- PaulInouye: there's a reason why you don't see the bar move much... because people move up and down non-stop... to get to Tier 1 is not just about number of matches played.. you're only going to get there if you perform well in match
- PaulInouye: Because DrAngst.. you won.. you got a lot of assists.. you did a lot of targeting for teammates
- PaulInouye: Flanking, spotting assists count for quite a bit in terms of match score.
- BanditB17: You were quoted as saying it would take like 2500 matches to change Tiers
- BanditB17: are you worried about smurfs at all?
- TheGreenTank: players are looking at it as an achievement when it's not really meant to be
- PaulInouye: Bandit.. IF you do well consistently.. then sure.. you deserve to be up there in 2500 matches
- BanditB17: since they can start as Tier 4 and just sit there for a year's worth of matches
- BanditB17: a lot of tier systems I see, they shoot skilled players up to the top pretty quickly, where they belong
- PaulInouye: that's what happens with us too bandit... the better you do on wins.. the faster you move up
- TheGreenTank: @Banditb17 and every one of those systems can be exploited by rerolls
- BanditB17: how long do you reckon it takes to complete 2500 matches?
- PaulInouye: about 6-7 months
- BanditB17: so for those 6-7 months, a skilled player is being paired up against Tier 3-4-5
- BanditB17: there isn't a reward for being high tier, right? no cbill bonus or anything, no achievement?
- PaulInouye: no... skilled players will be playing 2-3-4
- TheGreenTank: about that paul - I'm a founder, and I have (I think) just over 4300 games played.... I realize I don't grind each and every day or play as often as other players have over the past few years
- BanditB17: is tier 4 the starting tier?
- TheGreenTank: 2500 games *might* be a little much
- PaulInouye: GreenTank... they took my quote out of context... that's 2500 games with a 50/50 win loss ratio
- BanditB17: the other concern is that this means even an average player can eventually achieve Tier 1 simply by grinding it out
- TheGreenTank: hm
- PaulInouye: if you're good and always winning.. that climb to tier 2 can happen a LOT faster
- BanditB17: doesn't matchmaking try to always make it a 50/50 win loss ratio though?
- TheGreenTank: so technically speaking someone can get to tier 1 with a sub-50% win rate with lots and lots and lots of games?
- PaulInouye: It does bandit.. but if you're so skilled that you are always winning, it starts bumping you up a lot faster so you don't spend a lot of time in a 70+% win ratio
- PaulInouye: GreenTank.. incorrect
- PaulInouye: actually.. not incorrect
- TheGreenTank: I realize it's extremely unlikely as an example lol
- PaulInouye: you have to get a very high match score and lose in order to climb 1 point per match
- BanditB17: and is winning really that heavy of a deciding factor? I feel like I win 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time I feel like I am carrying, but can't carry hard enough
- Rng0513: Roxette!
- voodoo_kitty: hello all
- voodoo_kitty: guys, stormcrown or ebon jaguar ?
- PaulInouye: Basically guys... Win/Loss decides which direction you move... your match score determines how FAR you move in that direction.
- TheGreenTank: maybe a community PSA would be in order? there's alot of confusion about what it's for and what it means and how it moves
- PaulInouye: maybe
- TheGreenTank: and like zakerystyfe the other day, some players are disgruntled cause they seem to think it works like call of duty ranks or whatever
- PaulInouye: there's also a lot of conjecture to make people feel justified/unjustified for their current tier
- PaulInouye: that's because zakerystryfe doen't have any idea how the system works
- TheGreenTank: well, only so much y'all can do about subjective reaction, says I lol
- PaulInouye: yeah.. unfortunately that's the case for most communications
- PaulInouye: say one thing and it gets twisted around to meet the needs of whatever special interest group is out there
- TheGreenTank: american politics in a nutshell
- TheGreenTank: so, another query: PSR isn't relative to other players? (it's probably been asked/answered already, I'm just lazy about digging around)
- PaulInouye: it is not relative to other players
- PaulInouye: again.. based on PERSONAL performance
- TheGreenTank: ahhh. that's another point I think flies over many heads lol - like, puzzle pirates for instance (I know, totally out of left field compared to MWO) has rankings that are relative to other players
- TheGreenTank: and WoT's XVM system kinda works that way too
- PaulInouye: basically PSR rewards teamplay
- PaulInouye: if you run around acting like Rambo.. you're not going to do well in the game or in PSR
- PaulInouye: if you co-operate with your team.. you'll do well in PSR
