- >The air is ice cold, but it does little to penetrate your thick winter coat.
- >The darkness of the night is lit up by a series street lights that guide you home.
- >You look up and take note of the aura of warmth it forms against numerous snowflakes that seems to stand still in the frigid air.
- >It’s just another shitty night in this fucking city.
- >You stumble over a hard patch of ice and almost fall over.
- >Thank god you decided to limit your drinking at the bar.
- >How did you do it? Easy, you didn't bring all your money.
- >That’s how it always is, or else you’d drink till you dropped.
- >You look down at the sidewalk ahead of you and notice its glossy appearance.
- >Being the very unlucky person you are, you decide you'd rather take a different route instead of taking your chances on what looks to be ice.
- >Thankfully, there is a short alleyway to your right.
- >You were going to take a right at the end of the next corner anyways, so it’s not out of your way.
- >You enter the alley.
- >Every step comes with the audible sound of snow crunching against the sole of your shoes.
- >The tall buildings, on either side of you, sever little protection against the cold.
- >As you walk by, you notice a box with a little sign on the ground near it.
- >You pick it up, brush the snow off and read.
- *Looking for a home*
- >Not being sure what to do, you kneel down and take a look in the box.
- >You can make out the dark shade of what you think is yellow fur, and maybe a pink mane and tail of what looks to be a mare.
- >An Equestrian?
- >You also take note of the outline of three butterflies on her flank.
- >Although she is shivering, you doubt she’s awake, or else she would have noticed your presence.
- >Either way, it doesn't look as though she’ll have a good nights rest.
- >Things like this are common, and you know better not to get involved with other’s affairs.
- >You get up.
- >There was a time when you were generous, willing to do whatever, for whoever, but that only gave you problems and caused you pain.
- >You turn to walk away.
- >To discern those who are worth your time against those who are not isn't always an easy task.
- >You take a few steps.
- >As much as you hate your life, you know there are others out there that have it way worse.
- >You stop.
- >It’s moments like these that you wished someone were there for you.
- >You turn around, unzip your coat, and walk back to the foot of her box.
- >You kneel down once again and bestow your coat, wrapping it snugly around her.
- >Her shivering seems to stop immediately.
- >You get up and continue your walk home.
- >Although you can see your breath in the chilled air, you feel unusually warm.
