- "Oh...come on....you stupid...sonova..."
- >Yup...another morning for good ol' you.
- >You grunt as you haul yourself into your wheelchair, situating your legs just right.
- >Wouldn’t want to get them caught in anything.
- >”Get ripped right off,” you’d say.
- >Macabre humor, but it is what it is.
- >You crack your neck and work the wheels a little.
- >Yup, everything works.
- >You wheel yourself out for some breakfast. Every day, this gets a little easier.
- >Your arms are getting stronger, even as your legs look like they are wasting away.
- >”Good morning, Anon.”
- >There’s Rarity. Hard at work, as always.
- >She’s really learned to make a mean scrambled eggs, even they are, as she says, “a little messy.”
- >Now, if she could start making some bacon, you’d be golden.
- “Mornin’ Rarity. Got any plans today?”
- >You wheel yourself up to the table. Mmm, do you smell waffles?
- >Indeed you do!
- >You can hardly contain your drool as Rarity plates your breakfast, magically levitating your plate to you.
- >After perfectly situating the garnish, of course.
- >“None today, I’m afraid. I just finished that big order for the Canterlot royal guard, and I’m taking a bit of a break.”
- >Honestly, this mare doesn’t know the meaning of the word. She’ll be designing something before lunch, guaranteed.
- “A break is always good. Thanks for the meal!”
- >Rarity smiles warmly as you dig in.
- >By the time you look up, the warmth of her smile has faded, replaced more with pain than anything else.
- >She’s thinking about it again.
- >That day.
- >You were fresh off the boat, as it were.
- >Scared and confused, with nothing but the clothes on your back.
- >In a magical world of talking ponies.
- >The first p0ny you found was a filly, Sweetie Belle.
- >She seems just as scared as you as you were of her at first, but you needed help.
- >The two of you started talking, making nice.
- >You even commented that you really liked her mane. So soft!
- >Her big sister, however, was slightly more…impulsive.
- >She saw you and Sweetie Belle interacting.
- >”Sweetie Belle! Get away from that monster!”
- >You remember those words as clearly as what came next.
- >First, it was a rock to the face.
- >Admittedly, that hurt.
- >But what really hurt was when she levitated you and sent you flying.
- >Your first introduction to p0ny magic, and it was used to send you into a building, striking your back directly on a corner.
- >Just enough, it would seem.
- >Sweetie Belle must have given quite the speech in your defense.
- >You woke up in a hospital…of sorts.
- >You remember the doctor explaining to a weird purple unicorn that he had no idea what you were or how to treat you.
- >Oh, everyone was so relieved when you woke up.
- >That relief turned to sadness when the doctor asked you to move your legs, and you couldn’t.
- >For the white unicorn standing in the back, sadness was replaced with abject horror.
- >A creature, a being she barely knew, crippled.
- >For only talking to her little sister.
- >And it was all her fault.
- >In time, you would learn about the Elements of Harmony.
- >Rarity certainly earned her title of “Generosity.”
- >When you were finally released, she insisted on paying your medical expenses and taking you into her home.
- >Perhaps she viewed it as penance.
- >The early days were not easy. You admit, you were angry and resentful.
- >Angry at her, angry at yourself.
- >Angry that you needed her help
- >You said many horrible, mean things.
- >Things you thought you’d never say to another living being.
- >But still she was there.
- >Caring for you, helping you learn and build the strength to get by in your new state.
- >She even remodeled her home and business, Carousel Boutique, just so you could get around
- >Over the years, you suppose, the anger just faded away.
- >Worn down by her incessant generosity.
- >By now, you could probably get by comfortably on your own, in a home of your own.
- >But, now? There’s nowhere else you’d rather be.
- “Rarity…are you alright?”
- >Rarity’s smile slowly shifts to a frown.
- >”Anon…do…do you hate me? For what happened?”
- >You set your fork down, unlock your wheels and roll over to where Rarity’s sitting.
- >Almost as if on cue, she places her head in your lap, nuzzling your torso with a whimper.
- “No, no Rarity…I may have been mad before…but…”
- >You don’t finish your sentence, instead deciding to show her.
- >You raise her face up to yours and plant a small kiss on her lips with a smile.
- >She returns that smile, wiping the tears from her eyes.
- >”Thank you,” she whispers as she nuzzles your face.
- “So…want to go to the park today?”
- >”That sounds divine, darling.”
- >Yep…for better or worse, there’s no place you’d rather be.
