  1. <ArchZombie> Excuse me?
  2. * [k1l_] is away (not here ...)
  3. <k1l_> its enough of your "i am using unity but i hate unity"
  4. <k1l_> people tried to help you but your attitude and your responses show you dont want support you just want to stirr up the channel.
  5. <ArchZombie> They are not helping
  6. <ArchZombie> Gnome-panel does not provide a menu bar.
  7. <ArchZombie> It is a panel
  8. <ArchZombie> I am looking for the file, copy/paste, etc
  9. <k1l_> no, you are just wrong
  10. <ArchZombie> No I am not.
  11. <k1l_> for someone making that attitude you dont know much
  12. <ArchZombie> I am trying to get help, and you are allowing someone to troll me.
  13. <ArchZombie> I turn on gnome-panel and it does not provide a menu bar.
  14. <ArchZombie> it provides a panel.
  15. <k1l_> i told you what to do but you keep on going with that nonsense: "i want unity, i dont want unity"
  16. <ArchZombie> I have installed compiz.
  17. <ArchZombie> Here is the fact: gtk-window-decorator is not working.
  18. <ArchZombie> If it isn't supposed to work, someone should explain why, in more detail than don't use unity if you don't want unity.
  19. <k1l_> ArchZombie you know what a DE is?
  20. <ArchZombie> A component of the system is not doing what I expect it to, are you saying as an end user I am not supposed to configure a component?
  21. <ArchZombie> I am content to use it as-is with only one modification.
  22. <ArchZombie> I do not want to change desktop environment.
  23. <ArchZombie> I want to fix this one.
  24. <k1l_> <k1l_> ArchZombie you know what a DE is?
  25. <ArchZombie> Yes I do.
  26. <ArchZombie> And I am not content to use a prepackaged one.
  27. <ArchZombie> Is gtk-window-decorator not a supported package?
  28. <ArchZombie> Is disabling the unity plugin an unsupported configuration option change?
  29. <ArchZombie> If I make changes to my settings, does that make my PC now unsupported?
  30. <k1l_> yes. disabling unity plugin is not supported on the unity DE. which makes sense since its the unity DE.
  31. <ArchZombie> I am not asking for support with the Unity DE.
  32. <ArchZombie> I am asking for support with Ubuntu.
  33. <ArchZombie> Is not using the Unity DE unsupported?
  34. <k1l_> so why dont you start with the gnome desktop with gnome-panel running compiz. that is exactly what you asking for.
  35. <ArchZombie> Not, it isn't.
  36. <ArchZombie> *No, it isn't.
  37. <k1l_> sure it is
  38. <ArchZombie> No, I am looking for things to be exactly the same as they are now, except to display the original menu bar.
  39. <ArchZombie> The menu bar is currently missing.
  40. <k1l_> you cant strip out stuff from the unity DE.
  41. <ArchZombie> If you are saying asking people for help with a simple modification like this is not allowed, and that I must do it "the other way", you are denying that Ubuntu is a free operating system.
  42. <k1l_> oh man
  43. <ArchZombie> I used a GUI checkbox to do this.
  44. <k1l_> really? that attitude?
  45. <ArchZombie> I did not use a third party component.
  46. <k1l_> "do what i want or i will tell everyone that you are not free software"
  47. <k1l_> ok mate, go and get the sourcecode of unity, programm all the stuff you want, submit patches.
  48. <ArchZombie> No, I'm just asking you to unmute me and allow me to speak to persons in the channel who might be knowledgeable about the files in /etc/ I might need to edit.
  49. <ArchZombie> I'm asking about ubuntu components, ubuntu's customizations of components, etc.
  50. <ArchZombie> I'm not trying to rewrite unity.
  51. <k1l_> yes, you disabled the unity plugin which is not supported for the UNITY DE. like i told you 5 times now
  52. <k1l_> do you need it 10 more times? or 100more time?
