  1. circuitry:
  2. -wireless transmitter circuit wasn't working right, I'm pretty sure that the transistors I was using switched too quickly for the circuit board's IC to detect/ handle so it was acting erratic whenever it switched states ie turning it on in the first place
  3. +figured out what the end result of the receiver using signals was and managed to recreate the same connections controlled by a light level on a photoresistor set to only work at high brightnesses ie a laser pointer is pointing at it
  4. +I connected the circuit to a long series of wires and (mostly) attached them together so they can be run as one line more or less not too conspicuously instead of using the wireless transmitter
  5. -I was unable to find the necessary components for an infrared trip laser circuit and even if I did it'd be a bitch to line up an invisible laser right on the photoresistor
  6. +the laser pointer I had worked great and I managed to swap out the hold only push button with an actual switch so I can leave it on without having to hold it at all times
  7. +I have a final design idea for the jackolantern's lights itself, all I need to do is swap the current 9V battery with a more efficient two AA battery holder
  8.
  9. mechanical:
  10. +the pumpkin is in decent enough shape, I filled some cracks with glue so it'd hold better, and the god getting inside seems to be no problem for the foam material it's made out of
  11. -I still don't know how I will line up the laser with the photoresistor accurately as well as not being painfully obvious so it will still surprise people
  12. -I don't know yet how I will position the fog machine upright so the pumpkin can rest on top of how I will hide it from sight yet
  13. +I have enough space to work with that even if I didn't make it too well hidden I can likely position it such that no one will be really bothered by it
  14. -it's been fun and I've learned quite a bit from this but damn it was like at least $50-$60 for the smoke machine and lights and all that shit, this better work next year so I can just pull it out and set it up
