The Trickster and the Harlequin- My Star Shine

You stand there at the foot of her bed. Knowing her for 30 years, you realised she wasn’t a snob from Manehatten, she was very nice. She cared for you and the rest of her friends, always there to be happy. When she saw the gem Spike presented to her 20 years earlier, she looked at you.
‘Yep, That’s what it was meant for.’ Was all you could muster.
But her she lay, in her bed, surrounded by everyp0ny that loved her dearly. Her once beautiful purple mane, now faded to almost grey, but still she held her natural beauty. Sweetie Belle stood by her side, and Spike, now standing as tall as you, holding her hoof.
‘I guess it’s time…’ Rarity says in a weak voice.
‘No….no please Celestia no…’ Spike whispers.
‘Gem, where are you dear?’
In walked a white unicorn with dragon scales on her back and a tail covered in white fur. She sat next to Rarity, laying on her chest.
‘Yes…I’m here mom.’ Gem said, tears falling down her face.
Rarity placed a hoof on Gem’s head, and pet her mane. She began to cry, for the first time she allowed her friends to see her cry.
‘You are my Gem Shine. My…*sob* only Gem Shine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You never know dear…*sob* how much I love you. So please don’t take my Gem Shine awaa….’
Her hoof dropped.
‘Mom….MOM!!!’ Gem screamed. ‘DAD I CAN’T HEAR HER HEART…’
‘No…’ you say.
No one in the room had a dry eye. The first of the mane 6 had passed on.

You awake once again, covered in tears. Rainbow was already up, stroking your head.
‘You okay Lokie…’ she said.
‘I need to go for a walk.’ You say, getting out of bed.
You put on some pants and jump off the balcony and walk towards the Everfree Forest. You make your way to a large clearing and stop. Taking a deep breath and looking towards the night sky.
‘LUNA!!!’ you scream.
‘Yes Lokie?’ comes a voice behind you.
You turn to see Luna standing in all her glory behind you.
‘Luna, why do I keep seeing these dreams? Are they the future? Why do I need to know these things, when they just make me cry?’
‘Lokie…I am not in control of your dreams, But I do see them. They break my heart every time I witness them.’
‘Then why am I burdened with them. I don’t want to see my friends die in front of me, not yet.’
‘Eventually you will have to burden yourself with seeing these things. It is life itself. My sister and I are burdened with this continuously, and when your time comes, we shall shed great tears for you.’
‘Luna…I don’t want to know these things.’
‘But with this knowledge, can’t you look forward to knowing you will be happy. Even the dark night sky has a few stars.’

You sit on the ground, joined by Luna.
‘I just don’t want to keep watching my friends die.’ You say‘I can’t keep waking up crying. Rainbow dash—‘
‘I won’t care.’ Comes a voice behind you.
You turn to see Rainbow standing at the entrance of the clearing, tears in her eyes. She walks up and bows to the Princess.
‘Miss Dash, I ask that you don’t. My visits to Lokie are not royal, they are for companionship.’ Luna says.
‘So your cheating on me Lokie?’ Dash says.
‘I can assure you—‘ Luna starts.
‘Don’t worry Luna, Dash is just messing with you.’
‘I was worried about you running off again, so I followed you.’
‘Thank you Dashie.’
‘I’m sorry to break this up,’ Luna says ‘But you will need to get home. Your young filly is having a nightmare, and from what I can remember from that age, she will need someone to comfort her.’
‘Thank you Luna. I shall see you on another night.’ You say.
Luna disappears in a flash as you run back towards your house.

As you open the front door, you hear it immediately. Harley is crying in her room. You run in with Dash in tow. You immediately turn on the light and hold her.
‘Daddy, Mommy… I was scared again…’ she says between sobs.
Dash floats over and puts her wings around both of you.
‘Did the monster return…?’ you ask
‘No…I dreamt you didn’t love me.’ She says.
You pick Harley up in your arms and carry her to your room, laying her in your bed. You face her towards you and Rainbow Dash
‘You are our Star Shine.’ You start.
‘Our only Star Shine.’ Rainbow continues.
‘You make us happy, when skies are grey.’ You and Dash sing together ‘You’ll never know dear, how much me love you. And you’ll never take our Star Shine away.’
Harley is already asleep, and Rainbow kisses her goodnight. You kiss Rainbow and Harley before falling asleep again.
