  16. [2014-10-22 13:21:01] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mare-Do-Well suddenly thinks, 'Damn.... what Twilight wouldn't give to be here now.'
  17. [2014-10-22 13:21:07] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream moves around some ferns over or whatever's available to hide the wagon. She very notably put the CRUX and the gold into the compartment. "Alright, alright. Let's go, let's go."

  19. [2014-10-22 13:21:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3It turns out, covering the wagon is a lot harder than it looks. But Golden_Dream and Shatara keep trying. Fourth time is the charm! Nobody is going to find this firewagon! In fact, Shatara should probably mark the location on his PipBuck to make sure the /party/ can find it.

  27. [2014-10-22 13:31:10] * CopyCat looks left... and right. She blinks. "I... don't know."
  28. [2014-10-22 13:31:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3It appears that they are not the only ones interested in the Temple of the Quetzalcóatl Empress. The smokey shadow of the Empress continues to fade until only Bookwright is able to make out any sign that She is there. That's when he and Shatara powered gliders launching from the pirate ship hidden in the clouds and arrowing towards the temple.

  32. [2014-10-22 13:37:19] * Noble_Heart frowns and looks towards the temple. "It seems that whatever is there has attracted their attention as well. Conflict seems inevitable."
  33. [2014-10-22 13:37:24] * Golden_Dream lifts her shotgun. "Get inside. We're gonna ambush 'em."
  34. [2014-10-22 13:39:50] * CopyCat nods to Golden_Dream. "Ah, um, yes! Fast shoes on, everypony!"
  35. [2014-10-22 13:40:44] * Bookwright looks at the gliders. "I don't think we're going to get there before they do. We'd better put a hustle on though."
  36. [2014-10-22 13:56:13] * CopyCat follows Bookwright's train of thought with concern. "I don't think we can get there first even if we fly... but we could get there before they have time to get prepared."
  37. [2014-10-22 13:56:51] * Bookwright nods. "That's exactly what I was thinking."
  38. [2014-10-22 13:59:03] * CopyCat spreads her wings, then frowns, looking at Bookwright, Golden_Dream, and Get_Lost. "If we carried you on our backs we would be too slow. How would the rest of you follow?"
  39. [2014-10-22 13:59:50] * Bookwright takes in the trail between the group and the temple. He deadpans, "Quickly."
  40. [2014-10-22 14:00:03] * Mare-Do-Well 3trots anxiously in the air. "Icangettherebeforethem!" ~~ghostlyzoom!~~
  41. [2014-10-22 14:00:48] * Golden_Dream perks up. "WAIT, Mare-Do-Well, no!" She shouts, taking off after her. Shitshitshitshitshit
  42. [2014-10-22 14:01:32] * CopyCat nods, trusting the confidence she felt from Bookwright. "Okay, we'll see you there!"
  43. [2014-10-22 14:01:58] * CopyCat hops into the air and starts the fly towards the temple.
  44. [2014-10-22 14:02:45] * Bookwright calls after CopyCat. "Stay safe!"
  45. [2014-10-22 14:03:39] * CopyCat refreshes her Precognition as she flies, hoping to indeed 'stay safe'.
  46. [2014-10-22 14:03:55] * Bookwright turns and addresses the ground-bound members of the group. "We got a bit of a trail ahead of us, but I ain't afraid of a little walking and neither should you! Let's go!" He starts down the trail at a brisk pace, keeping his eyes on the shrinking forms of the fliers as they increase the gap.
  47. [2014-10-22 14:05:02] * Noble_Heart moves along with the others as quick as she can manage through the underbrush. Which isn't really that quick, considering her size and that 'underbrush' includes 'low branches'.
  48. [2014-10-22 14:11:44] * Get_Lost tries following the others, but is slow and clumsy
  49. [2014-10-22 14:19:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream runs well ahead of the others on the ground, chasing after Mare-Do-Well (whose stopped being visible the moment she shot out of her friends' immediate vicinity).
  50. [2014-10-22 14:20:23] * CopyCat flies over the treetops, all green and alicorny. She had been given a mission. Joy! It felt good to be useful.
  51. [2014-10-22 14:20:56] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Above, Shatara and CopyCat soar towards the temple, quickly passing Golden_Dream below. The gliders are faster, and have a head start. Shatara might be able to match them to the entrance, but it would mean leaving CopyCat behind.
  52. [2014-10-22 14:21:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The gliders above and ahead seem to hit a small patch of turbulence, but straighten themselves out, vectoring in for a landing.
  53. [2014-10-22 14:25:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As Shatara and CopyCat approach, they feel something -- like a shadow passing over them, cold and hungry -- but the feeling is faint and it passes almost immediately.
  54. [2014-10-22 14:27:03] * CopyCat shivers, glancing over to Shatara to see if he had felt it as well.
  55. [2014-10-22 14:29:25] * Shatara shudders a bit, glancing between CopyCat and the others.
  56. [2014-10-22 14:34:45] * Get_Lost loses a lot of distance, staying way behind the others... maybe this is not that bad, since she has no weapons and the pirates could be less than friendly
  57. [2014-10-22 14:36:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The gliders, three of them, have landed. Their zebra pilots disembark, wearing armor of exotic leathers, and approach the temple quickly but cautiously.
  58. [2014-10-22 14:40:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Two of them are keeping a good eye out as they approach, and they spot the incoming griffin and alicorn. One of the two alerts their oblivious third companion while the other lifts a foreleg and prods with his nose at a device that looks to Shatara like it was scavenged out of pony power armor.
  59. [2014-10-22 14:42:05] * CopyCat calls out, probably pointlessly. "Hello in there! We are pony tourists from Equestria and we've gotten a little lost! Would you kind zebras be able to show us around?"
  60. [2014-10-22 14:47:07] * Shatara sighs, facetalons, and hopes bullets on fire don't follow.
  61. [2014-10-22 14:49:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebras look to each other in confusion. Formerly Oblivious draws a cutlass, while his companion whispers to Strange Device while pointing at CopyCat and Shatara.

