  1. The reflection in the mirror repeats my movements. I turn abruptly to face the northern mirror. My reflection stares at me in terror.
  2. Night closes in on me. The moonlight wanes until it barely illuminates the four mirrored walls. Or are there only three mirrored walls? I am almost certain that my evil twin brother, who has lured me into this trap, hides behind one of them.
  3. -
  4. The reflection repeats my movements precisely. I turn to the southern mirror. My dim reflection and I look at each other anxiously. How could my brother have become such a monster? Why does he kill people and drink their blood? Why does he trap me here? He must be standing behind one of the glasses, trying to trick me. Oh lord, what am I to do?
  5. -
  6. Once again, the mirror walls repeat my movements. Flawlessly. I turn to face the western mirror. In the half-light of the room I can barely make out my own face. Or is it the face of my gruesome brother, this fiend, this blood-drinking demon? Could he be repeating my movements, waiting for his chance to attack me from behind and suck blood out of my neck?
  7. -
  8. Yet again, the mirror follows my movements. Immediately I turn to the eastern mirror. A pistol with a single silver bullet hides beneath the skirt of my frock. I can shoot, but at what? If only I knew behind which of the mirrors this brute--my brother--is standing! All that I can do now is watch the reflections closely, hoping he makes a mistake. Then move, move as fast as I can. Will I be fast enough?
  9. -
  10. The reflection’s movements in this mirror are always delayed by a split second. Without thinking twice I yank out my pistol and fire. I was not mistaken. The silver bullet went right through my evil brother’s heart. He will never again suck a drop of human blood.

  12. Romania, XVII century. Abandoned castle. Midnight.
  13. A man in a gray frock walks out of the castle’s majestic gates, a smile dancing in the corners of his lips.
  14.
  15. A crowd gathers before the gates, buzzing like a disturbed hive.
  16.
  17. MAN: Listen to me, people! You are free now! I have slain the villain!
  18.
  19. CROWD: Look! It’s him! I remember his face! Monster! Blood-drinking brute! Kill him! Don’t let him escape! Kill him!
  20. -
  21. For a moment, image before me seems to laugh in my face. It shatters into a thousand fragments as the shards of the mirror crash to the ground. The room fills suddenly with smoke. My heart sinks. I stare blankly at the corpse of the mirror. I do not notice as the cold blade is thrust into my back. I have lost. Something above me obscures the moon and I fall into blackness.
