  1. [13:08:11] <Kaingaskhan> LAST TIME, Natalie took off on her own for some reason, leaving the bewildered and in some cases, unbothered party behind. Amaryllis wasted no time in engaging pursuit, leading the party through the treacherous Seaways Canyon, which was pollinated at this time of year with monstrous flowers! That ordeal is now behind them, however, and as they exit the snaking canyons... the plains of the
  2. [13:08:12] <Kaingaskhan> northern Forgotten Continent open up to them, grass patchyes becoming more common here and there. One clue to the possible direction Natalie went is the presence of a trail in the dirt and dust, formed by what you can only guess is the body of a giant snake or worm of some sort. One of the girl's ribbons was found next to such a trail, making it likely that whatever happened, they've gone in
  3. [13:08:12] <Kaingaskhan> the same direction.
  4. [13:09:09] <Kaingaskhan> You can make out the hint of buildings on the very tip of the northern horizon, the map placing it as "Durandal", but the trail you may dare to follow leads northwest, toward where the map has Ipsen's Castle.
  5. [13:10:19] <Celina> "Well, Miss Amaryllis?"
  6. [13:11:39] * Amaryllis briefly pauses at the crossroads of sorts, pulling out the scrap of ribbon she'd kept. "Down this path. We should heed Quina's warning, and we can always visit later." She points down the trail and follows it.
  7. [13:11:44] <@Lenore> "Let's go the way Azure was going to go!"
  8. [13:12:36] <Celina> "I did mean 'which way was Miss Natalie most likely to go'..."
  9. [13:13:03] <Amaryllis> "The castle." Ammy says with confidence, not slowing down.
  10. [13:13:51] <Theta> "Well, I suppose we should trust your instincts on this matter more than anything," he nods to Ammy, following along.
  11. [13:13:59] <@Lenore> "Mmm!" Lenore nods, before doing her damndest to keep up with Ammy!
  12. [13:14:07] <Kaingaskhan> The merciless sun beats down as it has been all day since entering the canyon, and though now you lack the occasional shelter of the canyon walls, the temperature isn't so bad the further north you go. Early afternoon turns into late afternoon as you hurriedly hike across the plains, taking care into avoiding monsters. Or at least I assume you do!
  13. [13:15:14] * @Lenore has LIGHTNING BLASTS for any monsters that get in her way! Getting Nat back is important.
  14. [13:17:16] * Amaryllis has a more subtle approach, selectively darkening the shadows to conceal the party and putting any monsters that do notice them to sleep as the party continues on.
  15. [13:19:31] <Kaingaskhan> And as you lose sight of the Alexandrian colony, another building comes into sight. A castle, towering far, far above the floor of the basin it's situated in. An odd place to build a castle, it must be below sea level even! The sheer cliffs leading down into the basin seem to be a defense of their own against ground invaders... but the most peculiar feature about the castle is that it's not
  16. [13:19:31] <Kaingaskhan> one, but two.Squinting, you can make out a second castle, underneath the first, whose features are... turned upside down, and appear to form the base that the first castle is sitting upon. An enormous stairway leads from the castle's entrance to the ground, but that's all far far below. The cliffs seem almost insurmountable for those of you without ratfeet, their vertical height broken only
  17. [13:19:32] <Kaingaskhan> occasionally by massive, dead roots protruding from the ground at places. The roots, you realize, of the Iifa Tree, that erupted all across the world on that fateful day. Most places cleared out the roots with some effort, but these remain. They still don't seem like a very trustworthy handhold into the basin below...
  18. [13:21:08] <Amaryllis> (did we buy ropes and climbing equipment? I can't remember now)
  19. [13:21:18] <@Lenore> (Doesn't matter)
  20. [13:21:29] <Kaingaskhan> would have been a good year to invent parachutes
  21. [13:21:32] * @Lenore digs into her hat and pulls out a bunch of ropes!
  22. [13:21:46] <Kaingaskhan> (Bottomless pockets, eh?)
  23. [13:21:49] <@Lenore> (bottomless pockets, bitches)
  24. [13:22:09] * Theta sits on the basin edge and draws a quick sketch of the structure. "Most curious..."
  25. [13:22:23] <Celina> (why would a rat need climbing equipment)
  26. [13:22:49] <Celina> "So, I believe I could carry one of you at a time.."
  27. [13:22:53] * Celina eyes Ammy though.
  28. [13:23:02] <@Lenore> "Celly, can you set up these ropes for the rest of us?  That wouldn't take as long."
  29. [13:23:10] <Amaryllis> "Are you sure?" Ammy has already walked over to Lenore and taken a rope.
  30. [13:23:15] <Amaryllis> "Is it not dangerous for you?"
  31. [13:23:21] <Celina> "...Perhaps. Tell me what I should do?"
  32. [13:23:33] <Celina> "...And less dangerous than you breaking your neck, Miss Amaryllis."
  33. [13:23:48] <Kaingaskhan> The better question is if Celina can carry a grown woman in heavy armor
  34. [13:24:50] <Kaingaskhan> 1d1
  35. [13:24:51] <DiceMaid-9001> Kaingaskhan, 1d1: 1 [1d1=1]
  36. [13:24:51] * Amaryllis finds a sturdy rock to hook the rope onto or tie it around. "I planned simply to climb down."
  37. [13:25:21] <Kaingaskhan> Power 2, 2 force, athletics 5 though...
  38. [13:25:36] <Amaryllis> "I mean you no offense, but carrying me while attempting that leap is a far riskier proposition for the both of us is it not?"
  39. [13:25:50] <@Lenore> "Each of us has a rope, right?  So what I want you to do is take one end of each of our ropes to our destinations and we'll make sure to tie them all down, then we climb!  We can leave the ropes there for now, for when we leave here, okay?"
  40. [13:26:05] <Kaingaskhan> You're climbing DOWN the cliff, Lenore
  41. [13:26:10] <@Lenore> (...hurr)
  42. [13:26:13] <Kaingaskhan> Ipsen's Castle is in the bottom of a basin
  43. [13:26:19] <@Lenore> (herp)
  44. [13:26:28] <@Lenore> (REWRITING)
  45. [13:26:49] <@Lenore> "We'll just tie them here and climb down, don't worry Celly!  Just make sure you're down there in case any of us fall!"
  46. [13:26:59] * Theta likewise, just fastens a rope to a heavy rock. "This DOES indeed seem the more pactical approach."
  47. [13:27:09] <Celina> "All right." Celina may look relieved. It's hard to tell with ratface.
  48. [13:27:29] <Celina> do I need to make any rolls to jump down there?
  49. [13:27:51] <Kaingaskhan> Celina doesn't
  50. [13:27:59] * Celina jumps then. V:
  51. [13:28:00] <Kaingaskhan> As for the rest of you...
