Your memory loss will be more noticeable, and may\\nbe accompanied by mood changes and confusion. These symptoms are brought about by a number of diseases\\nthat cause changes in the brain. The most common of these\\nis <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents_info.php?documentID=100\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\" title=\\\"Alzheimer's disease\\\">Alzheimer's\\ndisease<\\/a>, which changes the chemistry and structure of the brain\\ncausing the brain cells to die. Other types of dementia\\ninclude <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents_info.php?documentID=161\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\" title=\\\"Vascular dementia\\\">vascular dementia<\\/a>\\nand <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents_info.php?documentID=167\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\" title=\\\"Pick's disease\\\">Pick's disease<\\/a>.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
It's not just about losing your memory<\\/span><\\/p>\\n\\n
People often think of dementia as a form of <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200344\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\" title=\\\"Worried about your memory\\\">memory loss<\\/a>.\\nAnd usually it does start by affecting people's short-term memory.\\nBut it's more than that - it can also affect the way people think,\\nspeak, perceive things, feel and behave. Dementia makes it harder\\nto communicate and do everyday things, but there is a lot that can\\nbe done to help. Every year we understand more about dementia, and\\ndevelop new strategies that can help to boost someone's confidence\\nand maintain their <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200349\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\">independence<\\/a> for as long as possible.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
It's possible to live well with dementia<\\/span><\\/p>\\n\\n
Most of us have an image in our mind of what <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200342\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\" title=\\\"Living with dementia\\\">life with dementia\\nlooks like<\\/a>. That image is often very bleak. So it can be very\\nsurprising to learn that many people with dementia continue to\\ndrive, socialise and hold down satisfying jobs. Even as <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200363\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\">dementia progresses<\\/a>, many people lead active,\\nhealthy lives, continue their hobbies, and enjoy loving friendships\\nand relationships. Of course dementia does make it harder to do\\ncertain things, but with the right knowledge and support it is\\npossible for someone with dementia to get the very best out of\\nlife.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
There's more to a person than the dementia<\\/span><\\/p>\\n\\n
The inspirational people we work with are living proof that life\\ndoesn't end when dementia begins. When someone is diagnosed, their\\nplans for the future might change and they may need more help and\\nsupport to keep doing the things they enjoy - but dementia doesn't\\nchange who they are.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
If you have any concerns or are <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200344\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\">worried about your memory<\\/a>, please contact the\\nAlzheimer's Society <a\\nhref=\\\"https:\\/\\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\\/site\\/scripts\\/documents.php?categoryID=200365\\\"\\n target=\\\"_blank\\\"\\ntitle=\\\"Alzheimer's Society helpline\\\">Helpline<\\/a><\\/p>\\n",

 161. "content": "\\n
Here at the Brothers of Charity Services in England, we have\\nmulti-sensory rooms within the Thingwall Hall and Lisieux Hall\\nsites. The purpose of a Multi-Sensory room is to create both a\\nstimulating and calming atmosphere, used by children and adults of\\nall ages for a number of reasons including therapy, education,\\nrecreation and leisure.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
Multi-Sensory Rooms feature equipment that provides visual,\\nauditory, tactile, kinesthetic and olfactory stimulation.\\nTypically, they have bubble tubes, special lighting, a projector to\\ncast slow-moving images or colours around the walls, a mirror ball\\nwith spotlight and fibre-optic sprays. Lamps, music or sound\\nequipment and aromatherapy materials may also feature in such\\nenvironments.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
A variety of tangible items can be provided, such as cushions as\\nwell as special hanging chairs and massage chairs. Panels with a\\nvariety of textures such as rough surfaces, stiff bristles, smooth\\nor contoured mirrors, beads, or soft and squishy items are often\\nalso included. Fans, bubble blowers, ball pools, water beds,\\nadaptive swings or vibrating mattresses are also sometimes used in\\nmulti-sensory environments.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
A Multi-Sensory Room aims to provide a positive failure-free\\nexperience, allowing stimulation without the need for verbal skills\\nor calling for specific outcomes, aiming to provide a calm but\\nstimulating environment. The focus is to help anybody that uses the\\nroom to gain maximum pleasure from the sensory activity they are\\ninvolved in.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
There are no rules or instructions to follow while using\\nMulti-Sensory Rooms, people can use the environment any way they\\nwish to gain a stimulating experience. People who use Multi-Sensory\\nRooms are given the opportunity to explore what the room has to\\noffer at their own pace, gradually being introduced to the\\nequipment available in the room, enabling more sensory\\nstimulation.<\\/p>\\n\\n
<\\/p>\\n\\n
Recent advances in assistive technology have further enhanced a\\nMulti-Sensory Environment and really allow people to directly\\ncontrol and manipulate their immediate physical surroundings. This\\nwill have a knock-on effect on their skills-development, both\\nphysical and mental, as well as their leisure-based outcomes.<\\/p>\\n",
