  2. I liked Kylo Ren with his mask on...I liked his force stasis ability. I liked that he was young and not fully trained and got frustrated. But then he took his mask off and he was just so fresh faced and it left me wondering what struggle if any he'd been through to be complaining about. Then he said something to the like of, 'I've seen through the Jedi's lies'...Anakin said something similar in Ep3. And it's frustrating cause I'm just like wtf are you talking about.
  3.
  4. (Adefice Lucere)
  5. Oh, and I have like 4k+Cartel fun money for some reason. I don't know why...but from what I'm seeing that would allow me to visually customize my dude with, say, Eradicator gear. I could make him look like I always wanted a Sith to look.
  6.
  7. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  8. I have a paid account so I don't know what you see, but you may be able to go in max just so you can jump into the new stuff right away. And yes you can spend cartel pts to have cool sith cosmetic gear.
  9.
  10. (Adefice Lucere)
  11. Yeah, Kylo mask on had "Justin likes dis" written all over it. He was really powerful and did epic shit. Then he took his mask off and it just deflated him. He started getting his ass kicked and for someone with such force power, he was shit with his (awesome) saber. I know he was injured, but to have two absolute saber noobs kick kick your ass was pathetic.
  12.
  13. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  14. Ugh yes...
  15. I miss you having to be trained for years or at least SOME amount of time to effectively use one. Finn losing makes sense, but Ray just igh. Like there are certain parts of the movie like but overall ehhh.
  16.
  17. (Adefice Lucere)
  18. Rey was written to be WAY too talented in goddamn everything. I know look learned to be a Jedi in like a week, but he had Yoda. Rey can fix everything, find all the Deus Ex Machinas in the world, speak every goddamn language, teaches herself to use the Force and *mind controls* someone as her first act as Awakened, AND can somehow figure out how to fight with a saber the first day she gets ahold of it and take down Kylo who has been trained FOR YEARS.
  19. Luke learned to be a Jedi...*
  20.
  21. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  22. And she's a crack marks woman her first time using a blaster.
  23. I was upset one because I wanted Finn to be a Jedi, and that disappointment is on me. But I also wanted Rey and Finn to be equal and on the Falcon they were. And they were both impressed by each other. Then in like the last part Finn was kinda useless. Rey got out on her own and Finn just kinda bought her a moment to wake back up.
  24.
  25. (Adefice Lucere)
  26. Yeah, that's bullshit. They kinda hammer the audience the entire movie with "she's super talented and can do anything". From telling Finn to let go of her hand, to correcting him when she doesn't need saving/tending to, to somehow being able to fix anything and understand all anything mechanical, to being able to somehow fly ANYTHING, to knowing the Millenium Falcon better than Han...then all her Force crap
  27. Yeah, Finn got the shaft the entire movie. He's trained as a janitor...for some reason put on active duty and his first battle he freaks out and decides to leave. Is the First Order that incompetent to not psych eval the guy before deployment? He starts as sort of a coward...but then he is real capable of killing his former comrades with no crisis of conscience. Then he becomes Krillen to Rey's Goku...
  28.
  29. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  30. Like Luke, wonder star force child still needed to be rescued by Han in the Empire Stiles Back. And I know Kylo is no Vader but Luke lost his first fight badly, as he should have. And yes it feels like they went out of their way to make Finn seem uncool/just comic relief. He's always panicking and freaking out about stuff even though presumably he's still had SOME sort of training, more than Rae at least. Then I'm over here wondering if I'm just sexist.
  31.
  32. (Adefice Lucere)
  33. See...its fine to have a capable female protagonist. But I can't empathize with her at all as she's never really in trouble. Finn is a rodeo clown at best, and that's dissapointing. Its like they'd gone out of their way to make a very female-empowering movie starring all our favorite characters from the old movies.
  34. So now Finn is helpless and hurt and has been made the "princess" as she states she will be back for him. He better turn into a cyborg with more combat ability, that's for sure. And you gotta love how the she's taken command of the Millennium Falcon like its hers now. Chewy is probably gonna follow her everywhere now.
  35.
  36. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  37. Yeah so now she's Luke AND Han, and I'm just sitting there like really...are you serious. Nevermind the entire movie being like a remix of the original ep 4
  38.