  52. [13:28:48] <Kaingaskhan> climbing down, let's see some...Athletics checks, with bonuses if you use your powers cleverly
  53. [13:29:25] <Amaryllis> (Can I use the creepy eye armor to look for better footholds and such while climbing down?)
  54. [13:29:25] <@Lenore> (What kind of rock is our cliff made of?)
  55. [13:29:43] <Kaingaskhan> JRPGneiss
  56. [13:30:07] * Theta scurries on down while beckoning the mountain spirits to help him keep his footing at trickier portions!
  57. [13:30:11] <Theta> 2d6+3
  58. [13:30:12] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, 2d6+3: 10 [2d6=5,2]
  59. [13:30:26] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy - that's interesting, I'll allow it
  60. [13:30:46] <Amaryllis> 2d6 no actual athletics score though :V
  61. [13:30:47] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, no actual athletics score though :V: 12 [2d6=6,6]
  62. [13:30:50] <Celina> welp
  63. [13:30:52] <Amaryllis> (pfft)
  64. [13:31:02] <Kaingaskhan> Theta doesn't seeem to have much trouble, the rocks just kind of poke out for him to stand on as he makes his way down.
  65. [13:31:10] * @Lenore tries to magnetize her feet to the rock with electricity! Might not work, though.
  66. [13:31:22] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy slides down extremely effectively due to having eyes on the back of her everywhere
  67. [13:31:25] <@Lenore> 2d6 Athletics
  68. [13:31:25] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Athletics: 5 [2d6=2,3]
  69. [13:31:32] <@Lenore> (a...ha.)
  70. [13:31:47] <Kaingaskhan> rocks do not work that way
  71. [13:31:55] <Kaingaskhan> Lenore begins to lose her grip! Aaaah!
  72. [13:32:09] <@Lenore> (Some rocks do~)
  73. [13:32:11] <@Lenore> (But most don't)
  74. [13:32:59] <@Lenore> 2d6 Awareness to grab a foothold ohgod
  75. [13:33:00] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Awareness to grab a foothold ohgod: 5 [2d6=4,1]
  76. [13:33:09] <@Lenore> (..+4)
  77. [13:33:17] <@Lenore> (so 9.  Durr.)
  78. [13:33:22] <Celina> (actually someone could argue that the red color of the rocks on the continent would indicate high amounts of iron, but then those people would be slapped by the GM)
  79. [13:33:28] * Celina dashes over to assist!
  80. [13:33:47] <Kaingaskhan> The black mage begins to slip as a costly miscalculation catches up with her, but she manages to grab a stray ledge, hanging for dear life by it and the rope.
  81. [13:34:43] <@Lenore> "Ah!  That...ah..."  She catches her breath, trying to keep calm despite the scary fall.  "I-I'm okay!"
  82. [13:34:51] <Celina> "A-are you sure?"
  83. [13:35:04] <@Lenore> "...um."
  84. [13:35:07] <Amaryllis> "Theta! Can you procure a ledge for her?"
  85. [13:35:19] <@Lenore> "N-no." @_@
  86. [13:35:20] * Theta taps the mountain wall, beckons it to help her get her footing
  87. [13:35:52] <Kaingaskhan> Roll meeee
  88. [13:35:55] <Kaingaskhan> a Nature check this time
  89. [13:35:57] <Kaingaskhan> Theta
  90. [13:36:30] <Kaingaskhan> Celina is easily able to stand on the all-too narrow ledge Lenore's found herself on, and lends a hand to help her from falling.
  91. [13:37:14] <Theta> 2d6+3
  92. [13:37:15] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, 2d6+3: 10 [2d6=1,6]
  93. [13:38:15] <Celina> "You can do it, Sir Theta!"
  94. [13:39:50] <Kaingaskhan> More of the rock seems to slide out under Lenore's feet at Theta's beckoning, and with his and Celina's combined help Lenore gets to the bottom of the cliffs where Amaryllis is waiting.
  95. [13:40:24] <Amaryllis> "Are you alright?" Ammy seems antsy to get inside but waits to let Lenore catch her breath.
  96. [13:41:16] * @Lenore finally reaches the ground, shaking. "T-that was scaaaaaary! I'm not sure if I want to d-do that again!" She leans against the walls and takes a bit to calm down and quit PANICking.
  97. [13:42:11] <Kaingaskhan> It hits you that it'll probably be worse on the way back up.
  98. [13:42:35] <Kaingaskhan> in any case, no choice but to press on from here!
  99. [13:42:48] <Celina> "Onward, then!"
  100. [13:42:51] * Celina leads the way!
  101. [13:43:00] * Celina has NO IDEA WHERE TO GO
  102. [13:43:25] <Theta> "Do you suppose we'll be on the roof when we enter or?"
  103. [13:43:28] <Theta> He looks to the stairs
  104. [13:43:46] * Amaryllis heads toward the castle entrance. "The denizens of this place are particularly dangerous. One does not normally venture here without accepting the risk that one's tale shall end prematurely."
  105. [13:43:52] <Kaingaskhan> No you silly, the stairs lead to the entrance, which is in the middle of the towering thing.
  106. [13:44:20] <Celina> "Then perhaps you should focus on the matter at hand instead of storytelling, Miss Amaryllis."
  107. [13:44:31] <Kaingaskhan> In any case as you near the entrance, you see the last remnants of the snake? trail stop at the staircase. ...you don't see anything indicating whatever came this way has left.
  108. [13:45:55] <Kaingaskhan> The castle seems even bigger from the bottom of the basin. Makes you wonder who in their right mind built such a castle in this fashion. In any case, the lot of you begin to ascend the stairs towards the castle gates.
  109. [13:46:25] <Amaryllis> "Stories are what nurture adventurers such as yourself, lady Celina. Without them, the way forward can easily be lost. In any case, shall we?" Amaryllis puts one hand on the front of the gate.
  110. [13:46:35] <Kaingaskhan> One sec, I'll pull up a pic for those of you who didn't play FF9 or don't remember
  111. [13:47:11] <Kaingaskhan> http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3piuiaeu91qgvvtno1_500.png
  112. [13:47:14] <Kaingaskhan> Only without the mist
  113. [13:47:34] <@Lenore> "These stairs are a bit..."
  114. [13:48:12] <Celina> "Living in the present is what nurtures me, Miss Amaryllis."
  115. [13:48:15] <Theta> "Tall, perhaps?  The architecture of this place is simply baffling on the whole, the stairs seem the most sensible part."
  116. [13:48:33] * Celina heads up the stairs. "Do watch out."
