  1. Four Corners on Nordau Street. (Enorian.) (4232)
  2. The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. Bearing
  3. a blue and yellow flag, a large flagpole stands here as a testament to the
  4. indomitable will of the Beacon of Light. A seedling of the ancient Heartwood
  5. blooms from the earth here. A wooden stake has been left here. A pike with the
  6. decapitated head of Jaffrem has been erected here. Atop a gilded lamp post, a
  7. merry flicker of flame lends light to the surroundings. A perfectly pristine
  8. mirror set within its palm, an enormous marble hand rises from the ground here.
  9. A rounded bench rests nearby, low to the ground. A grook peddler stands here,
  10. situated beside his ramshackle pushcart. There are 2 plain grey packs here.
  11. There are 2 monolith sigils here. A blue and gold chest sits here, carved with
  12. helpful novice tips. A small sign points into a market stall. The blue and gold
  13. flag of Enorian flaps proudly in the breeze here. A stout donkey stands
  14. patiently by, waiting for a burden. There are 3 peacemakers of Enorian here.
  15. There are 2 argent intercessors here. There are 4 bright-eyed missionaries here.
  16. Tossing her august mane, a sprightly white mare stands here. With flared
  17. nostrils and wild eyes, a roan brumby stallion gallops about here. There are 4
  18. rations in 4 stacks here. Wreathed in ethereal flame, a fiery-hued alaecorn
  19. stands silent sentinel here. Lord Protector, Brother Dato Deschaine, Golden
  20. Dragon is here, shrouded. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate is here. Sir
  21. Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose is here. He wields a menacing flail in his left hand
  22. and a menacing flail in his right. Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich is here. Nola,
  23. Oracle of Truth is here. She wields an eye sigil in her left hand.
  24. Exits: north, northeast, east (open pine door), southeast (open pine door),
  25. south (open pine door), southwest (open pine door), west, and in.
  26.
  27. Dato presses the open palm of his left hand against the clenched fist of his
  28. right and bows respectfully to Taygeta.
  29.
  30. You have emoted: Gentle echoes the motion a bit clumsily, bowing to Taygeta.
  31.
  32. Taygeta raises an eyebrow at you.
  33.
  34. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate asks you, "What do you want?"
  35.
  36. You have emoted: Chuckling, Gentle says, "Do most people who greet you want
  37. something?"
  38.
  39. Daingean clicks his tongue quietly before he turns his head slightly to face you
  40. and says flatly, "I would advise you to be more selective as to your choice in
  41. company, Mister Gentle. It is beneath a citizen of the Beacon to socialize with
  42. our enemies, especially those whose very existence is in opposition of the Light."
  43.
  44. You have emoted: Gentle glances around in bewilderment at the assembled
  45. individuals. "I'll keep that in mind," he says blandly.
  46.
  47. Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich, "Citizens
  48. of the Beacon should hold themselves to a higher standard. We are a Beacon of
  49. Light, afterall."
  50.
  51. Nola's eyes narrow into thin slits as she remarks cooly, "Better do more than
  52. that."
  53.
  54. Taygeta lips pressed into a thin frown,) snorts softly, a fiery gaze cast at you.
  55. "You know, if you cannot, it would probably be best for you to leave now and.
  56.
  57. Taygeta coughs softly.
  58.
  59. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says, "And go run off to join them."
  60.
  61. You say, "Cannot what, miss?"
  62.
  63. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says to you, "Use your brain."
  64.
  65. Daingean's candle flame pupils flare slightly, though his tone remains unchanged
  66. as he says, "A final warning, Mister Gentle. You've been spoken to by members of
  67. your guild, and now, the City Council. The company one chooses speaks volumes to
  68. their own character, and yours seems poor indeed. Make the right choice, or you
  69. will not be welcome within the Beacon."
  70.
  71. You have emoted: Finding this response quite free of data, Gentle shrugs and
  72. takes a seat on a nearby bench. "If you like, sir. I'll make sure to adhere to
  73. all the laws of my guild and the Beacon to the absolute letter."
  74.
  75. Looking unconvinced, Nola seems entirely unimpressed, her expression one of
  76. doubt and dismay.
  77.
  78. Daingean's lips twitch in a grim smile before he says, "Simply put, Mister
  79. Gentle. The next time you are found to be socializing with an enemy to our city,
  80. you will be treated as one. As Sir Saradin said - a higher standard is expected.
  81. As the obvious seems hidden from you, twice, the decision has been made to speak
  82. with you, rather than removing you. A third time is three more than most would
  83. receive."
  84.
  85. You have emoted: Gentle blinks mildly. "Is there a law I have violated, sir? I
  86. beg you to inform me of it, and I will put my conduct right at once."
  87.
  88. You say, "I wish only to be a law-abiding citizen, after all."
  89.
  90. Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "You're pushing your luck here - law or no law,
  91. common sense should be enough, which it seems you are lacking in. What you do is
  92. against our very beliefs as a city - what we stand for - and by acting in such a
  93. way that contradicts and goes against what makes us Enorianites, it begins to
  94. mark you as -not- an Enorianite."
