  18. <launcherplot>Players reenlist for more mercenary combat through massively destructible environments in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. A direct sequel to the console original, the PC game has players resuming their place among the AWOL squad that found its fortune at the end of the first Bad Company. Picking up the plotline soon after the end of the first game, the story follows the group through the rocky Russian border and beyond, with missions set in dense jungles and barren deserts as well as snow-covered mountains. Buildings and other objects of all sizes can be damaged or destroyed completely, with the right firepower at the right time and place. Players can proceed through each mission as they see fit, be it through stealthy ambushes, keen tactical strikes, or heavily armed frontal assaults that leave nothing but smoldering rubble in their wake. As in the first game, players customize their characters by choosing an equipment kit before the start of each mission. In Bad Company 2, four basic kits are available: Assault, Engineer, Recon, and Medic. Each gives the character special abilities and limitations, encouraging squad-mates to support one another and work together as a team. As in earlier Battlefield games, players may commandeer vehicles they find in their missions, including motorcycles, patrol boats, tanks, and Blackhawk helicopters. Characters earn experience for killing enemies and accomplishing mission objectives. Experience points can be spent to upgrade the character. Player characters can also collect dog tags from the enemies they take down. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game supports a variety of online multiplayer options, including an assault-style "Rush" mode in which teams take turns defending and attacking crates of valuable cargo.</launcherplot>

  39. <launcherplot>Red Sonja, the She-Devil with a Sword, is a fictional character, a high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. She first appeared in the Marvel Comics's Conan the Barbarian #23 (February 1973). Red Sonja has become the archetypical example of the fantasy figure of a fierce and stunningly beautiful female barbarian who typically wears armor resembling a bikini or lingerie. The character now appears monthly in her own series, Queen Sonja, as well as a series of mini-series and one-shots, all published by Dynamite Entertainment.</launcherplot>

  360. <launcherplot>Return to the underwater city of Rapture in this anticipated sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed first-person shooter. Set approximately ten years after the events in the original, BioShock 2 casts you in the surprising role of a "Big Daddy," the prototype for the lumbering giants encountered in the first game. Your nemesis is, fittingly enough, a leader of the "Big Sisters," who plans on returning Rapture to its former glory. The Big Sisters are forming a new army of minions by snatching unsuspecting girls from the surface. Your goal is to put an end to the sinister scheme. Unlike the Big Daddies from BioShock 2's predecessor, you are more agile and have the ability to use plasmids to augment your deadly drill and rivet gun. Thanks to the Big Daddy's distinctive diving suit, you can also explore the briny depths outside of Rapture, but you won't necessarily be alone. Radio communication from Dr. Tennenbaum will keep you apprised of key developments, while Little Sisters can either be harvested for their powers or "adopted." The latter option has them tagging along to warn you of impending dangers or alert you to potential sources for more plasmids. BioShock 2 also features a multiplayer component developed by Digital Extremes. Multiplayer games take place prior to Rapture's fall, offering a new take on a familiar setting. Experience points earned during multiplayer combat can be used to unlock new weapons, plasmids, and gene tonics to customize characters.</launcherplot>