  39. (Adefice Lucere)
  40. YES. For fucks sake it was just ANOTHER DEATHSTAR TAKEDOWN. They just rehashed the same shit. She grows up on a sand planet like Luke/Anakin. She's a a tech prodigy like Anakin. They have to recover another droid with important information. Then they have to board and even bigger deathstar (again), take down the shields (again), blow up a weak point with x-wings (again). Did the fucking ex-Empire learn nothing from the last TWO super weapons?
  41.
  42. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  43. Apparently not, and I don't know who this new super bad guy is but I almost refuse to believe nobody knew about him before hand. Also where did the first order get the resources for that. The Empire had to almost bleed worlds dry to get the resources to build their fleet. And wtf is the Republic and what are they doing? Like how is there a New Republic AND a resistance?
  44.
  45. (Adefice Lucere)
  46. I guess the Republic is the established "good" society that was created after the war on Endor? Then the First Order someone rises from the Empires ashes with argueable more military might? And how is it a Resistance when the Rebels already won? Resistance would imply the First Order already took over.
  47. Why the "Resistance" isn't just the formal military of the New Public is beyond me. Honestly Stewart, I think if they were a formal military representing a government, we wouldn't see them as the good guys quite it much. Its like the writers are forcing us to believe the good guys are always these scrappy little rebels in a David vs Goliath scenario.
  48. New Republic*
  49. When quite honestly the tables should technically be reversed after the Empire was destroyed. But that might create a USA vs terrorism scenario, wouldn't it?
  50. 11:56 AM
  51.
  52. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  53. I mean if you setup the bad guys and Nazi, which the Empire and New Order are. Then, even legit government/military can be and are the good guys. And the New Republic woulda/shoulda been comprised of the old heros thus even further legitimizing it.
  54. The new heroes can be with some special ops unit or if they're Jedi it can work in a similar fashion as it did before.
  55. Stewart • 12:13 PM
  56.
  57. (Adefice Lucere)
  58. I found a write-up that hits almost everything we've talked about and more. It needs to be discussed.
  59.
  60. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  61. Haha, how did the rest of the group react to it? I left the theater and I was just thinking, 'omg...I didn't like a Star Wars film...who am I now...' The prequels came out and I was kid so I gave them a pass, save for Revenge of the Sith...and really haven't watched them since. This one however was well made and looks good, it's just the plot and my own extra knowledge of Stars Wars that was made think stuff was off. I thought I was going to be alone on my opinions. I also thought, "Damn is Star Wars really only for kids?" But I like all the animated shows and the comics. I think with Star Wars since it's so vast you almost can't do movies about it anymore. You need a more time to establish a greater looming threat. Let me know why this character is angry and takes the time to really do it right. Otherwise the guy just looks like he's having a hissy fit.
  62.
  63. (Adefice Lucere)
  64. Basically we all left the theater talking more about all our quibbles and the plot holes than "that way cool". Eric said it was good. I agree...but the plot holes really ruined a lot of it for me. All I could do was clutch the image of Kylo Ren close and keep at least that. Everything else was not as interesting.
  65. "that was cool"*
  66. All I know is I'm predicting Luke's eventual death and Rey taking hi place.
  67.
  68. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  69. I'm sure...and then it's hard to say anything contrary cause it just sounds like you're against strong female leads. I just want equality cause its more interesting.
  70.
  71. (Adefice Lucere)
  72. And what the fuck is with Poe Dameron? The movie does the typically "he dies in the crash" tease but he just suddenly appears later, gives a pathetic explanation as to his survival and we are meant to accept it.
  73.
  74. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  75. Haha, yeah I agree. I only accepted it because I was like oh cool Finn has a friend. I also feel like bb8 coulda been R2, but we want NEW toys. And that map thing to me was kinda lame. Like did Luke just give random folks vague fragments as where he was?
  76.
  77. (Adefice Lucere)
  78. Yeah, they definitely chose to make Rey overly capable then rub everyone's noses in it like the writers were punishing everyone for being a sexist. Is it too much to ask for a powerful, independant female character to just do shit without the story making a big deal about her not needing help or underestimating her to inevitably be proven wrong?
  79.
  80. If women are equal, then just have her succeed without making a big deal about it.
  81.
