  1. I awoke from my sleep to the gentle chirping of the birds outside, only to be greeted by sunlight seeping through the curtains. As I slowly regained my senses, I fumbled around in search of my phone.
  2.
  3.
  4. A quick glance at the illuminated screen before me displayed the time in the corner. “9:00AM huh. Looks like I’m up earlier than expected” Not like I was surprised, today was a big day for me, and I couldn’t wait.
  5.
  6.
  7. The mere thought of seeing her face again today filled me with warmth and excitement that shook the sleep out of my eyes. Even though I couldn’t bring myself to say it yet, today was my big date with Honoka.
  8.
  9.
  10. My mind flashed back to a conversation on the phone.
  11.
  12.
  13. “So, what time does the movie start?” I recall asking
  14.
  15.
  16. “12, it’ll be perfect!” She replied with enthusiasm as usual
  17.
  18. Contemplating my next move, I managed to type out a “Can’t wait!” and it was settled.
  19.
  20.
  21. After having finally left the bed, I managed to go to my closet in order to pick out my outfit for the day. Upon looking at the dozens of options available, I got overwhelmed before finally settling on a decent outfit.
  22.
  23.
  24. It was nothing too extravagant, just a simple orange polo shirt and a pair of jeans. Not too casual or too formal with just the right amount of color to make my inner child smile. Having gotten dressed, I take one last look at myself.
  25.
  26.
  27. “We meet again” I spoke to the reflection looking back at me.
  28.
  29.
  30. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Now go out there and enjoy your d-” Despite only talking to myself at the time, I still couldn’t bear to utter the word “date” yet. I’d always choke on my own words and fumble around while my face starts to glow with a red hue. No matter how many times I said it, I still couldn’t believe that I was going on a date with an angel.
  31.
  32. Putting on my headphones and shoving my phone in my pocket, I started the music and start making my way to the Cinema. The walk itself didn’t take long as the place was close by. As if to reflect my mood, the whole street was extra cheerful today. I waved hello to all my neighbors as I passed their houses. Perhaps to the beat of the song or to the beats of my heart, I happily skipped there without a care in the world.
  33.
  34.
  35. It wasn’t long before I had reached my destination. An hour early too, unlike my usual tardy self.
  36.
  37.
  38. The cinema was in one of the largest squares in the city, encircled by shops from all directions. No matter where you looked you could see people moving about with their daily lives. Some were out shopping in the various stores present and some were just out for a sweet treat. Finding a free bench, I sat down and took in all of my surroundings. Before I knew it, I started making more notes on what we would be doing after the cinema, trying to figure out the best option.
  39.
  40.
  41. Before I knew it, my mental train of thought was broken the moment I spotted that familiar orange hair approach me. For a split second, time froze as I took in her beauty. It was a simple, yet powerful outfit. A light blue cardigan on top of a plain white shirt manage to light up her fair skin. Her blue skirt, striped in various hues complemented her cyan bowtie and deep blue eyes. Her side ponytail, usually only held together by a simple yellow ribbon, had a pink flower placed on top of it for some added flair. All together, she looked stunning. This was the first time I had seen her in casual clothes and it certainly won’t be the last. At least, that’s what I hoped.
  42.
  43.
  44. “Hi!” She greets me with her usual enthusiasm.
  45.
  46.
  47. I calmly respond with a “Hi” while contemplating whether I should compliment her. Before I knew it, my heart had already taken over. “You look amazing”
  48.
  49.
  50. “Thanks! I really like this outfit, picked it just for today” She responds with a wink.
  51.
  52.
  53. “Shall we get going?” I ask before starting to move towards the cinema. As I walked alongside her, I finally notice her empty hand. With that realization came a sudden urge, “I must hold her hand” I thought to myself. Before I could attempt to ask, doubts had started to encircle my mind.
  54.
  55.
  56. “What if she thinks it’ll be awkward?”
  57.
  58.
  59. “What if she doesn’t want someone to hold her hand?”
  60.
  61.
  62. I shrug those thoughts away off before taking a deep breath and just ask. “Mind if I hold your hand?” If there was one thing I had learned from her, is that being direct is usually the best course of action.
  63.
  64.
  65. “‘Haha, I was wondering when you’d ask that. You didn’t need to ask silly, we are on a date aren’t we?” With her approval, I lock hands with her as we continue towards the cinema.
  66. RIP
  67.
  68. “Are you excited for the movie?” I ask in an attempt to continue a conversation.
  69.
  70.
  71. “Of course! I heard the movie will have a lot of action scenes. Plus, I looove explosions” she says, using her hands to create an explosion of her own.
  72.
  73.
  74. As we approached the cinema, I could see the dormant neon sign grow larger with every step before we had passed it. The cinema itself was full of posters at every corner, showing all the movies that were going to air. The red carpets added to the hollywood aesthetic which was perfectly captured by the surrounding decorations.
  75.
  76.
