Night Rain: Chapter Two

Where’s that damn key? I know they gave it to me, but I just can’t seem to find it. AH! AH AH AH! MY POCKET! It’s like trying to pick a diamond out of a burning pool of napalm with my bare hand! What is this! Oof!
“Hey! Are you ok?!”
It’s Tanaka. What’s she doing here?
“I don’t know. I went to fish my key out of my pocket and all of a sudden, a searing burning pain!”
“Calm down, Aiko. Let me see it.”
I hold up my hand. I don’t know what she’s gonna see or anything.
“There’s a bump.”
What.
“Then that means…”
Oh god no.
“Come inside, Aiko. This is serious.”
I do what I’m told, afraid of what’s about to happen. She closes and locks the door behind me.
“Trust me, Aiko?”
“Of course.”
“I need you to take off your skirt.”
“What?”
“Take it off. Whatever the problem is, it’s in your pocket.”
“But…”
She goes into her dresser and fishes something out.
“Here, a towel to cover with. Don’t worry, I won’t look.”
“I mean, really!”
“I wouldn’t ask this if I didn’t feel it was necessary.”
I try to give her a pleading look, but to no avail. Hers is the face of a stone wall.
“Fine. Look away.”
“Alright.”
She turns her back as I put my things on her bed and pick up the towel, quickly dropping my skirt to the floor and wrapping up.
“Is it ok yet?”
“Yes.”
“Ok, pick up the skirt by the hem and GENTLY SHAKE IT.”
As if I could mess this u-OH MY GOD!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
“What is—OH MY GOD!”
A giant spider falls onto the floor, as scared of his surroundings, namely two screaming teen girls, as they are of him.
“KILLITKILLITKILLIT!”
“No, we need to save it and get you to the nurse!”
“N-urse?”
Before I can finish my sentence, Tanaka has the spider scooped up in a sealed jar as she grabs me by the wrist that isn’t clutching a stranger’s towel. The entirety of the campus stares at me, perhaps trying to spy underneath the towel as we make our way to the nurse’s office on the slowest run of my life. Tanaka-chan panickingly pounds on the door.
“I’m with a student!”
“NURSE! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!”
I can hear that young man sigh as the door peeks open. His eyes come face to face with the spider, still trapped in the jar.
“Why did you bring me a spider, Ritsu?”
“Because it bit Aiko Amaya, the new girl.”
His eyes grow as wide as saucers as he turns to me, blushing as red as my hair.
“Take her to the spare exam room and leave the spider on the shelf. I’ll be with her in a moment.”
Great. My first 3 hours at school and I’m about to die.
