- Kirei's explanations on religion often fall on deaf ears with Neria, if only because the hypocrisy is thick enough to choke her as he explains concepts like charity, self-sacrifice, and humility. But the history behind it piques her interest, keeps her asking questions, even as he uses his station to shame her. He mentions no less than twice that he is organizing some kind of Easter egg hunt, encouraging her to attend. But when she arrives at his chapel, she is the only one there.
- And he explains, with a smile, that the chapel is the starting point for the game. He has hidden eggs throughout the city for people to find. The person who brings back the most wins a prize. He hands her a sheet of paper with clues.
- "Is the prize that they get to spend an evening with you?" she asks, on leaving. His laughter is her only response.
- It takes her hours to find even one. He's placed it on the edge of the roof of the lifeguard post on Chicanery Beach. Doubtless, others have only missed it because they are less inclined to visit. But as she grasps her prize, a boot finds its place in her back and sends her tumbling off and into the sand with a short shout. Kirei looks down at her, smiling. Long, strange blades are in his hands, thin like stakes.
- "What are you--"
- "Did I not say it was a /hunt/, Neria Surana?" he asks, and follows her down, his grin feral. "Do you want to know what your prize is?"
- Flames lick across the sand as she stands, scowling. "I'm quite hoping it will involve you drowning."
