  1. As a POC ally, and progressive activist I am appalled at the level of complete disregard, or in general lack of respect or understanding with the character creation in this game. While I fully support diversity in games, and hope to see more asian titles expand it I am appalled by two predominantly disturbing trends that have continued into Revelation Online. While I am sure many of you may disagree, please, put your traditional, and typically sexist/racist tendencies aside, and hear out my case as to what changes need to be made for Revelation Online to become a inclusive game, so that all may enjoy it.
  2.
  3. 1. Binary genders
  4.
  5. At first I was excited, I can choose my gender and my body type, however my excitement quickly turned to disappointment, with the all too usual binary gender options
  6. however there were only two, and those were male and female.
  7. This is extremely problematic and offensive to the trans and non binary community. It's 2017 ,Gender is not binary, it is a spectrum and it is ever changing. I hope that My.com will realize this and make accommodations for people who don't fall into CISheteronormative genders.
  8.
  9. 2. POC completely marginalized
  10. Really my.com? this is the darkest I can be?
  11.
  12.
  13. not only does this do a disservice to POC, but it completel disenfranchises them from playing the game, due to inaccurate representation. To often does this happen in white/asian dominated games, however POC play video games too, but are being pushed away from the medium by a lack of accommodations and accurate representation. I planned on making a Leslie Jones look a like vanguard, however with the current options , it is impossible to play as my hero and spirit animal in game.
  14.
  15. 3. Body shaming. There is no options for big boned people. It's 2017, fat shaming needs to end, and games need to reflect people accurately. As a 300 pound male myself, I understand the dangers of body shaming, and not allowing us to create large characters is an absolute nightmare for many, and the many other heavyweightkin who cannot truly express themselves through the medium.
  16.
  17. In conclusion, the character creation options are exclusive, mean spirited, and a total turn off for Muslims, Jews, POC, LGBTQIAPB, and weight challenged individuals.
  18. If these issues are not fixed come launch, I do not foresee our communities or allys playing or supporting this game for very long.
  19.
  20. To rectify these issues, I suggest that My.com make the following changes
  21.
  22. 1. Allow the creation of non binary characters, including anytime gender swapping, and the full selection of 58 currently recognized genders.
  23. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/02/heres-a-list-of-58-gender-options-for-facebook-users/
  24.
  25. 2. Full Skin customization and facial features, that accurately reflect people of color, as well as compensation to all those POC who were disenfranchised by the poor and weak effort-ed attempt to include them through, slightly less white characters, rather than a full range of colors that reflect the beauty and style. POC are on par and prehaps better looking than whites or asians, and this should be reflected in the creation menu.
  26.
  27. 3. Finally, full size weight sliders, and realistic body size. The elimination of harmful western idealized woman/man should be removed, no big abs, no ridiculous breasts and skinny features, but replaced with a realistic representation of humans, as to not further damage the psych of young persons and adults with this toxic and unrealistic vision of beauty.
  28.
  29. If there is zero attempt at making these changes, I foresee this game failing upon launch, it will be unavoidable.
