  1. Hi Saito,
  2.
  3. I fully understand your frustration regarding the complexity requirements we enforce for the passwords we accept. We agree with you that longer passwords are better, and share your desire for a solution. Unfortunately, due to the age, complexity, and variety of systems in place on campus and the way some of them interact, making that change is not a simple matter and it's going to be some time before we can ensure that all systems in place are equipped to handle longer passwords. There is a major initiative underway to upgrade identity and access management campuswide, but obviously this is an extremely expensive and time-consuming project.

  5. In fact, the additional complexity criteria that you've recently encountered is expressly because some industry software was rejecting passwords that we accepted through the global password change tool. To ensure that the passwords we accept were being propagated to all the student resources required, we had to add additional constraints to our password change tool.

  7. As a courtesy, I've pushed the password that you have on your reuy account to activate your CSE 30 account, but I must stress that this is a one-time thing. If you enroll in a course in the future that requires that you to use a course-specific account, you will have to abide by the complexity criteria enforced at that time.

  9. Thanks for your input and for taking security matters seriously. I'm sorry that there isn't a quick fix at this time.
  10.
  11. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
