  1. Before everyone goes off on a flame war, lets look at a few things first.
  2.
  3. I'll start off by saying that the fact people are saying it is too "dark" is such a good sign. There are so many people on the internet now, with such processing power, that anyone who has expertise in a subject can use that to help the whole. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
  4.
  5. Lets ask some questions:
  6. 1: Why did Ms. Mcphee post an image about using EBT and cutting coke, with nothing else. There is no source, and it is not with an article. There is no journalism here, just sensationalism.
  7.
  8. 2. Since it is sensationalism the image appears to want to cause more of a divice between the haves, and the have nots. Those who work get mad at those who use EBT, those who use EBT wish they had a job (not all in either group).
  9.
  10. 3. If you study the image you will notice that the substance is actually Heroin Hydrochloride, or diacetyl-morphine. Not cocaine, not crack cocaine. It is rock heroin. If you are going to sensationalize a story about drugs, and ebt, at least give the correct caption to your picture.
  11.
  12. 4. Ms. Mcphee works for the Herald, in Boston. She certainly knows that Massachusetts has a lot of drugs. However, the North Shore of Massachusetts is riddled with heroin. Extremely powerful, rock form, with a high opiod %. So what you ask? Nothing, except for the price. Heroin has become and upper class, middle class North Shore Massachusetts problem. Could it be possible that Ms. Mcphee delibertly labeled her picture as cocaine, and not heroin because cocaine is seen as an inner city "black" problem, as well as the stigma of blacks, and ebt cards.
  13.
  14. 5. How do you know the backstory of what happened in that photograph? Perhaps someone allowed someone else to use their card to make out lines? Maybe it's an old ebt card, they got a job, and use that money to buy drugs, again with their own money.
  15.
  16. Ms. Mcphee, please forgive me if you believe I have attacked your personally, however, I see no journalisic ethics or integrity within this post. I'm going to copy this to a blog article, and edit it. I'm going to send it to your office, and I would like a respond, preferably from you.
  17.
  18. In addition, I would be happy to debate you on any of the points I raised, if you would so accept the challenge.
