  1. Storm
  2.
  3. “Hey, Fido,” Moro said, leaning with his paw pressed against the schoolyard’s wall. His friend was crestfallen, staring down, but reacted when Moro cast shadow on him. The day was perfectly still. There wasn’t a single cloud. The yard seemed to be frozen in summer time. “Fido,” repeated Moro. His friend finally raised his face.
  4. “Uh… My name’s Ben… I told you not to call me that...”
  5. “Eh? Eh? What’s that? Didn’t hear.”
  6. “Um…”
  7. “Thought so,” Moro said, and smacked Ben on the head. “Get a grip, man! If you want something you gotta ask properly! I’m telling you for your own good.”
  8. Moro stared at his friend, but Ben’s eyes kept dodging away.
  9. “I-I just don’t know how…” he finally said. Moro took a moment and cleared his throat.
  10. “Then, uh, I can show you how if you wanna. You do it like this:” Moro looked both ways, making sure there wasn’t anybody around. “Wanna go on a date?”
  11. “What?”
  12. Moro smacked him again, laughing.
  13. “You heard me! Don’t play dumb…” he said, laughing nervously. He was blushing, his tail wagging.
  14. “Well… whatever you say, Moro,” Ben said, still not looking up.
  15. “Eeeh? You positive you wanna, Fido?”
  16. “Yes. Whatever you say…”
  17. “This guy…!” groaned Moro, raising his paw again. But he stopped himself. “Wanna go for drinks?”
  18. “Mm,” nodded Ben.
  19. “Or would you rather visit the forest?”
  20. “Mm.”
  21. “Which is better?”
  22. “Mm.”
  23. Moro frowned.
  24. “We’re going to the forest,” he stated.
  25. “Yes!” replied Ben.
  26. “We’ll go to those boats for couples. And you’re paying.”
  27. “Yes!”
  28. “Agh! I’m kidding! Of course I’m paying. This guy…”
  29. “Okay…”
  30. “You just gonna agree with anything? What if I ask you to look me in the eyes?”
  31. Immediately, Ben tried to, but he couldn’t hold the stare.
  32. “Nah, it’s no use. What if I ask you to close your eyes? Right, there we go. And if I ask you to stay veeery still…?”
  33. Moro started getting his muzzle closer to his friend’s. Soon he could feel his breath -- then thunder fell.
  34. “Gah!” jumped Moro. Both of them looked at the sky: a storm had broken out in a flash. “Too bad,” said Moro, grinning. “We’ll have to move the date to my place.”
  35. His friend grinned back.
