- Four Corners on Nordau Street. (Enorian.) (4232)
- The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. Bearing
- a blue and yellow flag, a large flagpole stands here as a testament to the
- indomitable will of the Beacon of Light. A seedling of the ancient Heartwood
- blooms from the earth here. A wooden stake has been left here. A pike with the
- decapitated head of Jaffrem has been erected here. Atop a gilded lamp post, a
- merry flicker of flame lends light to the surroundings. A perfectly pristine
- mirror set within its palm, an enormous marble hand rises from the ground here.
- A rounded bench rests nearby, low to the ground. A grook peddler stands here,
- situated beside his ramshackle pushcart. There are 2 plain grey packs here.
- There are 2 monolith sigils here. A blue and gold chest sits here, carved with
- helpful novice tips. A small sign points into a market stall. The blue and gold
- flag of Enorian flaps proudly in the breeze here. A stout donkey stands
- patiently by, waiting for a burden. There are 3 peacemakers of Enorian here.
- There are 2 argent intercessors here. There are 4 bright-eyed missionaries here.
- Tossing her august mane, a sprightly white mare stands here. With flared
- nostrils and wild eyes, a roan brumby stallion gallops about here. There are 4
- rations in 4 stacks here. Wreathed in ethereal flame, a fiery-hued alaecorn
- stands silent sentinel here. Lord Protector, Brother Dato Deschaine, Golden
- Dragon is here, shrouded. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate is here. Sir
- Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose is here. He wields a menacing flail in his left hand
- and a menacing flail in his right. Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich is here. Nola,
- Oracle of Truth is here. She wields an eye sigil in her left hand.
- Exits: north, northeast, east (open pine door), southeast (open pine door),
- south (open pine door), southwest (open pine door), west, and in.
- Dato presses the open palm of his left hand against the clenched fist of his
- right and bows respectfully to Taygeta.
- You have emoted: Gentle echoes the motion a bit clumsily, bowing to Taygeta.
- Taygeta raises an eyebrow at you.
- Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate asks you, "What do you want?"
- You have emoted: Chuckling, Gentle says, "Do most people who greet you want
- something?"
- Daingean clicks his tongue quietly before he turns his head slightly to face you
- and says flatly, "I would advise you to be more selective as to your choice in
- company, Mister Gentle. It is beneath a citizen of the Beacon to socialize with
- our enemies, especially those whose very existence is in opposition of the Light."
- You have emoted: Gentle glances around in bewilderment at the assembled
- individuals. "I'll keep that in mind," he says blandly.
- Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich, "Citizens
- of the Beacon should hold themselves to a higher standard. We are a Beacon of
- Light, afterall."
- Nola's eyes narrow into thin slits as she remarks cooly, "Better do more than
- that."
- Taygeta lips pressed into a thin frown,) snorts softly, a fiery gaze cast at you.
- "You know, if you cannot, it would probably be best for you to leave now and.
- Taygeta coughs softly.
- Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says, "And go run off to join them."
- You say, "Cannot what, miss?"
- Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says to you, "Use your brain."
- Daingean's candle flame pupils flare slightly, though his tone remains unchanged
- as he says, "A final warning, Mister Gentle. You've been spoken to by members of
- your guild, and now, the City Council. The company one chooses speaks volumes to
- their own character, and yours seems poor indeed. Make the right choice, or you
- will not be welcome within the Beacon."
- You have emoted: Finding this response quite free of data, Gentle shrugs and
- takes a seat on a nearby bench. "If you like, sir. I'll make sure to adhere to
- all the laws of my guild and the Beacon to the absolute letter."
- Looking unconvinced, Nola seems entirely unimpressed, her expression one of
- doubt and dismay.
- Daingean's lips twitch in a grim smile before he says, "Simply put, Mister
- Gentle. The next time you are found to be socializing with an enemy to our city,
- you will be treated as one. As Sir Saradin said - a higher standard is expected.
- As the obvious seems hidden from you, twice, the decision has been made to speak
- with you, rather than removing you. A third time is three more than most would
- receive."
- You have emoted: Gentle blinks mildly. "Is there a law I have violated, sir? I
- beg you to inform me of it, and I will put my conduct right at once."
- You say, "I wish only to be a law-abiding citizen, after all."
