- We need programming support for http://investigativedashboard.org, a research service for investigative journalists.
- You would be helping an award-winning network of journalists, creating tools to help them expose corruption and crime, and generating news stories around the world.
- The work consists of:
- - bugfixes and improvements on the frontend (built in python on google-appengine)
- - scraping websites to add to our search feature
- - integrating a network mapping tool
- You'll be working mainly with one in-house programmer (me). We'll start you off with some small tasks (20 hours or so). Assuming that goes well, there will be ongoing work available over the next 6 months or so.
- Required technical skills/experience:
- - strong knowledge of python
- - experience with python web development (we use webapp2 on google appengine, but django/pyramids/flask experience will help)
- - Javascript
- - HTML/CSS
- - English language
- Knowledge or experience in any of these areas is a bonus:
- - git or other version control
- - google developer APIs (appengine, drive, etc)
- - web scraping
- - web design
- - ElasticSearch, Solr, or other search/indexing systems
- - Linux
- We are based around eastern Europe. You can be located anywhere in the world, but you should be able to communicate with us primarily during working hours here.
