  1. [11:51:48] %Sundar☼18: Welcome everyone to my lecture on Tamil Nadu! Sometime back, Aelita had done a lecture, about India, but this is quite a different presentation, focusing on one state of India.
  2. [11:52:14] %Sundar☼18: Every state of India has it's own sense of uniqueness, and thus different traits that distinguish from one Indian state to another.
  3. [11:52:47] %Sundar☼18: I will be talking about Tamil Nadu, a state of India located at the southern hemisphere of the Indian sub-continent.
  4. [11:54:09] %Sundar☼18: My personal background is that I was born in the U.S, and did not have the opportunity to have Tamil as a mother language. I had gone to Tamil Nadu personally 2 times during the course of my life. My parents however originated from Tamil Nadu.
  5. [11:55:05] %Sundar☼18: As I continue to grow up to this stage in life, I got to understand that India was very diverse, not in the case with regions, but also in the case of languages as well.
  6. [11:55:23] %Sundar☼18: The experience itself was very shocking that there was more than one Indian language (Hindi).
  7. [11:56:07] %Sundar☼18: Anyway, that's it for my personal background. I will be talking about during the course of the lecture Tamil Nadu's Geography, General Culture, Economy, History, and my own personal experience in this state of India.
  8. [11:56:21] %Sundar☼18: Now, onwards to talking about the Geography of Tamil Nadu!
  9. [11:56:44] %Sundar☼18: Let's first talk about the area and climate of the state, before continuing any further.
  10. [11:57:03] Krossfade: it's located at the tip of india
  11. [11:57:28] %Sundar☼18: Well, I think it's to the side of the tip of India.
  12. [11:57:46] %Sundar☼18: Tamil Nadu covers about 130,058 sq km, and is the eleventh-largest state in this country.
  13. [11:58:23] %Sundar☼18: The Western, Southern, and North-Western regions of Tamil Nadu are very hilly and rich in vegetation.
  14. [11:58:43] %Sundar☼18: Tamil Nadu is hugely dependent on monsoon rains, and is prone to droughts when the monsoon rain fails.
  15. [11:59:33] %Sundar☼18: I have watched many movies that has shown that monsoon rains were responsible of helping people to farm, and thus succeed in their lives.
  16. [12:00:19] %Sundar☼18: Anyways, the climate tends to be dry semi-humid to semi-arid.
  17. [12:00:39] %Sundar☼18: This state has two periods of rainfall: south west monsoons and north east monsoons.
  18. [12:00:56] %Sundar☼18: South West Monsoon rains occur between June and September, and south-west winds tend to be strong.
  19. [12:01:21] %Sundar☼18: North East Monsoon rains occur between October and December, and north-east winds tends to be dominant.
  20. [12:01:35] %Sundar☼18: And that's it for Area and Climate! Any questions before we continue on?
