- Golden Sun Problem of the Day #1
- Segment: Bilibin to Imil
- Problem: The chest that gives the elven rapier messes up the RN seed forcing a hard reset. Hard resets take a lot of time to do (something like 11-14s from memory) so if you can avoid the hard reset here you're saving a big chunk of time.
- There are two ways to get around the hard reset;
- 1) Once you hold the rapier up, don't hit any buttons until the rapier naturally comes to you (this costs 2.5 seconds)
- 2) Mash/time A+other buttons so you can clear the dialogue box as quick as possible (I can get within 5 frames regularly, 3 frames very often)
- The problem with (1) is that with the current route, the encounters you get after picking up the rapier suck and will probably end up being overall slower
- The problem with (2) is that with the current route, 3 of the 5 frames that I can hit give the same party (x1 Ghoul) each requiring a different number of ACs to run from (0, 1 and 2 iirc). This would be annoying in a run for obvious reasons (plus you have to learn 5 RN seeds t_t, oh well if its faster it must be done!)
- (1) would be easier in a run but (2) would be fine (although there's more work in making this route good, and not losing the 2.5 seconds advantage over (1) across all of the different RN seeds)
- CHALLENGE: Get from Bilibin to Imil cutting out the hard reset and saving time over the current route (ideally with a route with similar stats to the current route)
- The current route that I use has the following stats (not counting mandatory things like casting growth):
- 1 Hard Reset
- 102 EXP Gained (important! x3 ghouls gives this)
- 6 Encounters (2 pre-cave, 3 in cave, 1 after cave)
- 5 Attack Cancels
- 2 Menus (one to set djinn/equip rapier, one to use mind read)
- 1 Psynergy Use in overworld (mind read)
- +3 Atk on Issac on level up (if this was +4 some time can be saved)
- 0 Damage taken
- The my notes for this section are:
- Go around back of statue when leaving Bilibin, then left & up
- Zombie/Skelton 0AC
- Rat mob – 1AC
- Elven Rapier:
- Djinn (R); Garet (R), flint
- Item (R); Isaac, UR
- Bilibin Cave/Imil path:
- Golbins: venus (U)/mars (D)/Ray
- Goblin – 1AC
- x3 Goblin – 3AC
- x2 Slime – 1AC, Mind Read after
- Enter below the first “branch” of the forest, minimise time in forest
- to get 1 encounter (else 2ac)
