  1. There are several reasons why it seems popular things are hated by many people. To understand why this is, we have to know the meaning of popular: to be popular is to be liked by many.
  2.
  3. I first thought if many people hate popular things than it isn't popular. It's infamous or they're lying. As such, I believe that at some point, people desire to be more independant and thus lie about hating popular things. Others follow them, creating a loop where more people believe that the popular thing is bad. This results in a percieved negative public opinion of popular things.
  4.
  5. Alternatively, you could argue that popular things are overused, the world becomes diluted, and thus the quantity goes up and quality seems to go down with it.
  6.
  7. A third approach would be to argue that popular things are put under much more scrutiny, and flaws are magnified.
  8.
  9. Fourthly, it could be that it is assumed many people like popular things (which is the converse of the definition of popular, a logical fallacy which is incorrect), and thus when people do not like popular things, they are percieved with greater magnitude, and seem more common than they really are.