  117. [13:48:49] <Amaryllis> "And the present is but a pastiche of stories itself." Amaryllis continues onward as well.
  118. [13:48:58] <@Lenore> "No, it's just...they look dangerous.  Not many supports.  And they go so hiiigh...."
  119. [13:49:18] <Celina> "Reality is what makes stories, not the other way around."
  120. [13:49:51] <Amaryllis> "They are one and the same."
  121. [13:50:17] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy pushes open the gates, and the lot of you enter the forboding castle. The interior is normal enough for an ancient castle, you suppose, but it's dark, only lit by a few raised windows, and the smell is musty and old from thousands upon thousands of years of accumulated dust. You don't see any monsters, but you can't help but shake the feeling something is watching you.
  122. [13:50:25] <Kaingaskhan> Ipsen's Castle
  123. [13:50:30] <Kaingaskhan> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXGSH2AO4JE
  124. [13:51:40] <Kaingaskhan> In front of you is an archway that leads straight into the next room, as well as a set of stairs that lead up to a balcony high above.
  125. [13:51:51] <Theta> "I wonder how farfetched it would be to assume the dust bunnies have found selfawareness over the centuries."
  126. [13:52:02] <Celina> "That's how monsters are made!"
  127. [13:52:02] <Kaingaskhan> The massive pillars that line the entranceway give no reply.
  128. [13:52:48] * Celina takes the stairs up to check out the balcony.
  129. [13:53:22] * @Lenore looks around, wide-eyed.
  130. [13:53:29] * Amaryllis pulls out a lantern from her pack and lights it, bringing a small modicum of light to the surroundings. "Further in, I would venture to guess."
  131. [13:54:10] <Kaingaskhan> The lantern illuminates the room, and you see a shadow slink behind one of the pillars...
  132. [13:54:19] <Theta> "What it could use is some duster or sentient broom monsters, I reckon," he follows Ammy.
  133. [13:55:06] <Amaryllis> "Halt, something lurks here." Ammy stops abruptly and stares at the spot where the shadow was.
  134. [13:55:22] <Kaingaskhan> You look a bit closer.... but... Oh, huh, nothing's there.
  135. [13:55:38] * @Lenore immediately readies her staff! And then...puts it back.
  136. [13:55:48] <Theta> "Hm?"
  137. [13:55:55] * Amaryllis shuffles over the pillar, looking all around it.
  138. [13:56:01] <Kaingaskhan> Nope, nothing.
  139. [13:56:05] <Kaingaskhan> ...huh.
  140. [13:56:33] <Kaingaskhan> Behind Theta, a distinct metal-on-metal sound pierces the silence.
  141. [13:56:46] <Celina> Up on the balcony, do I see anything
  142. [13:57:21] <Kaingaskhan> And then a crash! ...A metal helmet rolls on the floor, having seemingly abandoned the decorative suit of armor it was attached to.
  143. [13:57:25] <Kaingaskhan> On the balcony? Nothing.
  144. [13:57:36] * @Lenore looks around panicked, trying to find out WHAT she's hearing!
  145. [13:57:38] <Kaingaskhan> There's a door that leads into a hallway.
  146. [13:57:39] * Theta scratches his head, confused, bends down to pick up and examine the helmet.
  147. [13:57:45] <@Lenore> 2d6+4 Awareness help?
  148. [13:57:46] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Awareness help?: 13 [2d6=3,6]
  149. [13:57:55] * Celina heads back down.
  150. [13:58:03] <Theta> "Maybe a small animal? Something quick, like a cat or a bat."
  151. [13:58:04] * Amaryllis turns away, seeing it was just a helmet, and proceeds further into the castle.
  152. [13:58:04] <Kaingaskhan> Things seem to move in the corner of Lenore's vision, but when she turns to look, they're gone.
  153. [13:58:59] <Kaingaskhan> Theta, history check?
  154. [13:59:13] <@Lenore> "Aaaaah.  They're just playing with us! Maybe we should move somewhere better lit!"
  155. [13:59:50] <Kaingaskhan> The helmet doesn't seem shaped for a human head, that's for sure.
  156. [13:59:53] <Amaryllis> "It appears content to observe for now."
  157. [14:00:01] <Theta> 2d6 don't have history trained
  158. [14:00:02] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, don't have history trained: 7 [2d6=1,6]
  159. [14:00:14] <Amaryllis> (can I roll history? :O)
  160. [14:00:24] <Kaingaskhan> Best you can figure it looks like it would fit Celina, but you have no clue.
  161. [14:00:31] <Theta> (I got armor snythesis, however.)
  162. [14:00:33] <Kaingaskhan> Sure if you want, Celina gets a +2 bonus if she wants to try
  163. [14:00:41] <Amaryllis> 2d6+3 historyyyyy
  164. [14:00:41] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, historyyyyy: 12 [2d6=3,6]
  165. [14:00:59] <Celina> 2d6+2 historyyyyyyyyyyy
  166. [14:01:00] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, historyyyyyyyyyyy: 7 [2d6=2,3]
  167. [14:01:03] <Celina> boo
  168. [14:01:59] <Kaingaskhan> Celina - definitely some burmecian armor. Ammy - specifically, it's from a few hundred years ago, far more recent than anything you'd expect to be in here. Probably from the time of Cid I
  169. [14:02:18] <Celina> "Hmm."
  170. [14:02:33] <Kaingaskhan> You also notice a couple of chests as you entered, by the way, but it seems they were looted already.
  171. [14:02:36] <Celina> Celina takes off whatever headpiece she's wearing now and attempts to try the helmet on.
  172. [14:02:49] <Theta> "Do be careful, might be cobwebs."
  173. [14:03:13] <Kaingaskhan> Snug! No cobwebs either despite theta's warning, but it doesn't seem particularly special or magical either. But it's authentic!
  174. [14:03:14] <Amaryllis> "The piece is centuries old. But newer than this castle, which says something."
  175. [14:03:43] <Celina> "The armor's not cursed, but it's not magical either."
  176. [14:03:52] * Celina takes the helmet off. "We should return this to where it was."
  177. [14:04:01] <Kaingaskhan> So which way, through the archway or into the hallway upstairs?
  178. [14:04:47] * Amaryllis goes through the arch. She had enough of stairs after the climb to reach the gate.
  179. [14:05:02] * Theta follows along easily enough.
  180. [14:05:39] <@Lenore> "I don't want to climb anymore!"  She runs right through that arch!
  181. [14:05:41] <Kaingaskhan> You step into a large, open room, far better lit than before due to numerous windows. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling, forgotten for centures. The most peculiar feature of the room seems to be a large pole that slides from the ceiling down through a hole in the floor.
  182. [14:05:49] * Celina quickly returns the helmet to its armor and catches up.