  381. <launcherplot>Red Faction: Guerrilla is the third entry of the Red Faction series and deviates from the first-person shooter genre that the previous two incarnations featured and incorporates an open world sandbox environment similar to Mercenaries‚ Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row ( which the developer‚ Volition‚ has also developed).Set 50 years after the events of the first two games‚ Mars has been liberated from the devious Ultor Corporation by Red Faction and the E.D.F. (Earth Defense Force) has stepped in to help the Miner Community get back on their feet. However‚ the E.D.F. has become an occupying force‚ taking over the planet‚ executing citizens and imposing martial law on the planet. As a result a new Red Faction element has been formed to fight the E.D.F. and once again bring peace and freedom to the Martian landscape. The player takes control of Alec Mason‚ a recently arrived dissident of Earth hoping to make his new life on Mars with his brother Dan‚ only to be swept up in the Revolution and free Mars five sectors (Parker‚ the Badlands‚ Oasis‚ the Free Fire Zone and Eos) from E.D.F. control. To do this the player must complete missions and destroy E.D.F. vehicles and property‚ lowering their control on each sector and raising the morale of the resident population. The missions range from story missions which purpose is to further advance the story and other missions including Transporter (returning certain vehicles to a safehouse in a certain amount of time)‚ Guerrilla Raid (where the player and a group of Rebels attack and E.D.F. building and destroying it)‚ Heavy Metal (where the player provides a distraction which allows fellow rebels to complete another mission without alarming the E.D.F.)‚ Demolition Master (which the player has to destroy a target within a certain time limit and a limited supply of ammo) and House Arrest (where the player must rescue hostages and return them to a safehouse). There are also missions that pop-up from time to time including Courier (where the player must track down and kill an enemy spy to collect the information he is carrying)‚ Assault (where the player must defend a certain target against incoming E.D.F. forces) and Convoy (where the player must either destroy a line of vehicles or capture a target vehicle and return it to a safehouse). Completing these missions will drop enemy control of the area‚ raise morale of the citizens‚ be awarded scrap and unlock more advanced weapons. To liberate each section the player must drop the E.D.F. control of the area to zero and complete the story missions‚ once the player meets this a final story mission will be unlocked which will liberate that sector and unlock story missions for the next.Players have a variety of vehicles to choose from‚ ranging from cars to trucks‚ dune buggys and dump trucks and even tanks and APC's (Armored Personal Carriers). There is also a plethora of weapons including pistols‚ shotguns‚ assault rifles‚ the sledgehammer (the players main weapon which can't be removed)‚ remote mines‚ anti-personal mines‚ rocket launchers and the dreaded Nano Rifle (which fires a stream of nanobots that can disintegrate targets within an instant). The player can carry four different weapons at a time and can swap them out through access at their safehouses or through ammo boxes littered throughout the landscape. The most advanced weapons such as the Nano Rifle is only unlocked through the story missions while some can be found in E.D.F. buildings (like the Singularity Mine) and each weapon can be upgraded through safehouses which include extra ammo and more firepower through scrap. Scrap is the game's currency which is obtained through completing missions or destroying E.D.F. buildings and vehicles. The game also has an updated Geo-Mod 2.0 game engine which allows the player to virtually destroy a building realistically such as making it lean left by blowing up the left side of the structure or lean forward if the front is blown apart. Players can use this to their advantage against enemies such as destroying the building from the ground floor‚ toppling it on enemies and vehicles or destroying the support structures of bridges with explosives‚ causing it to collapse with a convoy of enemies on top. It also features the physics engine‚ Havok for the character physics. There is also an offline two-player mode called Wrecking Crew where two friends take turns on four different modes such as Barrel Dash‚ Total Chaos‚ Rampage and Escalation and play a certain set of rounds to win an event. Online multiplayer games are present as well including Anarchy‚ Team Anarchy‚ Capture the Flag‚ Damage Control‚ Siege and Demolition which awards players experience points that they can use to customize their online players and acquire more advanced weaponry. Additionally‚ there are backpacks for the Wrecking Crew and Multiplayer modes which enhances the players abilities such as Jetpacks‚ Stealth‚ Vision (essentially an X-ray) and more power-based ones such as Concussion‚ which will knock over nearby enemy players and Tremor‚ which can damage enemies as well as structures. The PC game comes with the DLC Demons of the Badlands included which was previously only available for the Xbox360 and PS3 consoles.</launcherplot>

