  1. >Day Happy Trails in Equestria.
  2. >You are Musical Anon.
  3. >Currently, leaving P0nyville...for good.
  4. >With a simple bag of what meager belongings you owned, you were slowly walking through town, the hot afternoon sun beating down on you.
  5. >It's been a long time since you were dropped in this place, left with nothing but your voice to make ends meet.
  6. >P0nies thought your songs were unique and took great interest in them.
  7. >Soon it became what you were known for, a musician that required no instrument.
  8. >You thought you could start a new life here, but sadly you were mistaken.
  9. >Fluttershy, one of the legendary "Elements of Harmony", had taken a sick interest in you.
  10. >It soon became routine for her to torture both your body and soul on a daily basis.
  11. >Her lust for you knew no bounds, and no matter who you pleaded to for help, it all fell on deaf ears.
  12. >No one would trust a world weary traveler over a home grown hero.
  13. >You tried to cope with it, but as the months passed it became abundantly clear that things were not going to change.
  14. >The only thing that had kept you from leaving was the fear of an unknown world.
  15. >You wouldn't step one foot away from the safety of civilization.
  16. >Eventually, you came to terms with your situation, even making friends with the some of the townsfolk once you had learned to keep quiet.
  17. >They weren't real friends though, they were friends with the hollowed out version of you, the one that sang songs and nothing more.
  18. >Out of the entire village, there was a single mare you felt you had the strength to trust.
  19. >A simple mare by the name of Applejack.
  20. >She never took much interest in your songs, was always too busy with farm work she'd say.
  21. >But even though she didn't know you well, she still treated you like family.
  22. >Maybe that's why you'd grown to like her so much.
  23. >She didn't treat you like you were something special, just another friend among friends.
  24. >You remember the days you'd spend lazily sitting under apple trees, watching her do her work.
  25. >The times she'd jokingly scare the shit out of you by waking you up with a swift kick to the tree you had chosen to nap under.
  26. >...And the rare afternoon she'd sleep on the cool grass next to you instead.
  27. >But your idle thoughts of happiness were burned away by the image of a yellow mare's face.
  28. >Visions of her trying to be subtle, followed by days of her knocking on your door, ended with the times she's forced herself upon you.
  29. >Stumbling for a bit in the middle of your walk, you pinch your fingers between your eyes as you try to get your bearings after having been forcibly removed from your daydream.
  30. >Letting out a sigh, you look down the blank dusty road ahead of you.
  31. No matter where I go, she's still going to haunt me isn't she?
  32. >Reminiscing on unpleasant thoughts, you don't notice as someone's voice creeps up behind you.
  33. >"Who haunts what now?"
  34. >Startled by the sudden voice, you turned to see Applejack sitting under a tree, tuning a simple acoustic guitar.
  35. >Looking around, you let out a meager sigh, seems your daydreams led you to Sweet Apple Acres.
  36. >This was quite the detour, and you didn't want anyone to know you were leaving, but maybe she could be the exception.
  37. >Walking over to where the orange mare was sitting, you set your bag down and took the spot beside her.
  38. How are you AJ, don't you usually have work till the evening?
  39. >She looks at you and shrugs.
  40. >"Ol' Macintosh got himself hurt doin' something stupid again, so now we're taking the rest of the day off."
  41. >She lets out a bored yawn and tunes her guitar a bit more, a familiar twang is heard each time she tests it.
  42. >Looking over her shoulder, you stare at her instrument.
  43. That's quite the guitar you have there AJ, I thought you didn't like music?
  44. >Giving you a queer look for a moment, she playfully smacks you in the shoulder.
  45. >"Now Anon I ain't never said I don't like music, I'm just too busy taking care of the family is all, you know how it is."
  46. >For a split second you wish to remind her that you have no family anymore, but you swallow the words down before they manage to escape.
  47. >As she looks down at her guitar, she blushes a faint bit.
  48. >"Frankly, I've been meaning to take a listen to one of yer fancy songs for a while now."
  49. >Her smile grows bigger as she starts strumming a few happy notes.
  50. >"I hear ya'll are real good and all."
  51. >You felt a pain in your chest grow, begging you to not to say what you were about to.