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "You're pushing your luck here - law or no law,
- common sense should be enough, which it seems you are lacking in. What you do is
- against our very beliefs as a city - what we stand for - and by acting in such a
- way that contradicts and goes against what makes us Enorianites, it begins to
- mark you as -not- an Enorianite."
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "If you can't understand, or if you wish to continue
- to act like a smart alec, your time will be shorter still, here."
- Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich says, "To quote the laws - 'A crime is any action
- against the City, its allies, or its citizens that causes deprivation or harm,
- be it of things physical, spiritual, or mental. The Council retains the final
- say as to what compromises a crime.' - The Council has decreed your behavior is
- not in keeping with the spiritual or ideological nature of Enorian. You will
- change your ways, or you will be removed."
- Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says to you, "In simpler terms, you
- spit in the face of the cause you claim to uphold by being a citizen. You are
- naught more than a hypocrite who serves only himself."
- You say, "It takes all kinds to make a world, as I'm sure all can agree. There
- are certainly limitations that a city cannot accept among a peaceful and
- committed citizenry... and I would imagine that those things would be outlined
- in detail in the laws. If the city chooses to rest upon a loose clause that
- allows them to declare any action a crime, at the whim of the council... what
- can one possibly conclude except that tyranny is alive and well?"
- You say, "I have only ever heard of such loose morals and edicts in dissolute
- cities as Bloodloch."
- You smile and say, "But then, I do not believe even they consider smart-assery a
- crime."
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says to you, "The line you're walking is getting shorter
- by the second - am I to presume that you want us to remove you? I've seen your
- type before. You think its all a joke, and so you have your fun, making trouble
- and then saying, 'well, its not in the Law, so I'm not doing anything wrong'.
- Knowing full well what the problem is."
- You say, "Why would you not then make a law, miss, if you wish it to be
- so?"
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Our Faith is not determined solely by Law. You take
- away the structure that it provides, and yet what we stand for as a city remains."
- Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to you, "Because the laws of common sense are
- not written upon paper, they are embedded in people...some obviously less than
- others."
- Daingean nods his head at Saradin.
- Taygeta crosses her arms over her chest, fingers digging into the cloth over her
- arms as her lips thin and her eyes flare in anger. Golden essence swirls and
- churns about her, at times obscuring her form, and others scarcely there. Her
- jaw is set into a firm line, her lips turned downward ever so slightly into a
- distasteful frown.
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Your actions are against the Spirit of the Law as a
- whole, because the Law is instituted for the sake of what the City stands for,
- which is the Light, which isn't decreed by written words, but as Saradin says.
- Within the people, it is."
- You say, "Clearly what you would have as common sense is not self-evident to
- your citizenry... which is perfectly acceptable, if the council is not
- determined to police every single moment of the citizenry's life. But if you
- wish to dictate whom a citizen may speak to, why would one not make a law
- against the offending individuals? I still have no answer to this."
- You say, "To claim 'we should not have to make such a law' is obtuse. Clearly...
- you do have to."
- Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Or, clearly, you can not listen to a number of
- people telling you, having been here for so long - what did you expect of a city
- that stands against those enemies, that we would chastise you and condemn you
- for making friends with what we fight against?"
- Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to you, "What do you value in your
- friends?"
- Daingean shakes his head and says, "You are the first in my entire time as a
- citizen to pretend that this notion is somehow alien to you. If we made laws
- because of every single person who found something missing, the document would
- be longer than the length of our walls."
- Nola murmurs something softly to Daingean.
- You say, "Would you have the Beacon known as one who throws out citizens on a
- whim and a prayer? One that does not feel the need to outline its desires to
- its citizens, but rather is eager to make the laws vague so it may punish any
- action that a moment's whim deems irritating? I would think this city, more
- than any other, would be committed to adhering to the statutes it has set down
- for itself."
- You say, "But I still have no answer to my question."
- You say, "If you wish citizens to curtail their acquaintances to your preference,
- why... have... you... no... law?"
- Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich says, "The very purpose of the Beacon should make
- this obvious. This is the final word, Mister Gentle. You will choose your
- company more carefully, or you will be removed."
- Daingean inclines his head politely to those around him.
- Daingean glances briefly northeastwards and dashes off into the distance.
- You have emoted: Gentle spreads his hands across the back of the bench and folds
- his legs. "Ah, politicians. The same in every age."
- Watching after Daingean for a brief moment, Nola begins to pointedly ignore you,
- finding something else to occupy her time with.