  95.
  96. Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "If you can't understand, or if you wish to continue
  97. to act like a smart alec, your time will be shorter still, here."
  98.
  99. Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich says, "To quote the laws - 'A crime is any action
  100. against the City, its allies, or its citizens that causes deprivation or harm,
  101. be it of things physical, spiritual, or mental. The Council retains the final
  102. say as to what compromises a crime.' - The Council has decreed your behavior is
  103. not in keeping with the spiritual or ideological nature of Enorian. You will
  104. change your ways, or you will be removed."
  105.
  106. Zealot Taygeta Fiadhaich, Light's Curate says to you, "In simpler terms, you
  107. spit in the face of the cause you claim to uphold by being a citizen. You are
  108. naught more than a hypocrite who serves only himself."
  109.
  110. You say, "It takes all kinds to make a world, as I'm sure all can agree. There
  111. are certainly limitations that a city cannot accept among a peaceful and
  112. committed citizenry... and I would imagine that those things would be outlined
  113. in detail in the laws. If the city chooses to rest upon a loose clause that
  114. allows them to declare any action a crime, at the whim of the council... what
  115. can one possibly conclude except that tyranny is alive and well?"
  116.
  117. You say, "I have only ever heard of such loose morals and edicts in dissolute
  118. cities as Bloodloch."
  119.
  120. You smile and say, "But then, I do not believe even they consider smart-assery a
  121. crime."
  122.
  123. Nola, Oracle of Truth says to you, "The line you're walking is getting shorter
  124. by the second - am I to presume that you want us to remove you? I've seen your
  125. type before. You think its all a joke, and so you have your fun, making trouble
  126. and then saying, 'well, its not in the Law, so I'm not doing anything wrong'.
  127. Knowing full well what the problem is."
  128.
  129. You say, "Why would you not then make a law, miss, if you wish it to be
  130. so?"
  131.
  132. Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Our Faith is not determined solely by Law. You take
  133. away the structure that it provides, and yet what we stand for as a city remains."
  134.
  135. Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to you, "Because the laws of common sense are
  136. not written upon paper, they are embedded in people...some obviously less than
  137. others."
  138.
  139. Daingean nods his head at Saradin.
  140.
  141. Taygeta crosses her arms over her chest, fingers digging into the cloth over her
  142. arms as her lips thin and her eyes flare in anger. Golden essence swirls and
  143. churns about her, at times obscuring her form, and others scarcely there. Her
  144. jaw is set into a firm line, her lips turned downward ever so slightly into a
  145. distasteful frown.
  146.
  147. Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Your actions are against the Spirit of the Law as a
  148. whole, because the Law is instituted for the sake of what the City stands for,
  149. which is the Light, which isn't decreed by written words, but as Saradin says.
  150. Within the people, it is."
  151.
  152. You say, "Clearly what you would have as common sense is not self-evident to
  153. your citizenry... which is perfectly acceptable, if the council is not
  154. determined to police every single moment of the citizenry's life. But if you
  155. wish to dictate whom a citizen may speak to, why would one not make a law
  156. against the offending individuals? I still have no answer to this."
  157.
  158. You say, "To claim 'we should not have to make such a law' is obtuse. Clearly...
  159. you do have to."
  160.
  161. Nola, Oracle of Truth says, "Or, clearly, you can not listen to a number of
  162. people telling you, having been here for so long - what did you expect of a city
  163. that stands against those enemies, that we would chastise you and condemn you
  164. for making friends with what we fight against?"
  165.
  166. Sir Saradin Mirari-Bloodrose says to you, "What do you value in your
  167. friends?"
  168.
  169. Daingean shakes his head and says, "You are the first in my entire time as a
  170. citizen to pretend that this notion is somehow alien to you. If we made laws
  171. because of every single person who found something missing, the document would
  172. be longer than the length of our walls."
  173.
  174. Nola murmurs something softly to Daingean.
  175.
  176. You say, "Would you have the Beacon known as one who throws out citizens on a
  177. whim and a prayer? One that does not feel the need to outline its desires to
  178. its citizens, but rather is eager to make the laws vague so it may punish any
  179. action that a moment's whim deems irritating? I would think this city, more
  180. than any other, would be committed to adhering to the statutes it has set down
  181. for itself."
  182.
  183. You say, "But I still have no answer to my question."
  184.
  185. You say, "If you wish citizens to curtail their acquaintances to your preference,
  186. why... have... you... no... law?"
  187.
  188. Grandmaster Daingean Fiadhaich says, "The very purpose of the Beacon should make
  189. this obvious. This is the final word, Mister Gentle. You will choose your
  190. company more carefully, or you will be removed."
  191.
  192. Daingean inclines his head politely to those around him.
  193.
  194. Daingean glances briefly northeastwards and dashes off into the distance.
  195.
  196. You have emoted: Gentle spreads his hands across the back of the bench and folds
  197. his legs. "Ah, politicians. The same in every age."
  198.
  199. Watching after Daingean for a brief moment, Nola begins to pointedly ignore you,
  200. finding something else to occupy her time with.
