  1. "Oh...come on....you stupid...sonova..."
  2. >Yup...another morning for good ol' you.
  3. >You grunt as you haul yourself into your wheelchair, situating your legs just right.
  4. >Wouldn’t want to get them caught in anything.
  5. >”Get ripped right off,” you’d say.
  6. >Macabre humor, but it is what it is.
  7. >You crack your neck and work the wheels a little.
  8. >Yup, everything works.
  9. >You wheel yourself out for some breakfast. Every day, this gets a little easier.
  10. >Your arms are getting stronger, even as your legs look like they are wasting away.
  11. >”Good morning, Anon.”
  12. >There’s Rarity. Hard at work, as always.
  13. >She’s really learned to make a mean scrambled eggs, even they are, as she says, “a little messy.”
  14. >Now, if she could start making some bacon, you’d be golden.
  15. “Mornin’ Rarity. Got any plans today?”
  16. >You wheel yourself up to the table. Mmm, do you smell waffles?
  17. >Indeed you do!
  18. >You can hardly contain your drool as Rarity plates your breakfast, magically levitating your plate to you.
  19. >After perfectly situating the garnish, of course.
  20. >“None today, I’m afraid. I just finished that big order for the Canterlot royal guard, and I’m taking a bit of a break.”
  21. >Honestly, this mare doesn’t know the meaning of the word. She’ll be designing something before lunch, guaranteed.
  22. “A break is always good. Thanks for the meal!”
  23. >Rarity smiles warmly as you dig in.
  24. >By the time you look up, the warmth of her smile has faded, replaced more with pain than anything else.
  25. >She’s thinking about it again.
  26. >That day.
  27. >You were fresh off the boat, as it were.
  28. >Scared and confused, with nothing but the clothes on your back.
  29. >In a magical world of talking ponies.
  30. >The first p0ny you found was a filly, Sweetie Belle.
  31. >She seems just as scared as you as you were of her at first, but you needed help.
  32. >The two of you started talking, making nice.
  33. >You even commented that you really liked her mane. So soft!
  34. >Her big sister, however, was slightly more…impulsive.
  35. >She saw you and Sweetie Belle interacting.
  36. >”Sweetie Belle! Get away from that monster!”
  37. >You remember those words as clearly as what came next.
  38. >First, it was a rock to the face.
  39. >Admittedly, that hurt.
  40. >But what really hurt was when she levitated you and sent you flying.
  41. >Your first introduction to p0ny magic, and it was used to send you into a building, striking your back directly on a corner.
  42. >Just enough, it would seem.
  43. >Sweetie Belle must have given quite the speech in your defense.
  44. >You woke up in a hospital…of sorts.
  45. >You remember the doctor explaining to a weird purple unicorn that he had no idea what you were or how to treat you.
  46. >Oh, everyone was so relieved when you woke up.
  47. >That relief turned to sadness when the doctor asked you to move your legs, and you couldn’t.
  48. >For the white unicorn standing in the back, sadness was replaced with abject horror.
  49. >A creature, a being she barely knew, crippled.
  50. >For only talking to her little sister.
  51. >And it was all her fault.
  52. >In time, you would learn about the Elements of Harmony.
  53. >Rarity certainly earned her title of “Generosity.”
  54. >When you were finally released, she insisted on paying your medical expenses and taking you into her home.
  55. >Perhaps she viewed it as penance.
  56. >The early days were not easy. You admit, you were angry and resentful.
  57. >Angry at her, angry at yourself.
  58. >Angry that you needed her help
  59. >You said many horrible, mean things.
  60. >Things you thought you’d never say to another living being.
  61. >But still she was there.
  62. >Caring for you, helping you learn and build the strength to get by in your new state.
  63. >She even remodeled her home and business, Carousel Boutique, just so you could get around
  64. >Over the years, you suppose, the anger just faded away.
  65. >Worn down by her incessant generosity.
  66. >By now, you could probably get by comfortably on your own, in a home of your own.
  67. >But, now? There’s nowhere else you’d rather be.
  68. “Rarity…are you alright?”
  69. >Rarity’s smile slowly shifts to a frown.
  70. >”Anon…do…do you hate me? For what happened?”
  71. >You set your fork down, unlock your wheels and roll over to where Rarity’s sitting.
  72. >Almost as if on cue, she places her head in your lap, nuzzling your torso with a whimper.
  73. “No, no Rarity…I may have been mad before…but…”
  74. >You don’t finish your sentence, instead deciding to show her.
  75. >You raise her face up to yours and plant a small kiss on her lips with a smile.
  76. >She returns that smile, wiping the tears from her eyes.
  77. >”Thank you,” she whispers as she nuzzles your face.
  78. “So…want to go to the park today?”
  79. >”That sounds divine, darling.”
  80. >Yep…for better or worse, there’s no place you’d rather be.