  183. [14:06:24] <Kaingaskhan> A table sits in this room, with two little chairs, but no occupants.
  184. [14:06:47] <Kaingaskhan> You also notice a single pint-sized bedroll. Huh.
  185. [14:07:02] <Kaingaskhan> Also awareness
  186. [14:07:10] <Celina> 2d6+2
  187. [14:07:10] <Amaryllis> 2d6+3
  188. [14:07:11] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, 2d6+2: 9 [2d6=6,1]
  189. [14:07:11] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, 2d6+3: 11 [2d6=5,3]
  190. [14:07:11] <@Lenore> 2d6+4 Awareness~
  191. [14:07:12] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Awareness~: 13 [2d6=6,3]
  192. [14:07:40] <Theta> 2d6+3
  193. [14:07:41] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, 2d6+3: 15 [2d6=6,6]
  194. [14:08:07] <Kaingaskhan> HOLD UP NOW
  195. [14:08:26] <Kaingaskhan> Theta and Lenore but especially Theta stop themselves right before a particular tile on the flooring that looks loose.
  196. [14:08:40] <Kaingaskhan> Looking closer, it's clearly a false floor panel of some sort.
  197. [14:09:12] <@Lenore> "I found a trap!  Everyone stop!"
  198. [14:09:40] * Theta nods. "Something is a bit off about this."
  199. [14:09:53] <Kaingaskhan> As you yell out, shadows up on the balcony in THIS room retreat into the darkness.
  200. [14:10:09] * @Celina jumps after them. >:I
  201. [14:10:18] <@Celina> "Shh! We're being followed!"
  202. [14:10:54] <Kaingaskhan> You land up on the balcony, but no one's in sight. ...weird. But there are footprints in the dust. Human-sized footprints, heavy boots. And then seem to go right through the wall.
  203. [14:11:21] <Kaingaskhan> No way for the others to get up there from where they are either.
  204. [14:11:27] * @Celina pokes at the wall. Secret entrance?
  205. [14:11:34] <Kaingaskhan> Not that you can find...
  206. [14:11:42] <Kaingaskhan> The dust around the wall isn't even disturbed.
  207. [14:11:49] * Amaryllis looks at the false floor panel. Does it look like it could be a trapdoor or more like a pressure plate trap?
  208. [14:11:52] <Kaingaskhan> And it seems solid.
  209. [14:12:01] <Kaingaskhan> More of a trapdoor.
  210. [14:12:04] * @Celina heads back. g-g-ghosts ;~;
  211. [14:12:06] <Kaingaskhan> @ Ammy
  212. [14:12:08] * @Celina sticks close to Amaryllis.
  213. [14:12:45] <Amaryllis> "What did you find Celina?"
  214. [14:12:55] * Amaryllis pries the tile back
  215. [14:13:59] <@Celina> "Absolutely nothing."
  216. [14:14:30] <@Lenore> "Nothing is scarier than something."  Nodnod.
  217. [14:14:33] <@Celina> "We're being followed by something roughly human-sized, but the tracks stopped at a wall - like they went right through."
  218. [14:14:59] <Theta> "Hrm."
  219. [14:15:14] <@Celina> "I don't like ghosts..."
  220. [14:15:18] <Theta> "Could you show me where? Interesting."
  221. [14:15:40] * @Celina points up to the balcony.
  222. [14:16:26] * Amaryllis gets an uneasy look on her face but continues with the trapdoor.
  223. [14:16:39] <Amaryllis> "There is nothing we can do about them for now."
  224. [14:16:46] <Amaryllis> "Simply hope they mean to observe and no more."
  225. [14:17:13] <Kaingaskhan> It doesn't pry up, but as you paw at it it does swing open, downward.
  226. [14:17:30] * @Lenore instantly tenses up when it does so
  227. [14:17:33] <Kaingaskhan> You see a dark room below. You can't exactly make out the features but it doesn't seem to have a smooth floor down there.
  228. [14:17:34] * Theta walks over to where the footprints stop, puts his hand on the wall and...seems to slide it like a door, Back Alley!
  229. [14:17:58] <Kaingaskhan> So... Theta gets a ride up there via Celina?
  230. [14:18:04] <@Celina> sure
  231. [14:18:06] <@Celina> I guess
  232. [14:18:44] <Theta> (Oh I wasn't aware it was UP in an unreachable area sorry :B)
  233. [14:19:00] <Kaingaskhan> I guess it technically does count as a town since 'crumbling ruin' is listed in that part but
  234. [14:19:03] <@Celina> ([15:10] <Kaingaskhan> No way for the others to get up there from where they are either.)
  235. [14:19:06] <Kaingaskhan> yeah it's kind of high up
  236. [14:19:49] <Theta> (Well OOC that disproves that theory I guess :S)
  237. [14:19:58] <Kaingaskhan> So what are you guys doing?
  238. [14:20:00] <Amaryllis> (are there other exits aside from the trapdoor?)
  239. [14:20:10] <Kaingaskhan> The most peculiar feature of the room seems to be a large pole that slides from the ceiling down through a hole in the floor.
  240. [14:20:13] <Kaingaskhan> (From earlier)
  241. [14:20:45] <Amaryllis> (oh I wasn't aware that was a big enough hole to be an exit. hmmm)
  242. [14:21:01] <Kaingaskhan> (Oh sorry)
  243. [14:21:09] <Kaingaskhan> Yeah the hole is decently big.
  244. [14:21:27] <Kaingaskhan> A giant snake could squeeze in with some difficulty.
  245. [14:21:42] * Amaryllis looks down both holes with her lantern, seeing if they appear to lead to different areas.
  246. [14:21:48] <Kaingaskhan> Nope, same room
  247. [14:22:01] * @Celina takes the fire pole.
  248. [14:22:22] * Amaryllis waits for Celina to give an all-clear before proceeding.
  249. [14:22:54] <Kaingaskhan> You sliiiide down the fire pole into...
  250. [14:23:11] * @Lenore gingerly follows down on the fire pole. I-i-i-i-is it safe?
  251. [14:23:11] <Kaingaskhan> ...the same room!? ...This looks like a carbon copy of the room you were just in, except for two key differences.
  252. [14:23:15] <Kaingaskhan> It's dark, and...
  253. [14:23:18] <Kaingaskhan> It's upside down!
  254. [14:23:46] <Kaingaskhan> You're standing on the 'ceiling' of this room, the rafters forming an odd pathway around a gravity-defying upside-down chandelier.
  255. [14:23:55] <@Celina> "...."
  256. [14:24:02] <@Celina> "I think it's safe, but none of this makes any sense."