  82. And yeah, it would have been a lot better to have her succeed in unity with Finn.
  83. EXACTLY. Why would Luke even *leave* any breadcrumbs if he didn't want to be found? And BB8 had the exact location where he was...why the hell did we need R2D2 to show the outside of the map?
  84.
  85. For that matter, isn't it cowardly for Luke and Han to just abandon the "resistance" at the first personal failure they encountered? Luke goes emo when Kylo kills the other padawans and joins the First Order...abandoning the good guys and in part being to plame for billions of people dying. Han splits after his son goes badguy. Wouldn't Leia be pretty pissed at them both for their cowardice if she was anything like the Leia from the first movies?
  86.
  87. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  88. Probably, and I mean the first movies are about hope and not giving up even against an indomitable force. I would especially think Luke would be persistent.
  89. I was just really frustrated with that lack of explaining on why Kylo went rogue.
  90. And also Kylo is trying to be like his grandfather...does he not remember he lost and renounced the dark side in the end?
  91.
  92. (Adefice Lucere)
  93. I also find it retarded for the New Order to commit any resources to track down one man. The "last jedi" should not have been as big of a threat to a war machine capable of destroying 5 planets at once. Also, if the Stormtroopers are as expendable as they are, why the fuck would they care about Finn getting away? He was a janitor for crying out loud. And again, for being trained and brainwashed for literally his ENTIRE life, I don't believe for a second Finn randomly developing a conscience that nobody could detect. Phasma said it was his first transgression with no priors. Yeah right.
  94. YES. As I understand it, Kylo went rogue because of his obsession with his gramps. He HAD to have heard the entire story from his family...who would have clearly stipulated how Vader renounced the dark side and redeemed himself. So where does he get off just forgetting that part?
  95.
  96. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  97. You brought it up before, but I just wanted say I noticed it too, Finn had no issue killing Storm Troppers who brain washed or not was the only family he had known. I mean he seemed upset when that one Trooper died so it would seen like he knew and potentially had friends of some nature. I mean Kylo screamed at him Traitor! as if they all had some sort of kinship.
  98. Also Phasma did do shit and was just a New Bobba Fett but not as cool because she didn't do Anything but look fancy in her armor. Bobba at least fought a little bit.
  99.
  100. (Adefice Lucere)
  101. I disagree...I think she wasn't exactly this movie's Boba Fett. She was actually poised to be the first noteworthy trooper with any kind of authority below Kylo. AND A WOMAN. So she gets three scenes and in the last she gets taken hostage and does literally everything they ask her to do...gets shamed by Finn...then tossed in the trash to presumably survive. Never once demonstrating WHY she is in charge and wears the Chrome armor.
  102. Oh, not to mention she's in charge of some of the worst and most disorganized stormtroopers in the history of Star Wars. Terrible shots and somehow Finn's behavior and training were a complete oversight to her? You personally oversee these people trained since childhood and he slipped through the cracks? And when you order him to go get evaluated, you trust he'll just go do that on his own? No, you ARREST him right then and there and personally see to the problem since its her responibility.
  103.
  104. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  105. Haha, I meant didn't do shit
  106.
  107. (Adefice Lucere)
  108. Yeah, she was a failure as a commanding officer.
  109.
  110. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  111. And yeah I was like why are you so damn helpful. Put up a fucking fight, if you love this New Order so much. You'd think and officer that high up would have something clever hidden up her sleeve.
  112. Also the shields on the new Death Star thing...like the concept that we'll nobody is going to try this crazy stunt so we'll be fine. I know Han is a crack pilot especially with Chewie, but I feel like it shoulda at least looked harder to pull off. Otherwise it's like why isn't everyone doing that.
  113.
  114. (Adefice Lucere)
  115. Let this sink in: To save her own life (not that they'd actually kill her...seriosuly) she single handedly complies in compromising the integrity of the Galaxies most powerful weapon. Honestly Stewart, had she refused, the "Resistance" would have failed. Phasma was entirely responsible for everything.
  116. And yes, they again built a third weapon with shields a single person could disable. I'm sorry, but that shit should need top-level clearance and a multitude of secrity to disable. But the terminal next to the Bathroom on the "Aloha deck" allows one person access to the entire planet's defense systems...let alone one commanding officer and not, say, a defense systems engineer?
