Marc Background

From a young age, it was clear that Marc was… unusual. The houngan who lived in the nearby swamp proclaimed that he "Had great Ashe!", and should learn to use it. Marc's parents, being good God-fearing Catholics refused to have anything to do with that. But still, the child was unusual. He'd speak to the local animals and claim they were speaking back. Things around him went strangely, sometimes very well, sometimes very wrong. His parents tried to stop him doing things, even when they helped, they feared the devil was in their child. Trying to be good, he tried not to use it. But he couldn't always stop it. And then came the day the bandits rode up to their homestead…

Worried at what others might think of their strange child, Marc's parents lived well out of town. Which meant when the bandits rode up, they were too far away for anyone to help them. Marc tried to stop the bandits, and his power meant he was able to kill them all. Unfortunately, he didn't have the control of what he could do to do it quickly or carefully. He was never really sure if it was the bandits or the power that flowed through him that actually killed his parents, but he knew it was the effects of his powers that burned down the homestead, left the area in utter destruction and chaos.

So, he ran. He was old enough to hold down menial jobs on farmsteads and in small towns — he avoided large towns. But still, the chaos followed him, and at times he couldn't help but channel the power. Things would go wrong, nature would get riled up, and he'd consider himself to blame and move on. A lot of it was probably just the effects of the Reckoner's minions and suchlike, but he couldn't know that.