  53. <ArchZombie> I'm asking for help with the components that make up ubuntu.
  54. <ArchZombie> Including gtk-window-decorator, and compiz.
  55. <ArchZombie> I am not asking for help with Unity DE.
  56. <ArchZombie> gtk-window-decorator and compiz are officially supported ubuntu packages.
  57. <ArchZombie> Do you deny this?
  58. <k1l_> you dont have a clue at all. so stop pretending you are that smart and have a clue. if people who have a clue answer you and you dont like the answer bringin in you "but i am a smart guy" attitude doesnt change facts.
  59. <ArchZombie> You didn't answer my question.
  60. <k1l_> blackmailing the users that ubuntu is not free software doesnt change facts.
  61. <ArchZombie> Is compiz a supported ubuntu packages?
  62. <ArchZombie> *package
  63. <k1l_> ArchZombie stop
  64. <ArchZombie> I'm not blackmailing you.
  65. <k1l_> you are still missing the point
  66. <ArchZombie> Please obtain a dictionary.
  67. <ArchZombie> And use it.
  68. <ArchZombie> Who is your superior then?
  69. <ArchZombie> I will talk to them.
  70. <k1l_> you are like a little child not wanting to here the facts
  71. <ArchZombie> I think you are giving me a lot of rhetoric, and in the end you are incorrect.
  72. <k1l_> once again: you cant disable unity-plugin in compiz and then want to run the unity DE.
  73. <ArchZombie> I have previously stated that I don't want to do that.
  74. <k1l_> that is like "i want to remove the engine in the car but your car must work then"
  75. <ArchZombie> I want to reconfigure the components.
  76. <ArchZombie> This is not likely impossible.
  77. <ArchZombie> It only requires knowledge of the configuration files of the officially supported components.
  78. <k1l_> like 5 people told you already the right facts, that you need to start with your reconfiguration from the gnome-fallback desktop and enable compiz there.
  79. <k1l_> as long as you start over and over again with your "i will disable unity on the unity DE" stuff we must think you are just here to troll
  80. <ArchZombie> Why is it so difficult for you to allow me to obtain an answer to my question instead of telling me what to instead of what I want to do?
  81. <ArchZombie> *what to do
  82. <ArchZombie> Why should YOU decide that I should use the gnome-fallback instead of the way I have it set up now?
  83. <k1l_> there were plenty of answers. all the right facts. but since you dont like the facts you start insulting others
  84. <ArchZombie> That isn't true.
  85. <ArchZombie> I have installed gnome-panel, and the menu bar does not appear while it is active
  86. <ArchZombie> And I also do not want it.
  87. <k1l_> that is totally true
  88. <k1l_> you dont even know what a DE is and want to tell me that i dont know the facts.....
  89. <ArchZombie> I know what a desktop environment is.
  90. <ArchZombie> Your attitude is laughable.
  91. <ArchZombie> If some configuration file or something must be set somehow, then someone should explain why.
  92. <ArchZombie> But as it is, you do not appear to know the answer yourself, and you are preventing me from asking others who might.
  93. <k1l_> 6th toime now: you cant run the unity DE without unity-plugin running
  94. <ArchZombie> As it is, the other guy whom I asked not to speak did also not know the answer to the question.
  95. <ArchZombie> I have configured and customized everything else to work.
  96. <ArchZombie> It is running just fine right now, except one problem. Can you prove to me that it can not be done?
  97. <ArchZombie> Or are you misunderstanding how the ubuntu DE works?
  98. <ArchZombie> It's just a collection of programs and configuration files.
  99. <ArchZombie> If you modify those configuration files you can modify the way the desktop environment works.
  100. <k1l_> the bars , launcher, decorations etc are hardcoded in the compizplugin.
  101. <ArchZombie> If you modify the configuration, you could rename the environment to "penguin DE" if you wanted.
  102. <ArchZombie> And it would show up in the menu, not as unity, but penguin DE
  103. <k1l_> so its either: all unity or: no unity. that is the reason people told you to use gnome-fallback DE to start with customizations.
