  26.
  27. Overview:
  28. In the 3110s and '20s, the DCMS began shedding a number of it's older designs
  29. on to the secondary market, and the Venom, supplanted by the mech it was
  30. intended to replace, suffered. Desperate to not lose out on profits for the
  31. time it would take to retool the Venom line back to the Spider, Nimakachi
  32. Fusion Products Limited developed the -9G, which hearkened back to the original
  33. Spider in many ways, while retaining it's own identity. A deal with the DCMS
  34. allowed Nimakachi to upgrade the aging -K series Venoms still in service with
  35. the Combine for a minor fee.
  36.
  37.
  38. Capabilities:
  39. The years of service many of the Venom units in the DCMS experienced revealed a
  40. subtle flaw in the skeleton of the modified Spider chassis, where the shins of
  41. many Venoms were showing wear patterns consistent with a mech almost a century
  42. older, necessitating a complete skeletal rebuild. Fortuitously, Nimakachi's
  43. designers had such a refit concept on hand, allowing them to upgrade the
  44. relatively weak armor of the -K series while retaining it's weapons load.
  45. Further, this armor upgrade would allow the new Venoms to take on more Japanese
  46. look harkening back to the armor of a samurai. A deal with Diverse Optics
  47. netted the new Venoms a pair of Medium Variable Speed Pulse Lasers, giving the
  48. -9G an incredible damage curve at close range.
  49.
  50.
  51. Deployment:
  52. While the -9G Venoms served admirably in the DCMS, the greater presence of
  53. Reflective armor on a number of Davion light BattleMechs relegated the Venom to
  54. raiding rather than dueling. Happily for Nimakachi, the various Gameworlds of
  55. the Inner Sphere began snapping up the -9G, where expert pilots have been seen
  56. downing opponents in machines with double the Venom's mass.
  57.
  58.
  59. Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
  60. Jun "Doctor Pain" Shizumi: Doctor Shizumi does not fit the mold set down by his
  61. predecessors on Solaris VII, being neither the stereotypical humorless samurai
  62. nor the amoral mercenary. Instead, this quiet pediatrician quite literally
  63. stumbled into the seat of a BattleMech during an open sim night at a Kobe bar.
  64. A clean sweep of the challengers there, including a recruiter for a small
  65. Cooperative, netted Shizumi a part time contract with the coop, where he began
  66. to gain fame. By 3132, Shizumi was fighting in the open classes, where he
  67. earned accolades for managing to take down a Barghest from Bromley Stables.
