  1. New Anarchist Research Group - March Meeting
  2. Saturday 26th March, 2016 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm
  3.
  4. Debt & Dispossession: the University, Neoliberalism and urban re-engineering
  5. Ben Beach
  6.
  7. After studying at University college London (UCL) during the disturbances of 2010-13, Ben currently works as a junior architect. He is presently involved with the Radical Housing Network and the UCL Rent Strike.
  8.
  9. In 2013, UCL planned to evict 700 residents from the Carpenters Estate to make way for an East London campus financed through student debt. Whilst the scheme was halted by student and resident pressure, the project demonstrated that the intensification of Neoliberalism within universities is directly effecting massive urban expansion programs. The discussion will explore this accelerating trend in the context of the continuing housing catastrophe, with a view to exploring strategies of resistance to a Neoliberal urbanism not just as a process of financialisation but a spatially manifest strategy of class warfare.
