  1. We need programming support for http://investigativedashboard.org, a research service for investigative journalists.

  3. You would be helping an award-winning network of journalists, creating tools to help them expose corruption and crime, and generating news stories around the world.

  5. The work consists of:
  6. - bugfixes and improvements on the frontend (built in python on google-appengine)
  7. - scraping websites to add to our search feature
  8. - integrating a network mapping tool
  9.  
  10. You'll be working mainly with one in-house programmer (me). We'll start you off with some small tasks (20 hours or so). Assuming that goes well, there will be ongoing work available over the next 6 months or so.

  12. Required technical skills/experience:
  13. - strong knowledge of python
  14. - experience with python web development (we use webapp2 on google appengine, but django/pyramids/flask experience will help)
  15. - Javascript
  16. - HTML/CSS
  17. - English language
  18.  
  19. Knowledge or experience in any of these areas is a bonus:
  20. - git or other version control
  21. - google developer APIs (appengine, drive, etc)
  22. - web scraping
  23. - web design
  24. - ElasticSearch, Solr, or other search/indexing systems
  25. - Linux

  27. We are based around eastern Europe. You can be located anywhere in the world, but you should be able to communicate with us primarily during working hours here.
