- How I got rid of the BSOD in windows 7, don't know if this will work in xp or vista.
- !!!Use this at your own risk!!! !!!Be sure to create a system restore point!!!
- First, remove any program that emulates drives (daemon tools, virtual cd,..)
- and maybe even WinRar or 7zip,.... reboot pc and hope for the best!
- If your pc automaticly restarts, follow this step, if you have seen a BSOD,
- you can continue further on.
- First you have to make windows print a BSOD to find out the error later on.
- Go to control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery. Under system failure
- check first tickbox, uncheck automaticly restart and choose kernel memory dump.
- Now if you get an error, you will get a BSOD wich will tell you
- (*at this point, only if lucky* a filename and) an error code (0x 8 digits).
- I got 0x00000050, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA without a filename,
- the pc crashed but didn't know why. If you do see a filename in the BSOD,
- google that name and remove the owning program. Reboot and hope. If not...
- You could use 'whocrashed' to scan your dump file, mine only said something wrong with kernel,
- being none the wiser I had to search further. You might be luckier.
- Next step is to make the pc crash on purpose. Click Start and fill in verifier in the search box,
- select driver verifier manager with the blue checkmark in the icon.
- Choose create custom settings, next, select individual settings from a list,
- next, select all but low resource, next, select driver names from list, next,
- select all that is not from microsoft (clicking on provider sorts them by name) and finish.
- This will restart your computer and check those drivers for errors on startup.
- Your pc will crash while the desktop is showing up, but this time you will see a
- file name in the BSOD.
- Restart pc in safe mode with networking, research the file that crashed your pc
- and remove the program that owns that file. Restart and your pc should be BSOD free!
- I had an error with dtsoftbus01.sys, that file name showed up on top in the BSOD,
- linked it to daemon tools, uninstalled that and been BSOD free for over 24hrs now
- (even installed it again).
- If anything fails, restore your pc to the restore point you created.
- Hope this helps.