  257. [14:24:08] * @Celina wobbles. VERTIGOOOO
  258. [14:24:42] <Kaingaskhan> As as the last one slides down, there's sort of a mechanical 'click'.
  259. [14:24:51] <Kaingaskhan> And the entire room spins around!
  260. [14:25:08] * @Lenore lands a little shaken, and then "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!"
  261. [14:25:15] * Theta looks down, then grapples down the pole, only tobecome thoroughly confused when things flip.
  262. [14:25:53] <@Celina> "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
  263. [14:25:59] <Theta> "I was about to say it would make sense if you consider the outside, but now I am not quite sure what to make of matters. Hrm." Not entirely shocked by things, just lost.
  264. [14:26:02] <Kaingaskhan> Precisely, the room spins around a full turn and a half, with the firepole exit seemingly the center of the mechanism.
  265. [14:26:25] * @Lenore grabs onto the nearest person when the room spins
  266. [14:26:41] <Kaingaskhan> That way out of the room remains intact, you notice as you pick yourselves up, but whatever direction this room was going to before, it ain't now.
  267. [14:26:48] <@Lenore> 1d4 Celly, Theta, Ammy, Prickles
  268. [14:26:48] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Celly, Theta, Ammy, Prickles: 1 [1d4=1]
  269. [14:27:00] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles is totally there and not forgotten about
  270. [14:27:15] * @Lenore grabs onto Celly and gets all teary-eyed.
  271. [14:27:19] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles: Squibble squibble! "My word!"
  272. [14:27:24] * Amaryllis picks herself off the floor, having 'fallen' onto the ceiling from the sudden shift. "Of course. Such a peculiar place and mechanism."
  273. [14:27:54] <Theta> "I am left to assume there is a room such as this one for each room in the structure, and they all behave in similar manners.  Which will make this place most diifcult to traverse, I reckon."
  274. [14:28:46] <@Celina> "I'm not sure how much more of this my stomach can take."
  275. [14:28:46] <Kaingaskhan> The only other exit to the room lays at the end of the rafter pathways, leading into a long, dark hallway.
  276. [14:29:12] * @Lenore is firmly anchored onto Celly.
  277. [14:29:40] <Kaingaskhan> The crystal shard was supposed to be deep beneath an ancient castle... hopefully you're going the right way!
  278. [14:29:46] * Amaryllis slowly makes her way into the hallway. "Nowhere else to go."
  279. [14:29:48] * @Lenore makes an occasional sobbing noise. Heights and being tossed around are scary. It's scary and nobody understands. ;_;
  280. [14:31:00] * @Celina pat pats Lenore until she calms down.
  281. [14:31:08] <@Celina> "Come on, it'll be all right."
  282. [14:31:08] <Kaingaskhan> As ammy moves into the hallway, the light of her lantern seems to dim, almost, not proceeding past a meter or two.
  283. [14:31:16] * @Celina feels SO AWKWARD GUYS
  284. [14:31:24] <Kaingaskhan> More notably, in the darkness, you can make out another lantern's light at the end of the hall.
  285. [14:31:35] * @Lenore EVENTUALLY gets over it, after much patting. She gets her vice grip off of Celly and wipes her eyes. "O-okay! I'm better now!"
  286. [14:31:47] <@Celina> "Oh? Really? Good. That's good."
  287. [14:32:13] * Amaryllis stops, peering closer at the other lantern.
  288. [14:32:16] <@Lenore> "I...I'm not gonna' cry...it isn't that bad, right?  Right?"
  289. [14:32:51] <Kaingaskhan> The other lantern glows softly in the darkness, a dark figure clutching it tightly with one hand.
  290. [14:33:25] <Kaingaskhan> Awareness
  291. [14:33:30] <Amaryllis> 2d6+3
  292. [14:33:30] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, 2d6+3: 9 [2d6=5,1]
  293. [14:33:33] <Theta> 2d6+3
  294. [14:33:34] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, 2d6+3: 10 [2d6=6,1]
  295. [14:33:35] <@Lenore> 2d6+4
  296. [14:33:35] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, 2d6+4: 9 [2d6=1,4]
  297. [14:33:35] <Amaryllis> 2d6+5 armor reroll
  298. [14:33:35] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, armor reroll: 9 [2d6=1,3]
  299. [14:33:39] <Amaryllis> (figures)
  300. [14:33:45] <@Celina> "Of course it'll be all right."
  301. [14:33:48] <@Celina> 2d6+2
  302. [14:33:49] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, 2d6+2: 9 [2d6=5,2]
  303. [14:33:57] <Kaingaskhan> go go circle nine
  304. [14:33:58] <Theta> (What the hell dicemaid.)
  305. [14:34:01] <@Celina> (nineball power)
  306. [14:34:07] <@Lenore> (NINEBALL SERAPH)
  307. [14:34:09] * Theta is just barely more observant.
  308. [14:34:21] <Kaingaskhan> You can't really make it out, for a moment it looks like two glowing eyes can be seen behind the lantern...
  309. [14:34:52] * @Celina grabs onto Lenore.
  310. [14:35:08] * @Lenore grabs onto Celly.
  311. [14:35:19] * Amaryllis slowly backs up. "Careful."
  312. [14:35:22] <@Celina> "GHOOOOOOOST"
  313. [14:35:22] <Kaingaskhan> What do?
  314. [14:35:27] * @Lenore patpatpat. "I-it'll be okay! I swear!"
  315. [14:35:37] <Kaingaskhan> The figure seems hesitant to approach.
  316. [14:36:09] * @Celina backs up.
  317. [14:36:15] <@Celina> "A-are you the one that's been following us?"
  318. [14:36:20] * Amaryllis sighs and thinks before calling out to it. "May we pass?"
  319. [14:36:20] <Kaingaskhan> No response.
  320. [14:36:26] <Kaingaskhan> No response.
  321. [14:36:30] * @Lenore tenses a bit...
  322. [14:36:35] * @Lenore lets go of Celly...
  323. [14:36:40] * @Lenore RUNS UP AND GRABS THE LANTERN
  324. [14:36:49] <Kaingaskhan> Which?
  325. [14:36:58] <Theta> "Uuuh..."
  326. [14:37:00] <@Lenore> "I'm not gonna' be scared!" The one with the figure
  327. [14:37:07] <Kaingaskhan> Lenore runs forward and...
  328. [14:37:09] <Kaingaskhan> BONK
  329. [14:37:17] <Theta> "Please - oh my."
  330. [14:37:18] <Kaingaskhan> Runs into a pane of reflective glass.
  331. [14:37:22] <Kaingaskhan> ...a mirror?
  332. [14:37:55] * @Lenore BONKs into the wall, then falls over. "Aaaah~. Pretty liiiiights~"
  333. [14:37:57] <Theta> "I was about to say it would be a poor idea to simply charge it, but...glass?"
