  9. Welcome to the Baja Falls Role Play
  10. -----------------------------------
  11.
  12. Baja is a place called many things by the people that know of it, but no one knows it's true name.
  13. It's a world between worlds and "people fall though" holes, the fabric of reality ripping apart and making them end up here. These rips manifest in this world as well, like small, local crackling whirlwinds, called Shaagnaks, from a word found at the back of a ruin, long time ago.
  14. All the different elements of reality and dimensions are more or less on the same level technologically, making everyone sharing the same overall resources and knowledges.
  15.
  16. This means that also non-human characters are welcome to participate in this community.
  17.
  18. A few of the villagers are actually born in Baja, with their parents or perhaps even further back, being the ones that fell through.
  19.
  20. The technological limit is basically compatible with Earth, 1699 CE. Candles, not flashlights or kerosene lamps are your best bet, as are melee weapons and bows/crossbows. If you have a flintlock musket, sooner or later, you will run out of black powder, since all you have are perhaps a few cartridges you had on your person when arriving here.
  21. It seems also that no matter which dimension you originated from, everyone comes from roughly the same technological level, something occasionally discussed over a rence beer in the village hall tavern. We will let you know if someone comes up with a bright theory that endures waking up sober after the discussion.
  22.
  23. When you are caught by one of the mysterious rip storms, the Shaagnaks, you are spinning through a multi-dimensional space. Also, it is not something you intended to do, so the chance of you being prepared for this to happen is less than zero. These two combined means that, if, by pure chance, you happened to hold a crate full of flintlock muskets and powder kegs, you had no chance at all of hanging on it before falling through the ripped reality. When you smashed into the Bajan ground, you only had what you were wearing.
  24.
  25. Of course, it may be some years ago, when you were stranded here, meaning you now have some tools, a house, maybe spouse (from a dimension similar to yours or not, that is optional), a weapon or two, and you are nowadays an integrated member of the Baja Village.
  26.
  27. The Baja Falls Community
  28. ------------------------
  29. The village community is quite loose, not just because people fall through the rips from many different cultures, but also because sometimes those cracks open and people simply disappear. "Here today, gone tomorrow... or in five minutes."
  30.
  31. The general assembly is the council, irregularily held at the village tavern, attended by those of village status, i.e. people able to wear the "Baja Villager" tag. Friends of Baja may sometimes be invited to speak, though.
  32. The leader of the village is the respected Elder sanah. She may have been taken by a Shaagnak, since it was some time since she was seen. In her absence, her steward Word and the council elder Elizabeth Trenton, usually have the final say.
  33.
  34. Some basic concepts:
  35.
  36. Sex
  37. ---
  38. This is an adult sim. Our general guideline is a quote by Mrs Patrick Campbell
  39. ”My dear, I don't care what they do, so long as they don't do it in the street and frighten the horses.”
  40.
  41. Slavery
  42. -------
  43. Slavery is not illegal in Baja per se, it much depends on your background and personal preferences. Some accept it, others frown upon it, others are simply neutral.
  44. However, the village council has decided that no villager may be enslaved by another villager against this person's will. In order to handle this, the judicial terms "enslavement" (against a villager's will = illegal) and "servitude" (accepted by the serving villager = legal) are used.
  45. Note that this applies only to true villagers. Anyone playing the "Free all the slaves" game, getting into arguments, etc, may be considered a disruptive gamer, since OOC most slaves do NOT want to be freed.
  46. Some, like the occasional Gorean slave owner, prefers to settle a bit outside the village, to make sure his property doesn't apply to become accepted as a Baja Villager.
  47.
  48. Village Resources
  49. -----------------
  50. Around the village are several G&S resources to be used by anyone.
  51. The village tavern has a kitchen, a study desk and papyrus factory, and the village hall next to it a mint factory, as well as group joiners and G&S RP HUD dispenser. The main street offers smithy, foundry, butchery and carpentry workshop, The docks offer kooking and fishing. North, east of the port is a cooking house, stocked with surplus ingredients. Anyone can put in more food in the boxes, as well.
  52.
  53. Please respect the private homesteads of other villagers.
  54.
  55. Villagers are welcome to put out their wares at the market, which by default is OOC, but to make sure it doesn't get too cluttered, the general rule for rental space is L$1 per prim and week. Please contact the sim administrator Word for details.
  56. At the ground level, there are X houses for rent. If one is available, a villager can rent it. Non-villagers can apply for becoming members of the group by contacting....
  57.
  58. In Character and Out of Character (IC & OOC)
  59. --------------------------------------------
  60. The area around the market is by defautl OOC, though if people like to, they may be IC in this area. This means that anyone acting IC in this area can require other persons to act IC, it’s only by mutual agreement.
  61.
  62. Combat
  63. ------
  64. Combat is to be limited to duels or smaller groups, not full scale raids or similar.
  65. For combat, most of us use GM. Other combat systems allowed, *if* all participants in a particular conflict agree on it beforehand, are: SPD (pirates), Unity Maxim 2.09 and URA.
  66. VICE, MCE, CCS,DCS2 are considered too modern to be used here.
  67. Magic HUDs like Wishmaster, Ultima, etc are strictly forbidden to be used.
  68.
  69. Magic & Other RP related Power Restrictions
  70. -------------------------------------------
  71. The basic rule OOC is that "Munchkinitis", a k a "immature power gaming", is seen as an affliction by the villagers and anyone seen trying to game the system, claiming to be a super being or have superior powers, are likely to be confined to hospices for treatment (preferably in another dimension, if they seem uncurable).
  72. We all know people constantly try to bypass the letter of any rule for power gaming. If we feel you do, we will let you know.
  73.
  74. The place is also low-mana, with even some kind of damping effects on any kind of magic, especially spectacular ones.
  75.
  76. Inherent powers like Vampires' and Lycanthropic (including "Lycan") become mainly dormant. The last known, hapless vampire perished over a decade ago, due to lack of blood since she seemed unable to feed properly from any victims and her cannisters of blood were lost while being thrown through the dimensional rifts.
  77. Also, the village cultivates garlic and how to make garlic amulets is a well known secret. A garlic amulet dispenser is available in the village hall tavern, in the small study room/papyrus factory.
  78.
  79. Melnibonean Chaos magic, Elder Magic, and other high powered sorcery simply do not work here. In fact, it may even include backlashes, as physical laws and structure hit back, if bent too much.
  80. Smaller illusionist tricks or petty magic may work from time to time, but it is always conjured at one's own risk.