  63. [2014-10-22 14:50:41] * Shatara tries to play along and smile friendly-like. If nothing else, they were buying time for the others to catch up.
  64. [2014-10-22 14:52:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As the two near, Shatara's E.F.S. notifies him: one hostile, two non-hostile. At least for now.
  65. [2014-10-22 14:52:24] * Golden_Dream , on the ground, while trying to keep up with Rainbow Dash, also really tries to avoid line-of-sight of the entrance to the horrible ziggaraut.
  66. [2014-10-22 14:52:46] * Bookwright gallops as fast as he can for the temple.
  67. [2014-10-22 14:53:35] * Get_Lost follows the others, gasping and spitting a lung
  68. [2014-10-22 14:53:50] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Strange Device suddenly winces, looking confused and alarmed. At the same moment, a burst of static and gibberish cuts across Shatara's E.F.S.

  70. [2014-10-22 14:54:54] * Shatara frowns. "Looks like they're getting the same breadcrumbs we are..."
  71. [2014-10-22 14:55:28] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra shouts something in zebra that, even without knowing the language or being able to read their minds, CopyCat can interpret as "What the fuck was that?!"
  72. [2014-10-22 14:57:04] * Noble_Heart moves through the jungle towards the temple as best she can.
  73. [2014-10-22 15:01:20] * CopyCat glances at Shatara. "They seem very nervous, but not hostile yet. We may be able to wait for the others."
  74. [2014-10-22 15:01:59] * Shatara nods, resuming smile and wave, keeping particular close watch on the red guy.
  75. [2014-10-22 15:05:39] * CopyCat nudges Shatara. "Oh, and look tourist-y!"
  76. [2014-10-22 15:07:05] * Shatara unconvincingly drapes a tropical shirt over the cloak over his armor.
  77. [2014-10-22 15:08:22] <Kkat> Formerly Oblivious shouts, pointing towards the jungle where he caught a glimpse of somepony else approaching quickly.
  78. [2014-10-22 15:08:33] * CopyCat looks for a horse-Mc Donalds.
  79. [2014-10-22 15:10:25] * CopyCat puts on a fake grin and speaks to Shatara through her teeth. "I think the rest of our tour group is worrying them."
  80. [2014-10-22 15:13:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Strange Device starts poking at the device on her foreleg while Pointing-Is-Rude turns to try to spot what Formerly Oblivious did.
  81. [2014-10-22 15:14:01] * Golden_Dream hears the barking and decides that now would be a good time to halt and find a place to hide. Celestia Damnit, Dash. If you had a face, I'd slap you silly for going off like that. You /know/ we can't know if you can be gone for good if you get away from the seeds!
  82. [2014-10-22 15:14:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Pointing-Is-Rude apparently doesn't see anything, and takes on a posture that suggests she doesn't trust Formerly Oblivious' eyesight.
  83. [2014-10-22 15:19:17] * CopyCat clears her throat. "So this is a very nice temple you have here. Can you direct me to the gift shop?"
  84. [2014-10-22 15:19:55] * Golden_Dream pauses for a very uneasy moment before crawling and then sneaking on tippy-hooves towards the direction Dash went.
  85. [2014-10-22 15:21:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The rest of the party's ground force is approaching the edge of the jungle surrounding the temple.
  86. [2014-10-22 15:24:57] * CopyCat points at the zebra's device. "Did you make this? Is it a cultural artifact? Can I buy it?"
