  1. Well there were many rabbis at the time of Muhammad who did accept Islam , the most famous among them was Rabbi named [Abdullah Bin Salam][1].Before conversion he was called as Husayn bin Salam. And it is impossible for everybody to accept a prophet even if it were a proven true prophet, Mankind is highly resistant to change and those who did not accept the prophet continued practicing their old derivative religion which mostly consisted of rabbinical rulings allegedly derived from torah which in itself is a subject of controversy among the Orthodox jews and the Karaite Jews.
  2.
  3. Following narrative about his conversion is reported in the collection of authentic [historical traditions][2] of Islam:
  4.
  5. >Prophet Muhammad asks the Jewish community:
  6.
  7. > “What is the status of Al-Husayn ibn Salam among you?”
  8. >
  9. > “He is our sayyid (leader) and the son of our sayyid. He is our rabbi
  10. > and our alim (scholar), the son of our rabbi and alim.”
  11. >
  12. > “If you come to know that he has accepted Islam, would you accept
  13. > Islam also?” asked the Prophet.
  14. >
  15. > “God forbid! He would not accept Islam. May God protect him from
  16. > accepting Islam,” they said, horrified.
  17. >
  18. > At this point I came out in full view of them and announced: “O
  19. > assembly of Jews! Be conscious of God and accept what Muhammad has
  20. > brought. By God, you certainly know that he is the Messenger of God
  21. > and you can find prophecies about him and mention of his name and
  22. > characteristics in your Torah. I for my part declare that he is the
  23. > Messenger of God. I have faith in him and believe that he is true. I
  24. > know him.”
  25.
  26. Hence in short there were rabbis at his time who did recognize him as a prophet , but the community excommunicated such rabbis and were soon forgotten.