  52. >But no matter what, you couldn't turn back now.
  53. I'm afraid I don't think you'll have the chance AJ...
  54. >Confused, she looks up at you with a worried expression while absentmindedly still adjusting her strings.
  55. ...I'm leaving today.
  56. >A loud and painful *TWANG* resonates in the air as Applejack accidentally plucks a full cord in the wrong direction from shock.
  57. >"Leavin'...what do ya mean leavin'?"
  58. >Shaking your head weakly from side to side, you look up at the blue sky.
  59. Today's my last day here AJ, I'm moving on and never coming back.
  60. >You suddenly felt a light tug on your shirt and knew she was holding onto you.
  61. >She tried not to show it, but you could tell her grip was shaking without even looking.
  62. >"But...but why Sug'?"
  63. >Settling your gaze on the open orchard in front of you, you bitterly smile at how serene the scenery is.
  64. >Picking up a fallen apple, you look at it and quietly sigh.
  65. >Maybe it was finally time to tell her the truth.
  66. I'm leaving...because every day Fluttershy is slowly killing my will to live.
  67. >As the silence settles in, you don't have the nerve to look her in the eye, you couldn't even bring yourself to look at her face to face to gauge her reaction.
  68. >Feeling her grip on your shirt getting tighter, all you could do is wait for her reply.
  69. >Before you could even react, you felt her answer come to you in the form of a swift blow to your face.
  70. >The force was so strong your body was immediately laid out on the ground next to you.
  71. >This was probably the first and last time you'd ever feel that kind of brutal honesty from someone.
  72. >Wincing from the pain as you touched your cheek, you looked up to see AJ looking at you with disappointment in her eyes.
  73. >With a sigh, she leans over and offers you a hoof to pull yourself back up.
  74. >"Now Sug'...Fluttershy is a sweet little thing that wouldn't hurt a fly."
  75. >Despite the situation, for some reason you chuckled.
  76. >No matter how much your face hurt, you couldn't help but let out a breath of relief.
  77. >Getting that baggage off your mind had more than made up for it.
  78. >Pushing yourself back up with your free hand, you smiled and rubbed your sore cheek.
  79. Sorry AJ, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
  80. >Relaxing, she looks up at you with a somewhat calm expression.
  81. >"It ain't mah feelings that you're hurting Sug', maybe save the apologies for poor Fluttershy."
  82. >Standing upright again, you wipe the fresh dirt off from the back of your pants.
  83. >You show her a smile, surprisingly calm about the whole situation.
  84. Sorry, I just wanted to tell you why I'm leaving, whether you think my reasoning is sound or not is all up to you.
  85. >You watch as the words ring a cord with her, hints of confusion clouding her eyes.
  86. >Bending down, you pick up your sack of belongings and sling it over your shoulder.
  87. >Refusing to look you in the eye, she doesn't say anything as she begins to lose herself in thought.
  88. Truth is, I wish I could stay, the world is a scary place and I'm no adventurer.
  89. >Raising a hand over your eyes to protect them from the sun, you stare off into the distance.
  90. Who knows what this place will bring to me...
  91. >As your voice trails off, you notice a faint grumble from beside you even though her face is turned away.
  92. >"...Then why don't ya stay?"
  93. >Looking at her well toned physique, you whisper out your answer, quietly but sternly.
  94. ...Because I can't.
  95. >You see her body quiver for a moment before you're left in silence again.
  96. >It might be about that time you've overstayed your welcome, but one last thing nags on your mind.
  97. AJ, can I ask you to do something for me?
  98. >She looks back at you, curious but not giving you an actual answer.
  99. Can...can you play a tune for me?
  100. >Her brow skews queerly as she looks at you with a mixture of confused annoyance.
  101. >"What fer?"
  102. >Taking your hand away from your sore cheek, you cup her face in your palm and rub your thumb along her freckled cheek instead.
  103. >You didn't know if you were overstepping your bounds, but it felt right.
  104. So you can listen to the last song I'll ever sing in P0nyville.
  105. >Her eyes grow wide at the word "last", her bitter expression faltering.
  106. >She opens her mouth to say something, most likely to protest, but nothing comes out.