  402. <launcherplot>Single-handedly take out well-guarded targets through a combination of stealth and acrobatic maneuvers in this anticipated sequel to 2007's Assassin's Creed. Featuring a new protagonist in a different era, you'll control a young nobleman named Ezio Auditore da Firenze in 15th century Italy, at the height of the Renaissance. After a tragic event befalls his family, Ezio trains to become a master assassin, looking to exact his revenge on those responsible. Ezio will explore three sprawling cities, countryside, and various small villages while completing objectives during the day or at night. Assassin's Creed II offers three times the mission types found in its predecessor, with more things to see and do within each setting.Money is now an important part of the game, allowing Ezio to purchase weapons, clothing, armor, repairs, and decorative items for his Italian villa. Ezio can pickpocket people, search for hidden chests, and complete side missions to fill his coffers. Other key changes include Ezio's ability to swim and even soar through the sky thanks to friend Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine. The open-ended world also allows for more free-running, climbing, and leaping from great heights. Among the new weapons at Ezio's disposal are pikes, maces, war hammers, scimitars, axes, and twin wrist-mounted blades that can be used to kill two people at once. Updated combat techniques include the ability to grab, kick, head-butt, drown, disarm, or pounce on enemies. The PC version of Assassin's Creed II includes the "Battle of Forli" and "Bonfire of the Vanities" expansions.</launcherplot>

  423. <launcherplot>Raven Software presents an adventure for the ages in Singularity, a first-person action game that puts players in control of time itself. Set in the present day, the game's plot revolves around a science-fiction piece of equipment called the "Time Manipulation Device," or "TMD." It allows its user to send a single object (or person) forward or backward through time, relative to the world around it. The powerful device is central to both the game's puzzle-solving and combat. It could be used to age a strong iron gate blocking a path into crumbling rust, for example, or to revert an enemy soldier to a devolved, mindless, monstrous state. Players take the role of a top Air Force pilot named Nate Renko, who is sent to investigate the mysterious island known as Katorga-12, a source of powerful, identified radiation. It appears that the island was once home to a Cold War skunk works for the Russians, and the ground zero location of a time-space disaster that occurred 60 years earlier. Time itself is now unstable on the island, as it seems to fluctuate between 1950 and 2010. Nate faces Russian soldier enemies from both time periods, as well as ferocious animals and plants that have been mutated by the radiation and unstable time-scape. Combat in the game plays out as in a first-person shooter, with conventional firearms, and later using the TMD as a ranged weapon, as well. Nate obtains the TMD early in his explorations of the island, and discovers the device's full powers as he experiments throughout his mission. In addition to quickly aging or reverting targets, the device can freeze an object in space and time, and later in the adventure, Nate learns to fire an impulse of energy that blasts enemies and object away from him.</launcherplot>

  444. <launcherplot>Twelve years after the original StarCraft "zerged" its way onto computers, Blizzard's sci-fi strategy game finally receives its sequel with Wings of Liberty. Once again the game features three rival factions: the gritty, gutty terrans; the slithering, swarming zerg; and the psionic, cybernetic protoss. The single-player campaign focuses on the scrappy terrans, led by Jim Raynor, in a narrative spanning 29 missions. To help those new to the StarCraft universe, a number of mini-games are included to introduce key tactics and strategies. While the presentation has changed, Wings of Liberty's mechanics are similar in design to the original StarCraft, relying on the traditional real-time strategy framework of resource gathering, structure building, and unit generation. New troops, ships, and technology are included for each faction, as are an assortment of tweaks and upgrades to familiar faces.Online support for up to eight players is offered through Blizzard's Battle.net service, allowing gamers of all skill levels to be matched together for competition in leagues, tournaments, and ladder matches. Full stat-tracking is available, along with voice communication, Facebook integration, and cloud file storage. Also included in a built-in editor that lets players create custom maps with scripted events. Wings of Liberty is the first of three planned StarCraft games, each offering a single-player campaign focused on one of the three races (all races are available for offline skirmishes or online competition). Wings of Liberty is released in two packages: a game-only version and a collector's edition. The collector's edition features a 176-page book on the game's art, a making-of DVD, a soundtrack CD, a comic book, exclusive downloadable content for online play, a terran "Thor" pet for World of WarCraft characters, and a USB flash drive containing the original StarCraft and its Brood War expansion.</launcherplot>