  117. She was a footsoldier...albeit a lead footsoldier...who could single-handedly disable a planet's shields.
  118.
  119. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  120. You know you're right. I mean back in the day nukes needed at least two people to launch like the keys were physical too far apart for once person to launch alone. You'd think somewhere in the space Empire they'd implement something similar...
  121. That is really a large issue. There's no way Phasma can stay with the Order...she is the only reason they lost. A multi-quadrillion credit super weapons lost because one soldier didn't want to die. There's no reasonable economics to her actions. That was a fuckup they need to put in the history books.
  122. And yeah, having a bunch of x-wings then be able to just shoot ANOTHER weak point.
  123.
  124. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  125. Haha well there's no record since the whole thing blew up so assuming she survived she may be in the clear. Ugh I can't believe it was just another Death Star, it was almost insulting. Like you do know we've seen ep 4 and 6 right...
  126.
  127. (Adefice Lucere)
  128. They took no risks. There was actually a overwhelming amount of recycled content.
  129.
  130. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  131. Man Han's death you could see from ten miles away.
  132.
  133. (Adefice Lucere)
  134. 1. Deathstar destroyed in three movies. Big > Bigger > Biggest.
  135. 2. Anakin and Kylo both kill Youngling trainees.
  136. 3. Two times people go into a trash compactor. Second is implied.
  137. 4. Poe and Finn steal a ship from a hangar...Anakin does too.
  138. 5. Luke watches Obiwan die...Rey watches Han.
  139. 6. The Emporer and Snoke both appear first as Holograms.
  140. 7. The M.Falcon is impossible nimble in tight quarters...but this time some-fucking-how by a newb on her first try.
  141. 8. TWO instances of a seedy dive-bar.
  142. 9. Hand gets shown up by Leia then Rey girlpower style.
  143. 10. Luke/Rey climbing the interior of the "deathstar"
  144. 11. Obi-wan disappears only for Luke to find him...Luke disappears only for Ren to find him.
  145. 12. Vader and Kylo using the force to interrogate.
  146. 13. There's always a Nazi/British guy in charge of the "empire"
  147. 14. Ren is possibly going to fall in love with the "scamp" like Padme to Anakin.
  148. 15. BB8 is just another damn R2D2 we didnt need.
  149. Han Solo gets shown up by women twice*
  150.
  151. Also, yes his death was so far telegraphed that I wasn't surprised in the least.
  152.
  153. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  154. Gawd her 'power' is almost insulting. I mean she can already fight toe to toe with Sith Lords where is she going to go from there. These are movies not shows they don't really have time to build up anyone but Kylo again. I miss force and Jedi stuff looking like you have to train for it. Which is odd because when you're a kid you just want to be special and don't think about the effort and years or work that goes into. Now as an adult I'm calling bullshit. I mean I looked at that fight and wondered if even Kylo knew how to really use his lightsaber and thinking me as is mighta had a shot of taking him down.
  155.
  156. (Adefice Lucere)
  157. I watched all the lightsaber battles of the prequels and some of them where goofy but they did overall kinda revamp lightsaber combat in a positive way. Now I understand Luke may not know all that so ehh...
  158. I guess her cost her equvilant of Luke's hand was Finn, but still.
  159. Finn will come back as her cycborg lover...but she's a strong woman so he's on the bottom.
  160.
  161. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  162. Also what stakes were there. I mean did you think for once second they were going to fail. Like I know I don't like deep movie where they kill off everyone. I just feel they didn't make anything seem difficult. Han was all like Maan we got this as opposed to the first movie where he was like 'man fuck that shit, I'm getting my money and getting out.' They only time it seemed hard was when Rae and Finn where figuring shit out them selves which I coulda used more of.
  163.
  164. (Adefice Lucere)
  165. Lol, I'll still he sad he's not using a lightsaber.
  166. Kylo can stop blaster bolts midair and read minds...not once did he use the Force to freaking end Finn and Rey at the beginning of the fight. Why did he bother using his lightsaber at all?! I actually like the idea for him to swing his saber like an overwhlming brute...but he could have shown at least SOME technique from years upon years of training under Luke and then Snoke.
  167.
  168. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  169. I agree, his expertise doesn't have to be lightsaber combat but at least show to me that you've got training and experience. Mores than anyone their first day on the job can hope to match.
