  1. So, this is an announcement many of you will probably not like.
  2. Before you all panic though, hear me out.
  3. You've surely noticed that, these past few weeks, I've had several breaks. Finally I've decided that, once the current arc of The New Chimera ends, I'm going to do one or two interlude chapters and then have it go on a hiatus for a while. I won't be stopping writing, or even slowing down much (if at all), but more on that later.
  4.
  5. I'm not going to go on some big sob story because you all don't need that dropped on your plate. You've got bigger problems to deal with, you know, what with the global plague and all. Without full context this might come off as a bit...whiny? Weak? Something. I'm not sure what the word is, but that's immaterial. If you REALLY want to know the context, and get the "sob story" (which really isn't even a sob story as such? I don't know), privately message me about it on Discord, SH, or Patreon. It's something I'm pretty open about, just, again, I feel it's not something I want to put in a this announcement because I don't want to look like I'm trying to drum up sympathy, because I'm not. You're be completely within your rights to be disappointed with this announcement and I don't want to try to take that away from you.
  6.
  7. Basically, I'm someone who does not deal very well with my environment and routine changing. It's something I've struggled with throughout my life, and it's been a double-edged sword with my writing. On the one hand, it's part of what allows me to keep writing with such a consistent schedule, as writing becomes part of that routine. On the other hand, when my routine is greatly shaken up, like with quarantine, I have some trouble getting things out. I like to thing I've handled this fairly well in this previous year, going through a move, a couple of job changes, and going back to school after summer (Which always gives me trouble) without dropping a chapter (as far as I remember), but quarantine was just...too much.
  8.
  9. Anyway, I'm choosing to do this for a couple of reasons. The first and most important is, simply, I'm running out of steam. I posted weekly without breaks for nearly a year, and the creative well is running dry. I have broad strokes of what I want to happen, even another two or three arcs I want to do, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what the individual chapters should be containing to make those broad strokes happen right. So, I wanted to give myself a bit of a break and let my creative energies recharge.
  10.
  11. The second is that I've made very little progress on the rewrite, which I really want to do. When I'm spending most of my time completing the new chapters, I can't really go back and work on the old ones.
  12.
  13. And those are the reasons. I'm hoping that by doing this, once I go back to the new stuff, it will be higher quality while being much more consistent than it has been these past few months.
  14.
  15. So, I'm sure people are wondering about a timeline, and what I'll be DOING during this hiatus. I don't want to just do nothing on SH for a few months, and I don't want to post the rewrite until it's been completely rewritten. Fortunately, I have another series I've been working on for a while. It's much rougher around the edges than The New Chimera (I don't have an editor for it, and I'm just writing it willy-nilly as ideas come. Now that I think about it, in a way it resembles how I went about The New Chimera before I started posting to SH), but I'm having a lot of fun with it, and that's what matters, I think.
  16.
  17. I'll give a short summary of the plot at the end of the pastebin, but the point is that once The New Chimera goes on hiatus, I'll be posting that to SH. It'll drop one chapter a day until it's five chapters behind Patreon (I'm estimating that Patreon will be anywhere from chapter 18 on up by that time), and from then on it'll be weekly, just like The New Chimera.
  18.
  19. Once that is underway, I'll also be trying to put out a new chapter of the rewrite every week, two weeks if I'm having a particularly rough week. All rewrite chapters will be available with any tier of support on Patreon, as they are now.
  20.
  21. Once the rewrite is done (which will be up to...wherever feels best. I'm just spitballing without looking at the exact chapter numbers for when things happen, but like probably around chapter 30 to 35?) I'll begin posting that two to three chapters a day on SH. That should give me enough time to get Patreon appropriately ahead of everyone. The plan is also to keep the other series weekly, probably on Wednesdays or Thursdays.
  22.
  23. Anyway, new series will also be GB/GL just like The New Chimera. More focus on the GL than The New Chimera gives, GB is a bit more in focus than The New Chimera, but not incredibly so. Spoilers for the first chapter are ahead, as well as a more general spoiler that I don't know when it will be "confirmed" in the series itself, but I know I've mentioned it before. I like to think that an astute reader will probably be able to figure it out (or have STRONG suspicions at least), so I honestly recommend not reading that if you want the fun of looking for what it is. I'll put that at the very end of the pastebin and clearly it before it comes up so no one accidentally reads it.
  24.
  25. The plot is nothing groundbreaking (and, funnily enough, is almost entirely based around a dream I had up to like...chapter 4), a couple of young adults, a guy and a girl (Girl just turned 18 and guy is just about to turn 18) are being raised by the girl's grandfather. After the girl's 18th birthday, the grandfather chooses to introduce them to another world known as "The Outlands", which is actually more like a hub for other worlds, ones with magic and a status system and all this other stuff not in their original. The grandfather is not only ambassador to their original world, but guildmaster of the Freelancer's Guild, which is kind of like an adventurer's guild but more important.
  26.
  27. The Outlands are a sort of political no man's land, because they're too important to be ruled by any one governing body. There's a 'League of Planes' (think the UN but on a more cosmic scale), but their interference is limited. For all intents and purposes, the Freelancer's Guild is the governing body that enforces everything. Anyway, the grandfather is excited to finally be able to introduce them to this world, and goes to get their stats identified.
  28.
  29. The guy has the worst possible growth in every stat and the girl has the best. Seeing this, the God of Fortune takes pity on the guy and gives him her strongest blessing, causing the Luck stat to become completely irrelevant for him, instead giving him the best possible outcome whenever it would be used.
  30.
  31. And so, as you might imagine, it's going to be different from The New Chimera in the dynamics of how strong people are. The girl is more similar to Lilith in that her stats are just stupid compared to others, while the guy is depending heavily on Skills to get him anywhere and won't truly come into his own until later on when he has more of them.
  32.
  33. So, where does that leave us now? I'm hoping, REALLY hoping, to get the next chapter of The New Chimera out on time, but as of right now I have just under 200 of the at least 2,500 words written, so it might be delayed again. If that does happen, I'll either post during the week or just wait until Sunday, depending on what people feel is best. I want to do it during the week, but that risks throwing the schedule out of whack and...yeah.
  34.
  35. I'm anticipating writing anywhere from 2-4 more chapters in this arc (so 7-9 more chapters for the people on SH) and at least one interlude. Once the last interlude goes up on Patreon there should be no more delays whatsoever for everyone else - chapters will come out every week on Sunday until they're all the way caught up.
  36.
  37. From there, expect 2-6 months hiatus while I finish the rewrite. Once that's done the rewrite will be posted as a new series on SH (with the old one kept up as an archive of sorts), and I'll post an update on the old The New Chimera page with links to the new one and all that jazz
  38.
  39. And...who knows. I might end up bursting with ideas sooner than I finish the rewrite. If I can't keep myself away for long enough then I might come back early. I don't know, this is just something that I'm doing to refresh my creative wells.
  40.
  41. Anyway, THAT OTHER SPOILER BELOW
  42.
  43. This takes place in the planes of one of Kali's friends. It is, technically, shared universe with The New Chimera, and way, way down the line I definitely want to write the main characters of the series interacting. Not as a regular thing, but every once in a while, and I might do some non-canon holiday chapters or something.
