We know that individual election is wrong because there are no references to individual election in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, election always refers to the nation of Israel.

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
Deut 7:6-7

Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations—as it is today.
Deut 10:15

for you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.
Deut 14:2

Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you.
