  1. A pair of veiny hands gripped the rail of the bridge as if they were holding on for dear life. The owner of the hands stared into the dark, silky water below with a focused look upon his face. His eyebrows narrowed at the still pond as if he were trying to detect his own reflection, though making the discovery was obviously impossible in this dark of a night.
  2.
  3. He sighed, releasing his clenched fists. The figure turned around and leaned against the rail, his dark blue eyes now targeting the crescent moon in the sky. He squinted at it, shifting his position a little to the left. His face bared no emotion as he stared into the twinkling space, which was almost as dark and sooty as the pond below.
  4.
  5. "I thought I might find you here."
  6.
  7. A delicate voice broke him from his concentration, and he felt air lodge itself in his throat in his fit of astonishment. He turned just as the voice’s body emerged from the shadows. A woman with bouncy brunette curls and emerald green eyes approached him gently.
  8.
  9. "Rachel," He whispered, finally able to catch his breath again. The last time they had encountered was at the party just a few hours earlier. The business that he and Rachel worked for had recently received a large investment from a new and very wealthy client, and their boss insisted on a celebration.
  10.
  11. "Hello, Sean," She smiled politely, pulling her purple wrap tighter around her frail shoulders. She looked awkward, and he could reason why. Their last encounter had not left them on very friendly terms.
  12.
  13. Sean had not been excited on spending one of his Friday nights at work. It wasn’t as if his boss was forcing him to attend, but Sean unfortunately had never been the type of man with a busy schedule. His boss, even more unfortunately, knew that just as well as he did. Therefore, it was expected of him to come if he wanted remain on good terms with his employer, even if that meant attending when he knew the love of his life was going as well, along with her newly pronounced fiance.