  77. Glancing at all the posters, I managed to find the movie we were going to watch today. However, I had no real intentions to fully focus on the movie anyway; How could I with such an angel beside me. Just seeing her excited face would be a better experience that no movie would be able to match.
  78.
  79.
  80. We walk to the ticket stand and I start to buy the tickets. Talking to the clerk, I utter the line I’ve always dreamt of saying
  81.
  82.
  83. “Ticket for two please”
  84.
  85. While I bought the tickets, I saw Honoka looking around the cinema, her face glowing brighter with every cool detail she points out. “This place is huuuuge” “Ooh I want to buy some popcorn!”
  86.
  87.
  88. Honoka, entranced by her surroundings, did not notice me finishing up with the ticket counter. I called out to her and in a flash, her excitement just shifted from the cinema to the movie. Having heard her wish for popcorn, I had preemptively ordered some snacks for both of us. It wasn’t a lot of food, only a single bucket of popcorn and two drinks, but I wasn’t a heavy eater and Honoka’s smile is more than enough food for my heart.
  89.
  90.
  91. We walked along the red carpet till we entered the theater for the movie and sat down at our designated seats. By the time we got settled in our seats, the movie had started to play. The lights that gave the cinema a faint illumination faded into black as the central screen filled the room with its vibrant colors.
  92.
  93.
  94. As the movie progressed, Honoka’s expressions changed to reflect it. Whenever the main character won her face lit up, one look into her eyes and you can see the passion that lies within. Adding to that, her usual cheerful aura was heightened as a huge grin spread across her face.
  95.
  96.
  97. Unfortunately for me, it felt like the movie had ended in a flash. The credits rolled and I could see Honoka stretching her arms before discussing the movie. “That was awesome!” She excitedly discussed the movie until we left the cinema. Despite her comments being nothing but excited reactions, I couldn’t help but smile at them.
  98.
  99.
  100. “Aww, is the date already over?” Honoka sighs as she comes to that realisation.
  101.
  102.
  103. “Of course not, we still need dessert. What do you think of some ice cream from the shop over there?”
  104.
  105.
  106. “Yes! How did you know I was in the mood for one? You are psychic aren’t you?”
  107.
  108.
  109. “Haha, I wish”
  110.
  111.
  112. We entered the shop and begin to order the ice creams. The shop was slightly busy because of the summer demand, but we didn’t have to wait for long before we got the ice cream. We headed towards the bench where I sat earlier and started to eat.
  113.
  114.
  115. All it took was a single swift bite of the ice cream before Honoka started to shiver. She had gotten a brainfreeze as a result. In an attempt to alleviate the pain, she rests her head on her hand, dropping the ice cream in the process.
  116.
  117.
  118. As she realised her mistake, her face changed into a pout as she started to sigh. “It was good too”. Regardless of how cute she was when she was sad, I had to cheer her up. Picking up my ice cream, I offer it to her.
  119.
  120.
  121. “Here, you can have mine”
  122.
  123.
  124. “But, I’ll drop it again”
  125.
  126.
  127. “Guess that just means I’ll have to feed you” As I said that, my heart uses all the strength in the world to keep me upright.
  128.
  129.
  130. Taking another deep breath, I grabbed a spoonful of ice cream and say the magical words
  131.
  132.
  133. “Say aaah” I softly said, moving the spoon towards her. She smiles at me and complies, making the cutest “aah” known to mankind. The spoon finally reaches her mouth and she eats it all in a flash.
  134.
  135.
  136. Seeing my dazed self, Honoka seized the moment and took the ice cream. “Now it’s my turn” she says with a smirk on her face. With one movement, Honoka had turned the tables and my heart couldn't handle it.
  137.
  138.
  139. “Now say aah” She says. Being in my current state, I could do nothing but comply. As she inched the spoon closer to me, she suddenly broke into laughter “You are very cute, ya know that?” her words caused me to suddenly sway as I lost balance temporarily. Unfortunately, that meant that the spoon had missed it’s target and hit my cheek instead.
  140.
  141.
  142. “Oh no, now your face is covered in ice cream. What do I do?” she had started to panic slightly before getting an idea.
  143.
  144.
  145. “How about..” As she closed in on my face, I enter tunnel vision. Time had stopped and I couldn’t focus on anything but her beautiful face and deep blue eyes as she reaches my cheek….
  146. And wipes the stain off with a tissue in her hand. Feeling confused and utterly dazed, I was still speechless.
  147.
  148.
  149. “You expected a kiss, didn’t you?” She asked me calmly with her voice full of smugness. Still speechless, all I could do was nod. She paused for a while before deciding on what she would do next. “Since today was so much fun, consider this my ‘thank you’” Before I could ask what she was going to do, she leans in and gives me a quick kiss on the cheek. The feeling of her lips on my cheek sent a tingling shock down my entire being before I nearly fainted then and there.
  150.
  151.
  152. “Well then, I’ll see you tomorrow” She said with a wink before heading home.
  153.
  154.
  155. I remained sat down at that bench for a moment while I regained my consciousness. I had died and went to heaven, and I never want to leave it.