  87. [2014-10-22 15:25:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As Golden_Dream moves beyond the jungle, slipping stealthily into the sun-bathed zone of dead earth surrounding the Temple of the Quetzalcóatl Empress, she feels a chill pass through her, and a vague sense of fevered longing. But it passes like a bad memory.
  88. [2014-10-22 15:28:54] * Golden_Dream shivers, the fur on the nape of her neck standing up on end. Right now, she's just happy her fur color was letting her blend in with the jungle, even if it never let her wear anything that matched her conflicting colors. She went prone and watched for Rainbow Dash, keeping an eye on the zebra pirates as well. She... Didn't like this situation at all. How should she disarm this?
  89. [2014-10-22 15:39:08] * CopyCat stalls for time. "I would like to buy some spices, please."
  90. [2014-10-22 15:39:46] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The others reach the jungle's edge.
  91. [2014-10-22 15:41:18] * Bookwright slows to a walking pace and stops at the edge to confer with the others. "So, haaah, what're gonna, hoo, do now?"
  92. [2014-10-22 15:41:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Pointing-Is-Rude calls out to CopyCat. But everything she says in an odd tongue.
  93. [2014-10-22 15:47:11] * Golden_Dream sloooowly starts drawing her shotgun, hiding underneath as much foliage as she can put over her.
  94. [2014-10-22 15:49:30] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Bookwright recognizes the make-up of the pirate's tongue. Traditionally, the zebras in classical times had two languages -- the high language of government and nobility and the low language of the people. The pirate is speaking in a hodgepodge of the two languages.
  95. [2014-10-22 15:50:23] * CopyCat nods in a friendly way towards Pointing-Is-Rude. "Yes, I will take three please!"
  96. [2014-10-22 15:51:40] * Golden_Dream peers up at where the airship was last.
  97. [2014-10-22 15:52:29] * Bookwright whispers to Get Lost and Noble_Heart, "Interesting. That zebra is speaking a creole of both the high-caste and low-caste zebra languages. She must have grown up in a group where a bunch of zebras from both castes were forced to live together for several generations. Possibly a vault analogue?"
  98. [2014-10-22 15:56:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Pointing-Is-Rude seems to get more insistent and makes hoof-gestures to emphasize whatever she is saying. From the gestures, Shatara and CopyCat can guess they are being told to land.
  99. [2014-10-22 15:57:55] * Shatara tries to find a good spot to land that isn't too far from cover and/or their friends.
  100. [2014-10-22 15:58:57] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Strange Device points towards the jungle where Bookwright, Noble_Heart and Get_Lost are, saying something to Pointing-Is-Rude. The word "tres" is easily understandable.
  101. [2014-10-22 16:00:47] * CopyCat simply lands, a smile on her face, and walks towards the zebras. "Ah, you are inviting me in? I believe zhis means I get to suck your blood now." She says in her best Trotsylvanian impression.
  102. [2014-10-22 16:00:51] * Bookwright steps out into the open and walks calmly towards where Shatara and CopyCat have landed.
  103. [2014-10-22 16:02:52] * Golden_Dream becomes as the ghilly suit and shouts in her mind, [We have to find the Amulet! Either get these guys on our side and quick or give me the sign to start shooting.]

