  1. At this moment in time there must be 5645646436 internet users who are web designers. Some have the right to be labelled as a “Web Designer”, but others don’t, they’re just self-proclaimed “Web Designers”.
  2.
  3. So what’s the difference between Web Designers & “Web Designers” then?!
  4.
  5. Eh Ehm.
  6.
  7. Let’s start with the bad guys shall we? The “Web Designers”. Now these guys really piss me off. The majority are sometimes like, “wow, i’ve designed my first ever website using a tutorial. I know everything.” Wekk to be honest, this isn’t the case at all. It’s fookin’ bullshit that’s what it is. They make a really shabby design, and poorly construct it together using horrific XHTML & CSS. That’s another thing that annoys me, how they build their sites. The coding has to be clean and preferrably ’strict’. Yer I know that this site only uses ‘Transitional’ XHTML but that’s because I didn’t have time to make it strict. Which I know isn’t an excuse by any means, but I’ll sort it in the future. Don’t worry! ANYWAY, back on topic. These so called “Web Designers” make bad designs, using odd shapes, shit loads of drop shadow, outer glows, no web-safe fonts at all. I know that ‘odd shapes’ and ’shit loads of drop shadow’ and ‘outer glows’ can sometimes look good on websites, but just be with me on this one yea? and try to imagine a horrific site using containing elements of the listed items above. It’s horrible isn’t it. But then it makes me laugh because they’re like why won’t my font work on the tinterweb? But to cut a long story short. They design for the web without actually knowing anything about how to design for the web, and without doing any research, background reading, and keeping up with the latest ‘trends’.

  9. Another important factor which I feel seperates the “Web Designers” from the Web Designers, is the amount of experience they have. The majority of these “Web Designers” advertise themselves as ‘available for freelance’ to members of the public, conning them out of their time and money so they’re paid to a poor job on something. Yeah, the client could be computer illiterate and have no knowledge of Web Design and W3C standards. But the contractor should, and most “Web Designers” don’t, and I think this is wrong! : (

  13. And indeed it does! About 2 years ago when i started to join the whole Web Design Scene, I had no clue what standards were etc. But that would only make me what? 14? So i get away with it. But over the past 2, 2 and half years I have learnt an incredible amount of information which has proved to be extremely beneficial.

  15. With great knowledge comes great responsibility or power or something like that?

  17. Back to experience though, in order to become good / better. Industry experience is crucial! So i thought why not look for some web design companies in manchester usint tinterweb. So I did. And I came across this pretty slick looking company called Reach BCS. They’re called Sizzle Media now though, I still prefer the name Reach BCS though. Anyway, upon my arrival of visiting the offices I was greeted by TAB101 (or more famously known as Aftab Ali :P). He’s the creative director of Reach / BCS, and he’s a pretty cool chap with a ’sick’ taste of music. We exchange Drum & Bass tunes now and again.. Ah, good times good times. ANYWAY, fuckin’ ell. This blog post is turning out to be more of my life story then anything to do with “Web Designers” and Web Designers. So yeah, this chap has taught me a lot. The designs I did then compared to what i’m doing now… I feel mint. Yeaaa.

  19. Anyways, off to the gym now.