  334. [14:38:00] <Kaingaskhan> Oh hey, it's a mirror. It was reflecting Ammy's lantern. But...
  335. [14:38:06] * @Lenore shakeshakeshake head. "I-I'm okay!"
  336. [14:38:09] <Kaingaskhan> Most of you were pretty sure
  337. [14:38:14] <Kaingaskhan> those weren't her eyes you saw
  338. [14:38:20] <Kaingaskhan> woooooooo
  339. [14:38:44] * @Celina chooses to disregard that fact in favor of IT WAS JUST A REFlECTION SILLY US
  340. [14:38:45] * Amaryllis approaches closer, cautiously, lowering the lantern as she raises the other hand to tap at the mirror.
  341. [14:38:53] <Kaingaskhan> Tap tap.
  342. [14:39:02] <Kaingaskhan> The large mirror covers the wall at the end of the hallway.
  343. [14:39:08] <Kaingaskhan> It has a large, ornate golden frame.
  344. [14:39:10] <Theta> "The more important question is why didn't it shatter."
  345. [14:39:25] * @Lenore makes sure she's not bruised before getting up.
  346. [14:39:38] <@Celina> "Mirrors usually have metal backings. You'd have to run into it pretty hard to shatter it."
  347. [14:39:43] <@Celina> "I think, anyway."
  348. [14:40:04] <Kaingaskhan> There's also a big door in the wall to your left that you can see now that you're closer.
  349. [14:40:34] <Amaryllis> "Let us move on." Amaryllis backs up, still staring at the mirror. She begins to head toward the door, then stops, turns around and returns to face the mirror.
  350. [14:41:06] <Amaryllis> She pulls out her kitchen knife and chips at a corner of it, testing if it's just really sturdy or if more concentrated force was needed to shatter it.
  351. [14:41:20] * @Lenore dusts her dress off, and walks straight for the door. "Let's quit being so silly and move on!"
  352. [14:41:23] <Kaingaskhan> Nope, pretty sturdy
  353. [14:41:53] <Amaryllis> Another jab at it, and then Ammy backs up toward the door as well, not taking her eyes off the mirror until she's almost at it.
  354. [14:41:54] * Theta shrugs, heading for the big door.
  355. [14:42:18] <Kaingaskhan> Nothing unusual...
  356. [14:42:36] * @Celina is sure not to be the last one out of the room.
  357. [14:43:10] * Amaryllis is probably the last, since she's backing out slowly.
  358. [14:43:33] <Kaingaskhan> As Ammy backs out of the room through the door...
  359. [14:43:37] <Kaingaskhan> 1d100
  360. [14:43:37] <DiceMaid-9001> Kaingaskhan, 1d100: 76 [1d100=76]
  361. [14:45:02] <Kaingaskhan> The reflection slides its knife across its throat in a drawn-out mock-suicide fashion, before vanishing completely and reflecting only the empty hallway.
  362. [14:45:42] * Amaryllis shivers as she backs through the door.
  363. [14:46:13] <Kaingaskhan> You step out of one hallway into another, this one with actual windows high up this time, raining down light into this upside-down room. Suits of armor hang from the ceiling, watching you pass by slowly. You still can't shake the feeling something's watching...
  364. [14:46:37] * @Lenore grits her teeth and stomps through that hallway.
  365. [14:46:53] * Theta just keeps an eye on the cieling for falling helmets.
  366. [14:47:06] <Kaingaskhan> Shadows flicker across the windows as if something passes by them, but you don't see anything, only a blur of motion.
  367. [14:48:04] <Kaingaskhan> Everything goes silent... silent, like a calm before the storm... God this is a long hallway. You're almost at the end to the next door, when you hear a noise behind you...
  368. [14:48:05] <Amaryllis> "It is as if the castle itself were a living entity, taunting us as we traverse its halls."
  369. [14:49:01] <AZURE_SURPRISE> ... And something grabs Celina by the legs!
  370. [14:49:12] <AZURE_SURPRISE> "BOO."
  371. [14:49:17] * @Celina reacts in a completly sensible fashion
  372. [14:49:25] * @Celina by that we mean FIRE BREATH
  373. [14:49:37] <@Celina> "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
  374. [14:49:45] * AZURE_SURPRISE is now known as Natalie
  375. [14:49:47] * @Lenore almost instinctively turns around and blasts a WARNING SHOT OF LIGHTNING AT AZURE
  376. [14:50:16] * Natalie BACKFLIPS - possibly on fire - while laughing an unholily loud laugh.
  377. [14:50:26] <@Lenore> "...eh?"
  378. [14:50:40] <Natalie> "Pfffhahahahaha!  Haha... ha..."
  379. [14:50:51] <@Lenore> "A-ah!  I'm sorry Azure!"
  380. [14:51:17] * Natalie flicks a healing spark at anything burning and dusts her dress off. "Ahem."
  381. [14:51:19] <@Celina> "...I'd say you should know better than that, but you really don't seem to know better than anything."
  382. [14:51:22] * Amaryllis does not look amused. She grabs the young noble by the ear and drags her aside. "Explain."
  383. [14:51:44] <Natalie> "Nnn-"
  384. [14:52:18] * Theta simply watches. "Hrm. Not what I expected, but..."
  385. [14:52:26] <Natalie> "W-What is it?  I decided to come early so I told y-..."
  386. [14:52:28] <Natalie> "..."
  387. [14:52:34] <Natalie> "....."
  388. [14:52:35] <@Lenore> "That was pretty mean of you, Azure! And you really really worried me!"
  389. [14:52:45] <Natalie> "I DID remember to tell you, didn't I?"
  390. [14:53:09] <Amaryllis> "No." Ammy lets go with an exasperated sigh. "Never again. Especially not such a place as this."
  391. [14:53:53] <Natalie> "Ohh, so it..."  Nat stops giggling and looks straight down at the ground, ashamed.  "Sorry, Ammy."
  392. [14:53:56] * @Celina spends the lecture time rearranging herself so she doesn't look like she's just had three different heart attacks simultaneously.
  393. [14:54:05] <Natalie> "But there's..."
  394. [14:54:25] * Natalie clears her throat and stands up right again, moving back to the others. "There actually isn't anything here."
  395. [14:54:36] <Natalie> Upright.
  396. [14:55:17] <@Lenore> "W-we thought you got eaten by a snake!"
  397. [14:55:37] * Amaryllis grabs Nat and slowly pulls her closer. "If nothing else, remember this. The first rule is neither of us ever travels alone. Tales are meant to be shared."
  398. [14:55:46] <Natalie> "This place is completely desolate!  There was some boring old treasure, but nothing's living here and it's so BORING."