  106. [2014-10-22 16:04:29] * CopyCat bows to the zebra. "Hello! It's nice to meet you!" She offers them a hoof to shake.
  107. [2014-10-22 16:09:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirates stare at each other. Previously Oblivious takes a step, cutlass ready. Then Pointing asks slowly in badly-accented Equestrian, "Speak trade?"
  108. [2014-10-22 16:10:01] * Bookwright reaches CopyCat and brightens immediately. "If this is 'trade', then yes. We speak it."
  109. [2014-10-22 16:10:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra shakes her head. "Trade?"
  110. [2014-10-22 16:10:44] * CopyCat nods.
  111. [2014-10-22 16:11:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She then says. "No Equestrias almost."
  112. [2014-10-22 16:12:52] * CopyCat tilts her head. Then she points at Bookwright's horn, and at Pointing's forehead.
  113. [2014-10-22 16:13:20] * Noble_Heart frowns. "It is quite likely. Or at least somewhere they could take cover." She tilts her head to one side and frowns a little more. "Overcoming the language barrier may be harder than expected."
  114. [2014-10-22 16:14:28] * Bookwright hopes that being literally wrapped in a coatl won't put off the zebras too much.
  115. [2014-10-22 16:19:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Bookwright is able to figure out that "trade" is likely the creole language, and that the zebra pirate's knowledge of Equestrian probably doesn't extend much beyond the ability to semi-effectively say 'I don't speak your language; do you speak mine?"
  116. [2014-10-22 16:20:48] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra looks hopefully to Shatara.
  117. [2014-10-22 16:22:12] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Strange Device says something to Pointing-Is-Rude while giving the party a dark glance. Her words sound accusatory.
  118. [2014-10-22 16:23:03] * Bookwright "Er, Get Lost? Can Parlay act as a translator for us?"
  119. [2014-10-22 16:24:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Bookwright, Noble_Heart and Get_Lost all feel a hungry cold pass over them, like a shadow moving briefly across the sun. Bookwright's coautl panics and disappears into Bookwright's saddlebags.
  120. [2014-10-22 16:26:19] * Noble_Heart shudders briefly and looks upwards. "The Quetzlcoatl Empress is watching."
  121. [2014-10-22 16:26:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost responds, "Parlay is learning. Only understands about every fourth word. But keep them talking and Parlay will soon be able to translate everything!" She refrains, barely, from adding a mwah-ha-ha at the end.
  122. [2014-10-22 16:26:43] * Shatara eeps and figets as the Zebra's interest. He remembers from history that zebras had relations going back a long way with gryphons. He tries his best to remember some of the old language from school.
  123. [2014-10-22 16:28:21] * Bookwright nods. "Scales is hiding from her inside my saddlebags. I don't blame her."
  124. [2014-10-22 16:31:53] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara doesn't recall learning any of the zebra language, but there may be hope that the zebra will understand griffin.
  125. [2014-10-22 16:33:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Pointing-Is-Rude and Strange Device briefly argue. Formerly Oblivious still remains hostile on E.F.S.
  126. [2014-10-22 16:39:30] * Shatara attempts to convey some broken words he hopes convey friendship.
  127. [2014-10-22 16:41:39] * Golden_Dream is noticing that diplomacy is failing and hard, because they just can't understand each other, and Bookie literally can't communicate to be able to pull off a telepathy spell.
  128. [2014-10-22 16:43:15] * Bookwright tries pantomime. First he points at his horn, then at the zebra, then makes talking motions with his mouth and nodding.
  129. [2014-10-22 16:43:31] * Noble_Heart taps her chin briefly and contemplates. "We just need to keep them talking." She furrows her brow. "We wonder where this 'trade' language came from." she paused briefly, "Perhaps survivors from Equestria were trapped here in the end after all."
  130. [2014-10-22 16:45:10] * Golden_Dream starts to feel mighty antsy. [Folks, hurry this up, there's a big bullshit ghost here and I am not getting possessed today.]
  131. [2014-10-22 16:47:30] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The two arguing pirates stop, turning first to Shatara. Pointing-Is-Rude smiles (showing several wooden teeth) and nods, telling Shatara in the same tongue, "Yes! Excellent. I speak griffin-fancy!"
  132. [2014-10-22 16:50:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3They then look at Bookwright's pantomime and, shockingly, both understand it. Formerly Oblivious's mood turns dour as the two debate briefly before Pointing nods to Bookwright and pantomimes back an indication that Bookwright can try his spell on Formerly Oblivious. CopyCat can almost sense the stormclouds behind F.O.'s eyes at this turn.
  133. [2014-10-22 16:51:28] * CopyCat glances at her friends. "I don't think he likes us..."
  134. [2014-10-22 16:51:36] * Bookwright tries to cast his telepathy spell on Formerly Oblivious as unthreateningly as possible.
  135. [2014-10-22 16:52:28] * Shatara barely contains squeeing as the stripeypone speaks back in familiar words. He attempts to reinforce that Bookie's spell will help communicate.
  136. [2014-10-22 16:53:50] * Bookwright touches his horn to Formerly Oblivious' forehead. <The seat of good relations is excellent communication. My name is 'Bookwright'. How are you this fine day?>
  137. [2014-10-22 16:59:51] * Noble_Heart looks back and forth along the edge of the temple, moving just a little bit away, frowning slightly.
  138. [2014-10-22 17:02:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra pirate's eyes widen in surprise. Thoughts flash across his mind, including fears at what things Bookwright might pull from his mind and a nasty suspicion that the leader of this trio volunteered him because she thinks he is expendable. < Larushakwe > is the first firm thought he manages in response. This, it appears, is his name.
  139. [2014-10-22 17:04:47] * Golden_Dream nods slightly. [Pass this along. Bookie, tell 'em that there's a huge angry spirit here and we'd better get inside before it notices us.

