- >More time later...
- >OHHHHH KOLS IF YOU THOUGHT THE LITTLE ONES WERE BAD
- >THIS MARE HAS BECOME THE DREADED MOUTH DEMON OF KAR'GOTH
- >...well, maybe she isn't THAT bad, but still.
- >You're suprised that she hasn't run out of things to ask.
- >"...so where did you learn to fight like that?"
- >You sigh, and remove your hand from massaging your temple.
- >Damn ponies.
- >Too many questions, not enough ale to drown of the questioners.
- "Twilight, fer the love of Kols, would you stop with t'interrogation fer one fu- one moment?"
- >That was close, you almost swore in front of the little ones.
- >Her ears splay out, and she sheepishly grins.
- >"Erm, alright."
- >You rub your neck, scratching away an errant mosquito.
- >Rainbow flaps next to you.
- >"Seriously, where DID you learn to fight like that? I've never seen anypony move like you do."
- >You groan, and mutter to yourself, before speaking up.
- "Alright, this be t'last I'm gonna answer."
- >You cup your hands behind your back, sleeves dropping over to mask them.
- "I trained fer many years, trav'lin all over the world tae make it a better place for...well, ev'ryone, I think."
- >You remember all the sights and smells, from the high mountains to the low caves.
- >Especially the hot springs.
- >Kols, how you would LOVE to be there right now.
- >Instead of magical horseland.
- >Turning your head, you notice their dissapointed expressions, especially the rainbow one's.
- >"....That's it?"
- >You grumble, and look forward again.
- "Right now, I've got a headache from yer purple friend there, lass."
- >"I'M NOT PURPLE!"
- "Sure."
- >"...but I'm lavender..."
- >Disregarding her, you continue to walk forward.
- >You tighten your sash, shifting it for a second.
- >The rainbow one seems to have an idea, mulling it over before she starts to grin.
- >You don't like that grin at all.
- >"Did they have bets where you came from?"
- >You stop, and turn to her.
- "....yes...?"
- >She smirks.
- >"Hehe, I challenge you to a race! If I win, you tell us what your training was!"
- >Fuck, she's got you cornered.
- >You can't turn down a wager, it's against your honor.
- >The rest of the group looks over to you two with interest.
- "...And if I win?"
- >She appears to be confused for a moment, canting her head sideways.
- >"I...actually didn't think of that. What would you like?"
- >You think for a second, coming up with what you would win.
- >And you get an idea.
- >A terrible, wonderful idea.
- >You turn to her, masking your glee.
- "All the ale I can drink."
- >She furrows her brows, considering it.
- "Also, you cannae use your wings. I might be a monk, but I cannae outrun something that flies, lass."
- >She taps a hoof to her chin, before nodding, and sticking a hoof out.
- >"Deal."
- >You offer your hand, and the two of you shake on it.
- >Her brash smirk has returned.
- >And with it, comes the uneasy feeling.
- >But you push it down, and start stretching.
- "So, lass. Where is it we're runnin tae?"
- >She appears to be doing her own stretches, and she looks off into the distance.
- >"Hmmm...how about..."
- >She flies up for a moment, affirming her choice.
- >"There's a cottage not too far from here, we'll run to that."
- >You quirk an eyebrow in the middle of some trunk twists.
- "And where be that, lass?"
- >She face...hoofs?
- >"Oh yeah, I forgot you couldn't see it from down there."
- >You frown.
- "So, where, lass?"
- >She shrugs.
- >"It's pretty much at the end of this path."
- >You nod, and get in a runners pose.
- >She gets into a similar position.
- >For a pony, anyway.
- >Pinkie walks in front of the both of you, with a strange marked flag.
- >It looks like a chessboard, but on cloth instead.
- >Who would make a cloth chessboard?
- >"On your mark!"
- >Shit, better get ready.
- >"Get Set!"
- >You tense the muscles in your legs briefly, and share a glance with Rainbow, still sporting that cocky grin.
- >A twig snaps nearby.
- >Something feels off, as a chill runs down your spine.
- >You look over to your left, looking for what caused it.
- >You see a pair of faintly glowing orbs about twice your size.
- >The orbs come closer, gaining definition.
- >No...
- >How did it-
- >"GO-"
- >The beast roars, shocking the ponies nearby, especially the pink one.
- >'Poor lass.'
- >It slowly plods into the clearing, allowing you an even better look.
- >Some of the portions appear to be damp, confirming that this is the same one that was chasing you and the little ones.
- >It appears to have something in it's mouth.
- >The something looks like a mass of red, and it's dripping, which it then drops.
- >The mass lands on the ground with a squishy thud, and you get an even better view of it.
- >It apppears to have found a deer on it's way.
- >You hear a whimper from the group of ponies, and you turn to look at them.
- >They all have various degrees of either shock or revulsion, but none of any of the ones made that sound, as you can still hear it.
- >Looking at the yellow one- Fluttershy, you remind yourself-, she has the most heart-broken expression you've ever seen on her face.
- >Glancing back to the giant Timberwolf, it appears to have, quite literally, a wolfish grin on its face.
- >You guess that this is a shock tactic employed by it's kind.
- >It has little to no effect on you, but the ponies...
- >You weigh your limited options as it begins to pace around your group, which has instinctually tightened.
- >Trying to outrun it was futile, as your legs were WAY too short to facilitate an escape.
- >You have no choice but to fight it, sighing as you accept it.
- >You whisper towards the group, turning your head, but keeping the beast in your peripheral vision.
- "I'm gon' tae distract it, while you lasses make a break for it."
- >Even from your limited vision of the group, you notice their expressions of wonderment.
