprisoned so long, he granted only a choice of death to the man who freed him.
  18. Nov 14 20:30:45 <ArielA> <Maybe I don't understand...perhaps you can explain it?> Ariel looks at the book and pauses, thinking about the realization of things.
  19. Nov 14 20:32:08 <Domovoi> As the princess told the story, this particular night came to a close and she asked the king, "What sort of death would you have chosen?"
  20. Nov 14 20:33:24 * ArielA thinks to herself...maybe the princess is the genie.
  21. Nov 14 20:35:21 <Domovoi> <No, that's not how the story goes, this is something different.>
  22. Nov 14 20:36:14 <Domovoi> There's a sudden wrenching in Ariel's gut that feels like a knife being twisted for 3 damage.
  23. Nov 14 20:37:07 <ArielA> <What is this then?> Ariel hunches over, caughing a little bit. <What..is happening to me?>
  24. Nov 14 20:37:51 <Domovoi> There's some blood spattering the pages - Ariel's blood. The king saw through her tricks and now he's stabbing her to death. Isn't that terrible?
  25. Nov 14 20:38:07 <Domovoi> <Please wake up! I need you!>
  26. Nov 14 20:39:03 * ArielA coughs out more blood before trying to close the book.
  27. Nov 14 20:40:01 <Domovoi> Roll lets say 4d6
  28. Nov 14 20:41:33 <Domovoi> Closing the book is like wrestling a massive spring together, but Ariel manages to get the cover shut. Once the book is closed, it tumbles out of her hands - Ariel is laying on the floor of the aisle where she found the book. The front of her shirt has a red stain on it.
  29. Nov 14 20:42:28 <Domovoi> At this point, you can return to the main room.
  30. Nov 14 20:42:31 * ArielA caughs into her hand, seeing the blood before struggling to her feet once more. <What...happened to me?>
  31. Nov 14 20:43:32 <Domovoi> Well, it certainly feels like a stab wound, but a quick investigation shows no actual puncture, just a lot of blood where it shouldn't be. Mostly on Ariel's clothes and a bit on the carpet and the book itself.