The darkness itself seems to be pushing back against it. However, the palpable darkness does not affect everyone equally. Those wearing cultist cloaks see by the light of Noble's horn as if the darkness were wholly natural.

Then Jugeote says something to them, there is some scrambling, and those who can see watch them pull cultist clasps out of their pouches and affix them to their armor. From their expressions, it is clear that once they do so, they can see.

  163. [2014-10-22 17:37:31] * Noble_Heart frowns. "We would assume that the magic in these ruins deprives light to outsiders. Though it is hard to be certain."
  164. [2014-10-22 17:39:01] * CopyCat blinks. "But I can see thanks to your light..." She notices the zebra putting on their claps. "Oh! Try putting one of those cloaks on, Noble_Heart. Somehow they help with the darkness."
  165. [2014-10-22 17:39:41] * Golden_Dream grinds her teeth. [I can't follow y'all in this dark. Not without makin' myself either trip n' fall every five seconds or...] Well, that's an interesting idea. She grabs her cloak and starts to struggle to put it on.
  166. [2014-10-22 17:40:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As soon as the cloak is fastened around her neck, Golden_Dream can see in the darkness.

  171. [2014-10-22 17:53:08] * CopyCat hmms, then reaches into her pack and pulls out the spare cloak she had brought. They had wanted one for each of them, after all. "Here, try this." She drapes the cloak over Noble_Heart's back and fastens the clasp around her neck.

  176. [2014-10-22 17:54:28] * Noble_Heart blinks a few moments in surprise, allowing the light from her horn to become slightly less blinding. "Interesting."
