  1. ---Monsters---
  2. --Draconians--
  3. -Dragon: Massive, four legged, ageless, winged creatures. Though rare, they are exceedingly smart and dangerous. These scaled beasts never truly stop growing, and spend most of their time hibernating underground. Records from centuries and millennia ago attest to some awakened dragons being as large as cities, with the ability to talk to and seemingly command any Drakes in the area. So far only two things are known to wake a dragon: hunger and proximity to a possible mate. There is at least one dragon on each continent.
  4.
  5. -Drakes: close cousins to dragons. Though similar in appearance, the intellect of a drake compared to a dragon is similar to that of a rat to a scholar. They are significantly smaller than dragons, their bodies reaching the size of a horse, but with only their hind legs. While dragons can seemingly command each element at will, drakes only seem to be able to breathe fire, and even that trait is specific to a small mountain-dwelling subfamily. Another distinction between dragons and drakes is the lifespan. While a dragon may never die due to old age, a drake can, after roughly fifteen years. This short lifespan gives rise to another distinction: rarity. Drakes can be found on almost every mountain peak, usually in small hunting packs led by an alpha, and breed rapidly. In nations with large mountain ranges, drakes have been known to become somewhat of a pest, raiding farms and villages for food. In ancient records, tales were told of those who managed to tame and ride alpha drakes through the skies.

  7. -Wyrm: While still in the Draconia family tree, wyrms are fairly different from their distant winged cousins. Long, scaly and winding, wyrms loosely resemble dragons except for a few key features: wyrms have no usable wings, only small vestigial appendages that may have been used for flight; at least four legs along their winding bodies; and no eyes. Wyrms are mostly found in caves underground, where their lack of eyes isn’t a hindrance. They don’t appear especially intelligent, though some have been heard possibly communicating with other nearby wyrms through low, grumbling roars that even shake the very ground when emitted by an elder wyrm. Like dragons, wyrms never cease growing, but aren’t ageless, with the oldest known wyrm dying at just over fifty years. As wyrms grow, more legs sprout from the new lengths as needed. Though rare, many nations have at least a few wyrms dwelling and tunneling beneath the surface, and not a few have run out of food underground…

  9. -Sea Serpent: Another oddity among the tree of Draconia, Draconus Serpentus spends ninety percent of its life under water, preying on the larger inhabitants of (worldname)’s oceans. Similar to wyrms, sea serpents never stop growing, and grow new pairs of fins as needed along new lengths of their bodies. The largest observed sea serpent was estimated to be several kilometers in length. With both gills and lungs, they can spend as much time above water as they want, allowing them to wreak havoc on any vessel that strays too close to their feeding grounds. Usually though, a sea serpent can be detected from a long way off, due to their calls. A low rumbling roar that can shake the hull of even the largest of ships usually means you are entering sea serpent territory, and should turn back unless you have brought a full armada to deal with said serpent.
