<strong>Key Points:</strong>

- Ushio is uncommonly brave for a man his age. Devoted to his work, and his job, he fearlessly chases down Yuusei Fudo to bring him in. After Yuusei leaves prison, he also chases him down until he is told by Security's heads to back off. From there, he becomes a tentative ally and then a full ally.

- Ushio is easily mind controlled. Twice over, he was controlled by a Dark Signer, Rutger, in order to pass on messages and to Duel Jack Atlas in the opening volley of the Signer War. This could be also connected to the fact that as a young man, he was obsessed with money and fought a Shadow Game with Yugi Mutou, who then wiped the greed from his mind.

- Ushio is responsible. He views the younger generation as important throughout the series, and has an uncommon soft spot for children. He goes out of his way to protect children, and regrets being unable to save Martha when she plummeted into the Shadow Game that was the Signer battle. He took care of Rua and Ruka at the same time, when he was driving them around and helped with the children at the orphanage when they lost their "mother".

- Ushio feels like he needs to be important to Mikage. When she had eyes for Jack, he could get jealous of her need for Jack to save her, even though Jack had professed love to Carly instead. Ushio feels jealous, but later placated in Season 2 of 5Ds when he works with Mikage as one of the Only Responsible Adults in this entire franchise.

- Ushio is a duelist, and as a duelist he is compelled to fight every challenge he runs across. Win or lose, he is a great duelist and has only a few defeats under his belt. Before encountering Yuusei, he had a good arrest ratio. He fights with duelist honor, even if his original deck was dirty as hell. He uses a different deck now, focused on riders.

<strong>History:</strong>
Ushio's story actually begins in Yugioh, during the Era of the King of Games. It is here that as a teenager, he extorted money from his classmates in order to fuel an unnatural level of greed. Having put the Millennium Puzzle together, Yugi awoke the shadow known as Yami, then later Atem. It was here that Ushio and Yugi dueled in the first Shadow Game, using a knife and striking through the money with it. Those who lost the game would injure their hand. Ushio, in a fit of rage, tried to stab Yugi. Instead, Yugi mind crushed Ushio, causing him to lose his greed as well as believe for a time, dirty leaves was in fact money.

Fast forward several years, and Ushio is now a member of Security for Neo Domino City. As a Satellite Security member, he is charged with keeping the people docile, as well as preventing them from trying to get to the City. He duels Yuusei Fudo to keep Rally from being arrested, and again when Yuusei escapes to the City. Earning a scar for his actions, Ushio continues to hound Yuusei when he is let out of prison, but at the same time, is told to back off by Jeager.

It's during this time that Ushio is working security for Godwin, when he learns about some of the stuff going on in this City. Still not quite believing, he went to pick up the injured Jack Atlas after the duel that cost him his title as King. But instead of picking Jack up, he was mind controlled by Rutger, and forced into a Shadow Duel against the Signer Jack, and Carly a reporter. He came out of it with no memory, and was told what happened.

After which, Ushio was told to fly the team, now the united Signer group, to Satellite to prevent the resurrection and destruction of Satellite. He helped cook a meal for the kids, despite being embarrassed about it, and tried to save Martha. In the end, he could only protect the children, as he drove Rua and Ruka around, and watched the duels happen. When Aki was brought into her duel, Ushio saved Yuusei and Mikage from a water trap, and it was here that he was present for the last duel against the final Dark Signer.

With the city restored with the Daedelus Bridge being built, Ushio continues to work as a public service officer in the revamped and revitalized Security, as well as D-Wheel Test Instructor.

End Season 1

<strong>Personality:</strong>
Ushio is a devoted and driven man, making up for the mistakes he had once made. With new friends and the kids being part of his life, Ushio is both parent and big brother to the lot of them. As one of the few Completely Responsible Adults in the franchise, Ushio devotes his time to the betterment of the city now that everything has come full circle and the two halves of Neo Domino are joined as one.

He is easily talked into doing things by the younger kids, viewing them as people to protect other than a nuisance. He has great respect for Yuusei and his friends, having feeling that they had a great burden on their backs since they were born. As a duelist he is both honorable and willing to let his cards do the talking for him. Whenever someone is in a bind, Ushio is right there to give them a helping hand.

Ushio also feels attracted to Mikage. It is unclear if she returns his affection this early in the storyline, but they are basically partners come the six month timeskip as working friends. Mikage shows great concern when he is injured early into the second season, and although the relationship is never explained to great detail, it is clear he cares for people, and she cares equally for everyone they call friend and family.

He still feels the effects of Yugi's Mind Crush to this day, having no real desire to move up in the ranks. Captain or higher would styme his efforts to help others, and Ushio seems to prefer whatever rank he has at the given time. He used to be very competitive, but like his original self, will never go easy on anyone in a duel.

Ushio feels like he needs to protect the children more often than not, and watch as they grow. He is more connected to the twins, Rua and Ruka, than he is of the others despite the great and honest respect he has for everyone. He can be a bit of a father to his friends because of their age difference.


<strong>Gem Considerations:</strong> Tell us what gem you have chosen for your character and explain why. Discuss what changes they may go through. I'm looking for an understanding of the system, setting and character! Also consider what sort of trajectory or character goal you have in mind.

Agni Gold Danburite - The major characteristics of this stone are courage, truth and clarity. Clarity representing the state he was in looking for what was next. Truth was the big open world and the world around him. Courage represents the strength he has to go on and picking himself off the floor when things get rough. I intend for Ushio to become one of those reliable adults, and help others when he can. He will be less focused on dueling than Shou would be, but at the same time give a perspective one would have living through the cataclysm that destroyed half of Domino City. I hope to have him as a stable nature and father to many.

Being strong and fast is something that Ushio is used to, having been athletic. The ability to make his monsters real would be a challenge, as he would be hesitant to hurt anyone, but at the same time, would take it up in arms to defend those who he cares about. He would not abuse this power though.
