  1. How to find the source of an HMV:
  2.
  3. Many HMVs have credits, either at the beginning or the end. So always look for your source there.
  4.
  5. Next, if there are no credits, you’re going to want to take a look at the title. Many editors like to include parts of the hentai in their HMV title. For example, the HMV “Disco Resort” uses the hentai “Resort Boin”, “All Kuroinu Go To Heaven” uses ”Kuroinu”, “Call the Best Sister” uses “Swing out Sisters” and “Twisted Airi” uses scenes with the character Airi Akizuki from “Oni Chichi”. So always look at the titles for a clue or even an outright inclusion of the title you’re looking for. It’s a good idea to put some of the key words from a HMV title into a search on http://myanimelist.net/ or http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ or just put the word/words in a regular search engine along with the word “hentai”.
  6.
  7. If you have no luck with the title, the next method is reverse image searching screen caps. This is actually more effective than you might imagine. Open the HMV you’re trying to source and look for moments that make sense for someone to have saved as a still image or a thumbnail. Moments where an entire girl is visible, moments where the “camera” has stopped panning, or moments in a pan where the action is centered are just some of the moments that make sense to cap. You kind of gain a skill for this after a while and finding good screen caps becomes fairly easy. Pause the HMV when you think you’ve found a good spot to cap and then take a screenshot. If you’re using VLC player you can just use the “Take Snapshot” function or just use print screen, whatever is easiest for you. Then go to a search engine that allows you to search the web with images like Google and upload the image into the search. Hopefully your screen cap gets you some hits. If not, you’ll need to go back to the HMV and take a different screenshot and try again. You might come up with some websites that use various languages, so using a browser with a translate function is helpful. You might have to try several different screen caps, but this method is nearly always successful.
  8.
  9. And finally, if you’ve had no luck on your own, head to the HMV Helpline/Chat and ask for a source.

  12.
  13. You will need to give it a day or two for someone to respond. It’s not a heavily trafficked chat, but the people that do go there are generally the kinds of people who would be able to help. People come and go, most people don’t sit in the chat. So don’t be alarmed if after 20 or 30 minutes no one has responded. If no one in Chatzy can help you, no one will begrudge you at that point for asking in the thread.
  14.
  15. Why should you go through all that trouble instead of just asking? Because if it’s in the credits or the title, that’s actually quicker and less trouble. And you’ll be lucky if someone responds to your source request in an hour or so. The reverse image searching screen caps method is actually less trouble than it seems and it too will likely get you to your source faster than asking. Also, this stops the thread from being full of source requests.

  17. If you’re looking for the music in an HMV, again look for it in the credits and in the title of the HMV. After that the easiest method is to use music finding application on a smart phone like Shazam or SoundHoud. Alternatively, you can just use the microphone speech to text search on Google and it will now recognize music just like those other applications.
