  1. The first to be made are issues surrounding management. From an outside point of view these issues may seem as if our team don’t like being managed and that being the motive behind our concerns, however, it’s the complete opposite. For many of the colleges, our management team are not that of whom you can easily talk to about problems regarding anything in the workplace. It’s not that they aren’t approachable, but rather nothing gets done after the conversation to try and improve on or rectify the concerns rendering the whole point of raising them useless. As well that, there seems to be no motivation coming from management what-so-ever in regards to making the environment an enjoyable one for everyone to look forward to coming and working in. This is where the third point surrounding management comes in, communication. Over the past few months the store has been going through some very rough times in terms of under-staffing to the point where we have had colleges from other stores coming in and working with us to ensure we can just about stay afloat. This is a respectable management decision which nobody can fault, however, there has been no communication from management at all regarding who is starting with us, what position they are filling, for how long they will be with us etc. For each new person, it’s has just been a case of stumbling upon them mid-shift without any formal introduction which in a professional work environment, we all deem to be unacceptable. The final issue to be raised regarding management is the lack of presence. This point does not carry the same weight as the others in terms of integrity, however, we still see it as important. Most of the managing staff are invisible on the shop floor. For the majority of them, any chance they get to be out the back in the warehouse, they will take.