  170.
  171. (Adefice Lucere)
  172. Well force pushing and locking people in place was working out pretty good for him...
  173.
  174. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  175. I also wanted him to keep his hood scarf up. And there are Jedi who specialize in that type of combat and there's even a lightsaber form dedicated to it.
  176.
  177. (Adefice Lucere)
  178. Dedicated to scarf-up combat or actually using your powers mid-combat? 😛
  179. Seriously though...freezing a blaster bolt was amazing. You cannot have him do that then tank the rest of the movie.
  180.
  181. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  182. YES. I get that he was hurt buuuut that just makes Sith stronger in alot of cases. And I think it would have been better thinking about it if he caught Chewie's bolt, and put back on his mask.. It would have been a great call back and shown that he's stronger and refocused to the Dark Side after killing his father
  183.
  184. (Adefice Lucere)
  185. Is it too much to ask for a Sith-type to walk into a room and exude force power commiserate with all the sacrifice it requires. I mean, The Dark side really is not manifesting has much stronger than the Light in any capacity.
  186. Seriously...the act of killing his Dad was the final transition. If anything he should have gotten a "boost" from the Dark side...hence what I just typed. I am not believing that Dark Side users are getting any "bang for their buck" when it boils down to it. They always effing show Light Side doing meditative shit like Rey did and all of a sudden getting stronger. All Dark Side people just get sloppier as the story progresses until they are defeated.
  187.
  188. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  189. I get that they're always trying to show that the Light is Stronger but it's more compelling if you make the Dark a real threat. It needs to be equal or greater to show much of a threat it is and how much a Jedi walks upon a tight rope with the force. Also Vader never whined...if his plans don't work he stands there on silent contemplation thinking of his next movd. Kylo literally goes to bitch about how his mind control isn't working.
  190.
  191. (Adefice Lucere)
  192. The upside is Kylo is in line for some character development as he "completes his training". He might mature and eventually become more Vader-esque. I'd actually LIKE to see him evolve over the next two movies into an immense presence.
  193. You never get to see a villain evolve and grow.
  194. Yeah, dark side use has been fairly tame. It always seems like Light side wins out even in power over time. There is no balance.
  195.
  196. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  197. It would be interesting. I liked that he was untamed and got angry and frustrated. just hope he keeps his mask on, his milk toast face upsets me.
  198.
  199. (Adefice Lucere)
  200. I had to look up milk toast. I mean, it could have been just milk to describe him...but no...toast also.
  201.
  202. Although, he comes across as slightly ethnic/Jewish...or is that just me?
  203. And yes, Justin law dictates masks and helmets must stay on. It pisses me off when they eventually take them off.
  204.
  205. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  206. It's the nose it's HUGE...another reason the keep the mask on. It's just for him to be so angry and to have no struggle in his face. Like what has he been through. Most sith have scars and tattoos that tell you they been through some shit.
  207. It was that and the movie only vaguely alluding to what happened that made me almost offended at his unmasked appearence.
  208. Stewart • 4:06 PM
  209.
  210. (Adefice Lucere)
  211. You're right. His youthful/clean appearance just makes his angst more petulant. Like a spoiled kids getting mad at something pointless. You're right...what did set him on his path? Or is he just an emo kid who is going counter-culture and is justifying it by cherry-picking only the "dark" parts of his heritage.
  212. 4:33 PM
  213.
  214. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  215. It better be good because Anakin's fall was some of the dumbest shit. It makes a bit more sense watching some of the other material besides the film but still...it was rough
  216.
  217. And I'll say it again it makes no sense for him to even be on the Dark Side. His father was so hopped up on Dark Side juice he was almost not even born twice because of it. Anakin almost chocked Padme to death when she was preggers, and then tortured and was going to execute Leia. Why would you you workship that side of the force and revere that side of your Grandpa

  225. Another issue I have with Star Wars is it seems the Dark Side only accomplishes something as a means of being spring-boarding the Good Guys. Like, they only kill someone important like a mentor or important figure because the character development of the one most affected required it.
  226.
  227. Stewart Bell (sauromon2000@gmail.com)
  228. Well Vader wall killing dudes left and right in the original trilogy just for the lulz/they failed him.