  107. >Biting her lip in sad frustration, she picks up her guitar and starts playing a simple tune.
  108. >Closing your eyes and listening to the rhythm, you smile and tap a finger in the air to the beat.
  109. Yes, that will do nicely.
  110. >Lightly nodding your head, you begin clapping your hands to the rhythm.
  111. I think I shall call this..."An Ode to Honesty".

  114.
  115. So used to taking it that...
  116. ...she won't let it end.
  117. And I've wrote two hundred letters,
  118. Twi will never send.
  119. Sometimes this smut is so much...steeper than it seems.
  120. Each time it's covered up,
  121. I tried my best to scream.
  122. I beg and plea,
  123. But they won't help me...
  124.
  125. I am a my~stery.
  126. There ain't nobody...who is quite like me.
  127. Why won't they believe me?
  128. Her violence is slowly killing me. (oh)
  129.
  130. Mare, she really got me bad.
  131. Took all I ever haaaad~
  132. Tiiime to get life on track,
  133. I'm never coming baaack~.
  134.
  135. This faulty truth of mine,
  136. It mixes up my mind.
  137. Each day it seems to be,
  138. Discreetly misaligned.
  139. Not cause' I didn't share,
  140. I told them long ago.
  141. It's not that I couldn't kneel,
  142. It's all my hidden woe.
  143. I'd beg and plea,
  144. but they won't help me...
  145.
  146. I am a my~stery.
  147. And there ain't nobody... who is quite like me (Oh yeah)
  148. Why won't they believe me?
  149. Her violence is slowly killing me (Oh~)
  150.
  151. Mare, she really got me bad.
  152. Took all I ever haaaad~
  153. Tiiime to get life on track,
  154. I'm never coming baaack~.
  155.
  156. I'd say my faith was taken,
  157. I felt my heart was breakin',
  158. Each night I'd cryyy and shake... praying it was done.
  159. So desperate and confused,
  160. From every day's abuse,
  161. A silent prayer, because I swear she hasn't won.
  162.
  163. Why does she do what she does to me?
  164. Why won't they believe me, believe me?
  165. What did I do to bring this on me?
  166. I don't think anything's left for me, yeah...
  167.
  168. I am...a my~stery.
  169. There ain't nobody who is quite like me. (yeah)
  170. Why won't they believe me?
  171. Her violence is slowly killing me. (Oh yeah!)
  172.
  173. Mare, she really got me bad.
  174. Took all I ever haaaad~
  175. Tiiime to get life on track,
  176. I'm never coming baaack~. (yeah)
  177.
  178. Mare, she really got me bad.
  179. Took all I ever haaaad~
  180. Tiiime to get life on track,
  181. I'm never coming baaack~. (YEAH)
  182.
  183. Yeahhhhh yeahhhhh OH!
  184. ...No oh oh oh ohhhh.
  185. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeahhh.
  186. Yeahhhh...OHHHH!
  187.
  188. >As your voice starts to trail off, the sun starts setting in the distance.
  189. >Standing up straight, you continue to mumble out lyrics as you start walking down the dirt trail, ready to take on the unknown.
  190. >But before you can make it over the horizon, you feel a tug on your pant leg.
  191. >A small orange hoof is holding onto you weakly.
  192. >Craning your neck behind you, you see Applejack with her guitar strapped to her back.
  193. >Her eyes couldn't meet yours, instead focused on the ground beside her.
  194. >"Please don't go Sugar..."
  195. >You could see the ground becoming damp from tears.
  196. >"I believe ya."
  197. >Kneeling down, you wrap your arms around her neck and hug her close.
  198. I know ya do AJ.
  199. >Standing back up, you commandeer her stetson and take it for your own.
  200. ...Thanks.
  201. >Turning around, you tip the brim down to cover your eyes and start walking into the orange light.
  202. >You didn't want her to see you cry.
  203. >Quietly, you begin singing to yourself, your voice becoming more slow and monotone with each step.
  204. I...am...a...myyystery~
  205. And there ain't nobody...
  206. >Looking back you see AJ sniffling and wiping tears from her eyes.
  207. ...who is quite like me.
