- >Well, here you are.
- >Standing in your dad’s garage.
- >You have it all set up, no note though.
- >They already know why.
- >Whatever the wife didn’t take, the bank did.
- >All that hard work for nothing.
- >Lost the home, lost the business, lost the family.
- >You considered just killing them instead.
- >Just to go out with a bang, but this seemed more fitting.
- >You kick out the stool and feel the rope tighten.
- >That was two months ago.
- >Now you’re here… in Equestria.
- >About to do the same thing again.
- >This time you pray that you don’t wake up in another world.
- >Just let it end.
- >You down the last of your liquor and leap off the cliff without hesitation.
- >You lept off back first.
- >Looking up at the clear blue sky.
- >Not a cloud in sight.
- >You close your eye’s listening to the air whip past you.
- >It is very conducive to your thoughts.
- >It wasn’t that Ponyville or Equestria was a bad place.
- >Quite the opposite, ponies were kind.
- >Sure it was a little hard for a while being a new species and all.
- >But they quickly warmed up to you.
- >Maybe this was an asshole thing to do, but it’s what you want.
- >It’s your choice.
- >”Hold on dude. I got you.”
- >You feel a pair of hooves wrap under your shoulders and begin to slow you down.
- >Goddammit! You just can’t seem to get this death thing right!
- >You reach the bottom of the cliff, and are gently set down by Dash.
- >”Ha! That was a close one wasn’t it? You know, it’s probably not such a good idea to be
- >drinking next to cliffs.”
- >You let out a cry of anger and throw your empty bottle against the cliff.
- >”Whoah, chill out man! I didn’t say you had to quit the sauce.”
- “That’s not it, that was intentional.”
- >”The bottle, well yeah, duh.”
- “No the cliff.”
- >”Well it is a nice view, juuussst… maybe you shouldn’t dri-“
- “I jumped on purpose you div!”
- >The blue pegasus seems to double take at this.
- >”What? Why would you do that.”
- >Both your hands go to your head, you’re gonna have to explain this one aren’t you.
- >At least the last time you didn’t have to deal with this.
- “To kill myself, why else?”
- >Your hands shoot out to the sides.
- >She actually seems a little frightened at the concept of suicide, she backs down a little.
- >”B-but why?”
- “Look, I never told you guys how I got here.”
- >You sit down with your back against the cliff face; this is probably going to take a while.
- “I lied when I said that I didn’t know how I got here… Truth is I hanged myself.”
- >Rainbows eyes go a little wider as she trots over to sit next to you.
- >It’s an uncharacteristic display of maturity from her.
- >”…What happened?”
- >Hey voice rather reminds you of Fluttershy’s in this instance.
- “Me and the missus started getting into arguments. She wanted me to sell off my store and
- Get a ‘real’ job.”
- >You don’t cry anymore when you think about it, there’s no anger either, everything is just
- >very matter of fact. You quickly scan Rainbows body language; she’s here for the long haul.
- >She was a moron, and she was annoying, but deep down she was a good pers-pony, a good pony.
- “After a couple of weeks she just up and left. I got the papers the next day. Fastest divorce I’ve ever heard of. I couldn’t afford a lawyer, her family paid for hers. She got near everything… After that, I had trouble running the store on my own, and the ex wasn’t giving my products a very good reputation.”
- >You pause for a couple seconds, pulling yourself back together.
- >”Why? Why would she do this?”
- “She blamed me for wasting the best years of her life. Fuckin hell, it takes two to make a
- Marriage. Either way the store closed, I couldn’t pay off the startup loans, so what little I
- had left got repoed.”
- >”Repoed?”
- “Repossessed, like say you owe someone… 20 bits, but you can’t pay them back, but you do
- have an item worth twenty bits. They’ll come by and take the item to settle the debt.”
- >”oh”
- “So that’s what happened to me, but with everything. My dad said I could stay with him.
- After a couple of weeks I just couldn’t take it anymore. Work was scarce, money was non
- Existent. The two things I based my life around just left or died.”
- >”You still haven’t answered my question, tell me why.”
- >She was getting pushy going back to the Rainbow you knew.
- “Look I killed myself, I quit the game, I quit life. I didn’t want a second go!”
- >”I can’t believe it. You get granted a second chance, and you throw it away again.”
- “Look I didn’t want this. I was done, and I still am. I came all the way out here so I would
- Ruin your day with my sad sack story!”
- >She’s getting irritated now. Her ears slick back, eyes narrow.
- >”You. You don’t just live for yourself, but for those around you.”
- >Were you really going to get a lecture on the meaning of life from Rainbow?
- >”What do you think would happen to Twilight, huh? Celestia herself put Tiwlight
- >In charge of taking care of you. What would happen to her when you turn up dead?”
- >Huh, she has a point. You went to great lengths to minimize your impact on those around
- >you, but some things couldn’t be changed.
- >”Not to mention we don’t even know how human funerals work.”
- “Eh, you just kinda dump us in the ground, or burn the body. Both work.”
- >Your lackadaisical attitude, serves to only further irritate her.
- >”Look! Even if you don’t want to live anymore, other ponies want to see you alive.”
- >She turns around and begins to hover off.
- >”Suck it up.”
- >Huh, she sounded oddly like your dad just then. Almost exactly.
- “What did you say?”
- >There’s no sarcasm behind your voice, just an honest question.
- >She stops midflight, and turns around.
- >”Look, we just want to see you happy. If this is it, then so be it.”
- >She seems a little sad at this admission.
- >You take a deep sigh, and walk towards her.
- >Now you just want to put this behind you.
- “Let’s just go home; maybe Twilight needs help with some experiments or such.”
- >There you go, got her to smile. It’s small, and sad, but you’ll take it.
- >”I’m not going to find you here again am I?”
- >You chuckle.
- “I may not be living for myself yet, but living for others is a start.”
- >”That’s better”
- >Again, she sounds exactly like your dad.
- >The walk back takes a lot less time than you remember.
- >There are no ponies around even though it’s midday.
- >Just the 6 in front of you. You begin to worry.
- >”Son! Answer me!”
- >What the hell, you look over your shoulder. Rainbow is still hovering next to you.
- >And still hovering over the 6. What the shit.
- >”Oh, god I fucked up, I’m so sorry… I should… I…”
- >Is that your dad?
- >The world begins to melt around you; it’s a little more than terrifying.
- >It all runs away, even the ponies, like they were paint being washed away.
- >Eventually it’s just darkness.
- >Your shaking, something is moving you. Panic grips at you, seizing up all thought.
- >Your eyes are forced open by your panic.
- >There’s your dad holding you, in the garage.
- >You wrap your arms back around him; he tenses up before relaxing again.
- >”Thank god.”
- >Tomorrow will be better.
