  1. Gathering his bearings, Lum faces to the north and presses a length of chalk against
  2. the floor. In one deliberate movement, he traces a clockwise circle until it is
  3. complete, and stands up again.
  4.
  5. Solemnly undoing the clasps and buckles of his armour, Lum takes a few moments to
  6. remove it entirely and places it in the centre of the circle, the gebu and gebo runes
  7. on the breast facing upwards.
  8.
  9. He continues to draw his rapiers, and places them besides his armour in the centre of
  10. the circle, the left pointing towards the north, the right towards the south.
  11. Lum retrieves a sturdy runing stick strapped to his thigh by two loops and takes a
  12. firm grip.
  13.
  14. Lum says with a faint Theran accent, "Warlocks, thank you for joining me in my ritual.
  15. My purpose and process are simple, but no less meaningful: On this day, I wish to
  16. herald winter, and request the blessing of Whiirh."
  17.
  18. As he talks, Lum traces the circle clockwise, applying a good measure of gold ink to
  19. his stick. He sketches a continuous chain over the chalk circle, the gebo rune.
  20.
  21. Lum says with a faint Theran accent, "Winter denotes the death of some, and beginnings
  22. for others. It creeps, stalks across the land, as a silent predator, encompassing all."
  23.
  24. Dipping his runing stick in more gold ink, he sketches four shields between each of
  25. the cardinal points of the cricle.
  26.
  27. Lum says with a faint Theran accent, "However, it can also be explosive, instant and
  28. violent, a raucous blizzard tearing through the lands."
  29.
  30. Stepping towards the north of the circle, Lum sketches a flurry of lightning bolts
  31. within it, the isaz rune. "The storm is coming," he says, causing the air to crackle
  32. faintly. "I call upon thee, Air, to cleanse this place."
  33.
  34. Continuing clockwise to the east of the circle, Lum sketches a volcano within it, the
  35. thurisaz rune. "The flames breathe and devour," he says, and the etched lines slowly
  36. fill with vibrant lava. "I call upon thee, Fire, to cleanse this place."
  37.
  38. Continuing clockwise to the south of the circle, Lum sketches a rising sun within it,
  39. the dagaz rune. "The seas reflect our souls," he says, making the rune glow warmly.
  40. "I call upon thee, Water, to cleanse this place."
  41.
  42. Finally stepping towards the west of the circle, Lum sketches a mountain range within
  43. it, the othala rune. "Yet the world endures," he says, and the ground rumbles softly.
  44. "I call upon thee, Earth, to cleanse this place."
  45.
  46. Lum says with a faint Theran accent, "As Winter dawns, with subterfuge or violence,
  47. so must we all adapt. Animals, trees, our private rituals, Winter does not give way
  48. to us- we give way to it."
  49.
  50. Applying blue ink to his runing stick, Lum sketches a large ball of ice around his
  51. arms and armour, the hugalaz rune, and finishes it with a flourish. The air grows
  52. crisp and sharp, a frosty wind emanating from it.
  53.
  54. Lum swiftly connects the chain and shield of his armour to the hugalaz on the ground,
  55. mingling the inks, containing the power of the latter rune.
  56.
  57. Lum watches as ice crystals catalyse and spread over his armour and weapons, giving
  58. it a dull, frosty sheen. After a moment, he grasps the hilts of his rapiers and lifts
  59. them from the floor, seemingly requiring some effort and causing the chain of the
  60. gebo rune to glow slightly.
  61.
  62. He agilely twists the blades in upright circles besides him, completing the circle
  63. with a violent double-slash towards the ground. A keening scrape denotes that just the
  64. very tips of his weapons raked across his armour, breaking the chain and shield
  65. symbols on it.
  66.
  67. Lum watches as the runes seem to glow in a vibrant sheen before flashing out, now
  68. simple drawings on his armour. The hugalaz rune, now uncontained, explodes in a
  69. flurry of snow, ice and hail but recoils when it meets the unbroken chain that
  70. denotes the circle within which this all happens, mists coiling back inwards, making
  71. the circle somewhat reminiscent of the inside of a snowglobe.
  72.
  73. Lum says in a faint Theran accent, "As winter slowly creeps, so can it expand
  74. violently. What it takes and what it leaves standing depends on our ability to adapt."
  75.
  76. Lum says in a faint Theran accent, "As the gates are opened, I would like to invite
  77. those within the circle to chant after me."
  78.
  79. Lum chants in a deliberate voice, "Hail the Guardian of the East, Whiirh, I summon the
  80. powers of the Air!"
  81.
  82. <chant>
  83.
  84. Lum chants in a deliberate voice, "Windswept meadow, breath of life, fantastic torrent
  85. removing strife!"
  86.
  87. <chant>
  88.
  89. Lum chants in a deliberate voice, "With clarity, the power to Know, we invoke you!"
  90.
  91. <chant>
  92.
  93. As the icy mist settles, clinging eagerly to the floor, Lum gives a curt nod, and turns towards the suit of armour within the circle. He kneels and places his right hand upon it.
  94.
  95. Lum says in a faint Theran accent, "I offer this suit of full plate armour, a
  96. culmination my knowledge of forging, my effort in forging it, and my pride in having
  97. made it, resembling my intellect, my physical prowess and my ego."
  98.
  99. Wind whips about the circle, amalgamating around the suit of full plate lying upon the ground, which takes on a vibrant glow. At first a gentle zephyr, but soon a concentrated dervish of powerful winds rise up from it.
  100.
  101. Lum closes his eyes briefly, keeping his open palm on the breast of the armour. << asking to be blessed* by that mufugga here
  102.
  103. The metals and buckles of the armour rattle as the intense winds lash around it, before coming to a complete and utter halt, and for a moment, you can see the mist, dust and debris suspended in mid-air. A fraction of a second later, Whiirh disperses himself in a powerful gust of winds, pushing the cold mist to the outer edge of the circle before disappearing entirely.
  104.
  105. Lum says in a faint Theran accent, "We thank you, Whiirh, Guardian of the East."
  106.
  107. Lum rises to his feet, makes brief eye contact with those present, and then faces the west.
  108.
  109. "Water of the West, we release you," Lum says, and the dagaz rune dies out, and he faces the south.
  110.
  111. "Fire of the South, we release you," Lum says, and the thurisaz rune dies out, and he faces the east.
  112.
  113. "Wind of the East, we release you," Lum says, and the isaz rune dies out, and he faces the north.
  114.
  115. "Earth of the North, we release you," Lum says, and the othala rune dies out.
  116.
  117. Drawing his rapier one more time, Lum makes a quick strike at the circle, breaking the chain of the gebo rune. "And as we release the circle, the spirits leave with our thanks, and so do we end the ritual." he solemnly states.
  118.
  119. Lum says in a faint Theran accent, "Thank you all for having joined me today."