  104. <ArchZombie> It's just a bloody collection of text files.
  105. <k1l_> *sigh*
  106. <ArchZombie> They can be edited with sudo nano
  107. <k1l_> ArchZombie no its not
  108. <k1l_> sorry, you are mixing stuff here.
  109. <ArchZombie> Programs can also be replaced.
  110. <ArchZombie> Give a concrete example of me mixing things.
  111. <ArchZombie> You have none.
  112. <k1l_> i am not talking about easy wallbuntu custom tricks to make a "new desktop" with changing name that pops up in the *dm.
  113. <ArchZombie> Can you tell me for example, how it used to render, and how it was changed?
  114. <k1l_> there is a lot of hardcoded stuff in unity, which is the compiz-plugin, (see why you cant change the window buttons to the right anymore, etc...)
  115. <ArchZombie> If not, you are totally ignorant of the situation, and qualified to decide that it can not be done.
  116. <ArchZombie> I can change them to the right now.
  117. <ArchZombie> I can change them to the left.
  118. <ArchZombie> I have done both.
  119. <ArchZombie> This is something you are ignorant of, and I know how to modify many things you do not.
  120. <ArchZombie> There are also more people who use this operating system who are not ignorant.
  121. <k1l_> so if you dsable it. there is a lot of stuff not working. you can of course replace some stuff. but some main parts will not work. so start from the gnome-fallback base. like people told you
  122. <ArchZombie> There are people whom themselves know how to solve this problem.
  123. <ArchZombie> You are exemplifying the reason that people dislike unity.
  124. <ArchZombie> You are attempting to force me to do it "your way".
  125. <ArchZombie> By muting me for no good reason.
  126. <ArchZombie> And on top of that, spewing falsehoods as justification.
  127. <k1l_> i muted you because people told you facts and offered a better solution but you insists to do it the wrong way which will not work in the end and started to insult people.
  128. <ArchZombie> That wasn't even a solution.
  129. <ArchZombie> What you just said is completely false.
  130. <k1l_> *sigh*
  131. <ArchZombie> Give me one example of a solution someone gave me.
  132. <k1l_> start from gnome-panel DE for example
  133. <ArchZombie> gnome-panel is not a desktop environment.
  134. <ArchZombie> It's just a panel.
  135. <ArchZombie> And I don't want it.
  136. <k1l_> nope
  137. <k1l_> you are very wrong on that
  138. <k1l_> very wrong
  139. <ArchZombie> I can execute "gnome-panel" and the menu bars do not come back while it is active.
  140. <k1l_> its your ignorance that is just hillarious
  141. <ArchZombie> I am giving you an example of why gnome-panel does not solve my problem.
  142. <ArchZombie> I also do not want panels on the top, bottom, or either side.
  143. <k1l_> logout, choose gnome desktop on lightdm, login come here, and excuse yourself
  144. <ArchZombie> I do have the gnome-desktop-environment package installed.
  145. <k1l_> then you can even start from a totally different DE base.
  146. <ArchZombie> Nor do I want it.
  147. <ArchZombie> *Do not have.
  148. <ArchZombie> I am asking for a small solution, not the easy one.
  149. <ArchZombie> Not the most obvious one.
  150. <ArchZombie> That would install a very large number of packages on my system I do not want or need.
  151. <k1l_> well. i am done with this. your ignorance from facts is blocking you.
  152. <ArchZombie> Give me a fact example.
  153. <ArchZombie> There is no such one.
  154. <ArchZombie> You are demonstrating an unacceptable attitude of superiority and authority.
  155. <k1l_> you can ask in #ubuntu-ops if another op will unmute you. i think you will again go mad in #ubuntu since you cant believe that your solution is not a solution at all.
  156. <ArchZombie> I do not find it acceptable for a channel operator to claim authority over how I run MY desktop.