  399. [14:56:13] * Amaryllis 's voice is stern and quiet, but colored by a twinge of relief.
  400. [14:56:38] * Natalie sighs and nods. "R-Right! I just wanted to... w-well... I'll explain it later."
  401. [14:56:58] <Natalie> "I didn't find any crystal shards here, and that needs to be remedied.  Shall we?"
  402. [14:57:13] * Amaryllis lets go of the not-hug.
  403. [14:57:26] * Natalie subtly winks at Ammy while pulling back.
  404. [14:57:44] * @Celina bristles, shaking a bit as she does her very best to keep from being much harder on the little brat than Amaryllis was.
  405. [14:57:48] <Kaingaskhan> The doors you almost reached throw open of their own accord, though nothing seems to have pushed them. What lays behind in some sort of chamber with a lever on the wall.
  406. [14:58:11] <Kaingaskhan> While back the way you came, the doors slam shut.
  407. [14:58:22] <@Lenore> (PULL THE LEVER, KRONK)
  408. [14:58:29] <Amaryllis> "Then we shall finish this conversation later milady."
  409. [14:58:42] * Natalie prances up to the lever. "Now! It hasn't been NEARLY long enough for you to be missing me. I'm going to pull this."
  410. [14:59:24] <@Lenore> "O-okay!"  She hurries into the chamber, don't want to get left behind by autonomous doors.
  411. [14:59:37] <@Celina> "Absence doesn't always make the heart grow fonder." Twitch. Twitch.
  412. [14:59:44] * Natalie totally just kicks the lever without waiting for any objections.
  413. [14:59:51] <Kaingaskhan> SHK.
  414. [15:00:18] <Natalie> "And besides, I didn't have any trouble by myself."
  415. [15:00:22] <Kaingaskhan> The doors to the chamber slam shut and you suddenly feel the sensation of moving down, like those elevator things they have in Lindblum.
  416. [15:00:48] <@Lenore> "Why doesn't this place have these instead of stairs or poles?"
  417. [15:00:55] * Theta seems confused a bit at the sensation before he gets a hold of what's causing it
  418. [15:01:30] * Natalie stands in the center of the room and headtilts at Lenny. "There weren't stairs and poles when you came in?"
  419. [15:01:36] <Kaingaskhan> The light grows darker and darker as you descend, and soon the only source of lumination is Ammy's lantern. The air is growing thick, too, though you're not sure why. A sort of familiar scent permeates the chamber, but you can't quite place it.
  420. [15:01:39] <Natalie> "Odddddd."
  421. [15:01:56] <@Celina> Can I make a check to place it with superior rat smelling?
  422. [15:01:58] <@Celina> :3c
  423. [15:02:01] <Kaingaskhan> Sure
  424. [15:02:12] <Kaingaskhan> Wait
  425. [15:02:14] <Kaingaskhan> actually
  426. [15:02:17] <Kaingaskhan> you in particular
  427. [15:02:19] <Kaingaskhan> can't
  428. [15:02:23] <@Celina> ok
  429. [15:02:27] <@Celina> v:
  430. [15:02:40] <Kaingaskhan> This scent is unfamiliar to Celina and Theta, more accurately
  431. [15:02:44] * Natalie sniffsniff, then!
  432. [15:02:50] * @Lenore sniffsniff~
  433. [15:02:55] <Kaingaskhan> The chamber finally stops moving
  434. [15:02:56] <Natalie> Sniffsniffsniff- wait, that isn't elegant at all.  Muffled sniffsniff.
  435. [15:03:01] <@Lenore> (Awareness checks?)
  436. [15:03:05] <Kaingaskhan> No need
  437. [15:03:08] * Amaryllis looks over Nat curiously. Does she seen any more worn or roughed up?
  438. [15:03:14] <Kaingaskhan> Not really no
  439. [15:03:18] <Kaingaskhan> Just missing a ribbon
  440. [15:04:23] <Natalie> Her dress might be slightly dirtier than it should be, but no tears or anything.
  441. [15:04:36] <Kaingaskhan> In any case the doors open wide, revealing a large chamber that looks somewhat like a throne room. Many weapon racks line the walls, and a few bookcases sit next to the throne itself. There's an old man sitting there, but perhaps more alarmingly... the entire room is filled with a thick, white fog.
  442. [15:04:53] * Natalie battle stances instinctively.
  443. [15:04:54] <Kaingaskhan> Mist
  444. [15:05:16] <@Lenore> "What?  Oh.  Oh."
  445. [15:05:25] <Natalie> "... Oh."
  446. [15:05:32] <Natalie> "Ahem~!  Excuse us."
  447. [15:05:37] * Amaryllis breathes it in and exhales slowly, as she comes to a realization.
  448. [15:05:59] * Natalie eases up and starts to walk in slowly, glaring at the mist and taking each step with caution.
  449. [15:06:20] * @Lenore walks alongside Natty! She's not going to let Azure walk off away from the group again!
  450. [15:06:22] <Kaingaskhan> Old Man: "Well now, it's been quite a long time since I've had visitors...." the old man is dressed in fine clothes and heavy boots. White hair peeks out over his crownless head.
  451. [15:06:57] <Natalie> "We're only here looking for something.  You don't mind terribly, do you?"
  452. [15:06:59] * @Celina squints into the fog of mist.
  453. [15:07:10] * Theta simply looks around at first, then focuses on the man, not exactly alarmed
  454. [15:07:24] <Kaingaskhan> Old Man: "Normally I wouldn't, but I imagine you're here for something in particular."
  455. [15:07:34] <Kaingaskhan> He reaches into a pocket and produces a shard of faintly orange crystal.
  456. [15:07:42] <Amaryllis> "Mist. Do you create it here, or is it naturally collected in this spot?"
  457. [15:07:42] <@Lenore> "Ah!  Yes, that's it!"
  458. [15:07:48] <Natalie> "Yes, yes, we'll take that and be on our way, thank you."
  459. [15:08:08] <Amaryllis> "Milady, from his words I do not believe he will relinquish it so easily."
  460. [15:08:15] <Theta> "Yes...the...mist, most curious."
  461. [15:08:23] <Kaingaskhan> Old Man: "It's a natural phenomenom, leaking in from caverns far below this castle. As for the crystal, I think not. I can't hand this over to just anyone."
  462. [15:08:27] <Kaingaskhan> He pockets it again.
  463. [15:08:31] <@Celina> "That's a pity."
  464. [15:08:42] <@Lenore> "But we're not just anyone!"
  465. [15:08:44] <Natalie> "Oh, but it was worth a try, wasn't it?  We'll have to strike a deal for it, then."