- >"Are you LoCo in the CoCo?!"
- >...or they think you're insane.
- >Turning to the creature, you shrug.
- >Maybe you are.
- "Regardless, I cannae outrun this thing. You nine can make good headway to the town, assuming it's close."
- >You tighten your fists, as the beast bares its fangs, snarling at you.
- >"B-but what about you? We can't just leave you behind....if that's ok with you..."
- >You snort in amusement.
- >Someone needs to teach this lass to have some spine.
- "Ye can, and ye will. Now, go!"'
- >You took the oaths for a reason, and you'll never go back on them...
- >Pushing the thoughts out of your mind, you dash towards the beast, and it reacts by swiping a paw at you, which you easily vault over.
- >After that, you jump towards it's face, attempting to get on top of it.
- >Suceeding, you grab a errant branch, holding onto it as the beast swings it's head back and forth to free itself from your presence.
- >You think that it won't work, before the timber you're holding onto cracks.
- >Uh oh.
- >One paticularly violent thrash later, and you find yourself on Terra Firma again.
- >Rolling with the force, you hop up onto your feet, and spot the group exactly where it was before you yelled at them to leave.
- "What are you duin? I told alla you tae run!"
- >The ground shakes, and you turn to face the creature, which is attempting to charge you.
- >Once more, it misses on account of your dodging...
- >...But it appears that it wasn't aiming for you in the first place.
- >As it bounds towards the group, you feel your gut sink.
- >They begin to scatter in panic, instead of fighting back.
- >For the love of Kols, they have a powerful wizard with them!
- >This thing should be a damned cakewalk!
- >You scowl, and take off towards the group.
- >Luckily for them, their panicked running was erratic, causing the beast to be slightly confused.
- >You crouch down, focusing your inner spirit to guide your body towards the creature.
- >Releasing the pent up tension, you jump, appearing to fly through the air, landing on it's back.
- >You begin to unleash a flurry onto it's spine, making it yelp in pain, before it bucks it's hips upward, knocking you off balance.
- >You lose your footing, and start to roll towards it's head.
- >It bounces it's front shoulders up as you roll, causing you to fly over it's head.
- >It opens it's maw wide, trying to snap closed on you.
- >Reacting quickly, you kick off of one of it's wooden fangs, managing to create some distance from it.
- >But not clearing it totally, as it grazes your leg, tearing open a gash on your pants, and subsequently your leg.
- >Landing on your feet, you grimace as you note the flow of blood coming from it.
- >You don't have long.
- >The ponies have actually heeded your advice in the time you were fighting it, and you see them running down the road, them getting further and further out of your vision...
- >But the yellow one saw what happened.
- >'No...'
- >She waves frantically to the others, trying to get their attention.
- >'Don't do it, you stupid mare!'
- >The others turn around, and they start to head towards you now.
- "KOLS-DAMN IT FLUTTERSH-"
- >You were too tied up to notice that the Timberwolf was encroaching on you, and you get knocked to the side by it's paw, smashing into a tree.
- >You land on your hands and knees, coughing up blood.
- >The wolf looks at you, and slowly paces towards you, reveling in it's victory.
- >'Smug bastard.'
- >It lifts a paw.
- >You can only envision what it's going to do with it.
- >It starts to bring it down...
- >And gets slammed into by a rainbow.
- >Wait...it wasn't a rainbow.
- >Well, it was, but-
- >You shake your head to stop the thought process.
- >"Oh yeah, you liked that didn't you?"
- >Dammit Rainbow, now's not the time to be a show-off!
- >She dances around, hitting him here and there every so often.
- >You actually have trouble catching her movements this time.
- >You're not sure if it's because she's going fast, or because of how much blood you've lost.
- >But as fast as she is, as good as she is, sometimes dumb luck appears at the worst times.
- >The beast swings a heavy paw, knocking her out cold.
- >She skids for a bit, and comes to a rest.
- >You see some scars on her side, luckily just skin deep.
- >But the beast is angry, and starts to walk over to her.
- >By this time, you've gotten incredibly woozy, and you can tell it's from blood loss.
- >But you can't just LET the beast win, especially with your oath.
- >'Until the evil is vanquished-'
- >It raises a paw.
- "-Fight until yer final breath."
- >You start to run, feeling comfortably numb.
- >It starts to bring it's paw down.
- >You don't know how, but you appear at it's right rear leg blazingly fast.
- >Lashing out with a kick, the branches it is made out of snap like bone.
- >It falls down, as one of it's legs were broken, and the other was in the air.
- >It crashes down onto it's side, yelping in pain.
- >Jumping onto the beast, you run to it's magical core.
- >Summoning the last of your strength, you bring up a fist.
- >Tapping the last reserves of your Ki, your fist starts to glow with righteous fury...
- >...which you then bring down, shattering through the layers of branches and twigs with ease.
- >It frantically thrashes about as you grab the core.
- >You rip it out, holding it above your head.
- >Unlike the other ones, this Timberwolf appears to stay still.
- >You hop off of the creature's chest, and drop the core.
- >Walking a couple steps forward, you turn around, and see that it does, in fact, fall apart.
- >It just takes a moment.
- >You remember how damaged Rainbow was, and try to walk over to her.
- >Instead, you fall to one of your knees.
- >You can barely see now...
- >You attempt to stand, only to fall down, lying prone on the ground.
- >A sound rings out.
- >It sounds awfully like...someone shouting.
- >Shifting your position, you see multiple blobs of color head your way.
- >"Anon, Rainbow, are you alright?!"
- >You slowly close your eyes.
- >At least your final act did some good for them.
- >Eyes shut, you begin to drift away....