  466. [15:08:47] <@Lenore> "A-ammy, show him!"
  467. [15:08:49] <@Celina> "I suppose you want something in trade?"
  468. [15:09:00] * Natalie folds her arms and taps her foot.
  469. [15:09:16] <Kaingaskhan> The man laughs a moment. "Material wealth? What use does a dead man have for the treasures of this world?"
  470. [15:09:41] <Natalie> "Of course not!"
  471. [15:09:59] <Kaingaskhan> Man: "No, I have no use for this crystal, but nor do I wish to see it fall into the wrong hands."
  472. [15:10:08] <Natalie> "How about... if my servant can tell you a story more intriguing than any story you've heard before, you give it to us?"
  473. [15:10:15] * Natalie backs up and pushes Ammy forward.
  474. [15:10:32] <Amaryllis> "An exchange of stories then? Perhaps those of the crystal that you lack." Ammy pulls out the fused crystal she's been carrying.
  475. [15:10:38] <Kaingaskhan> Man: "I'm afraid that's unacceptable. Villains are excellent at telling stories, I've found."
  476. [15:10:51] <Kaingaskhan> Man: "Hm, but you possess more of it. Who are you?"
  477. [15:10:58] * Natalie puts hands at her hips and pouts. "Oh, that is SO rude!"
  478. [15:11:09] <Natalie> "If we were villains, we would've simply shattered our crystal by now."
  479. [15:11:12] <Natalie> "Or abandoned it."
  480. [15:11:16] <Natalie> "Or other terrible things."
  481. [15:11:18] * Theta thinks for a bit. "I suppose that is a common trait in them, HRM."
  482. [15:11:25] <Amaryllis> "Introductions are in order then? Amaryllis Middleton, servant to House Aitchison." Ammy nods.
  483. [15:11:27] <@Lenore> "We're those chosen by the Crystal! Erm."
  484. [15:11:31] <@Lenore> "I'm Lenore!"
  485. [15:11:56] <Natalie> "Natalie Ellis Floruna Lazuli Annette-Maria Cynthia Cathaoir Aitchison III.  I pray it's easy enough to remember."
  486. [15:12:02] <Kaingaskhan> Man: "Chosen by the crystal, you say. Hm... I suppose that's possible..."
  487. [15:12:14] <@Celina> "Celina Mirach, of Cleyra."
  488. [15:12:14] <Amaryllis> "And you sir, are...?"
  489. [15:12:21] <Kaingaskhan> Man: "You may call me Baron. It was the name I had in life, before my passing."
  490. [15:12:45] <Natalie> "A man of status, then?"
  491. [15:12:56] <Theta> "Erm, Theta," he says as the others tail off
  492. [15:13:03] <Amaryllis> "And how long ago was that?" Amaryllis walks over to a bookshelf, hand hovered over it. "May I?"
  493. [15:13:06] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "A king, actually. And surprised to find you don't even flinch to discover I'm a ghost."
  494. [15:13:09] * @Lenore nudgenudges Mr. Prickles.
  495. [15:13:14] <Kaingaskhan> Squibble squib.
  496. [15:13:36] * Natalie steps forward and headshakes. "Nonsense, there're much stranger things than ghosts."
  497. [15:13:44] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "The Mist is what allows it... in any case, help yourself if you like." he gestures at the books. "I've read them all several times."
  498. [15:14:09] <@Lenore> "T-there was already evidence of ghosts here!  Well, not really evidence, but..."
  499. [15:14:18] <Amaryllis> "Can it really be called death if you persist in existence so? Something about your tale is unfinished, or you would not have reason to remain." Ammy nods gratefully as she takes a book off the shelf.
  500. [15:14:26] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Yes, I was observing you." he says to Lenore.
  501. [15:14:40] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "But outside of this chamber, my interactions are... limited."
  502. [15:15:00] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "The other residents of the castle seem to have taken interest in you as well."
  503. [15:15:16] <@Celina> "We've noticed."
  504. [15:15:19] <Natalie> "Then allow me to explain, y-your highness," she grumbles a little.  Average nobles can't really beat kings.  "We're repairing the crystal and without your shard, it's likely going to remain incomplete forever.  And we can't have that."
  505. [15:15:26] <Kaingaskhan> The books are antiquated for certain, possibly a thousand years older or more.
  506. [15:15:50] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I see..."
  507. [15:15:50] <Natalie> "Pray tell, might I ask how you'd come by it in the first place?"
  508. [15:16:22] <Theta> "I was under the impression it shattered and simply...fell places."
  509. [15:16:59] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "It arrived with an Eidolon. One 'Carbuncle', who entrusted it to my care."
  510. [15:17:06] * Natalie tenses up.
  511. [15:17:13] <Natalie> "Tell me more."
  512. [15:17:20] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Hmm... that day..."
  513. [15:17:27] <@Celina> "Isn't that convenieeeent, Miss Natalie."
  514. [15:17:30] <Kaingaskhan> Baron muses thoughtfully.
  515. [15:17:35] * Amaryllis takes out her journal to record the story.
  516. [15:17:45] * @Lenore listens quietly.
  517. [15:17:52] <Natalie> "Silence, I doubt you even know what that means!"
  518. [15:18:10] * Natalie sticks a tongue out at the rat and takes a step closer to the Baron-King.
  519. [15:19:09] <Amaryllis> "How long ago did the crystal fall into your care?"
  520. [15:20:14] <@Celina> "I think it means you're killing two birds with one stone here, as it were."
  521. [15:20:19] * @Celina yawns.
  522. [15:20:41] <Natalie> "Mmmmmmaybe nnnnot."
  523. [15:21:05] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "It was about... nine years ago now, I think. I let my form wander through the castle, as I sometimes do, but one day in particular I happened upon a green, cat-like creature with a jewel embedded in its forehead. Carbuncle, the eidolon called itself. We could communicate, even in the state I was in. It seems that its summoner had entrusted it with a very important mission before
  524. [15:21:05] <Kaingaskhan> releasing it from her service, but... the eidolon was distraught to inform me it had forgotten its task. Its only clue was the piece of crystal it carried with it. I'm sure the creature felt helpless, and asked me to guard the piece of crystal while it recovered within my castle. One day, some years later, it was gone without a trace."
  525. [15:21:26] <Natalie> "..."
  526. [15:21:48] * Natalie turns around. "The shard is safe here. We can come back for it later."
  527. [15:22:03] <Theta> "Odd thing to simply forget."
  528. [15:22:05] <@Lenore> "But then we can't find out more from the crystal!"
  529. [15:22:11] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I didn't say I wouldn't give it to you. It's just..."
  530. [15:22:22] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I need to be certain you are who you say you are, chosen by the crystal."
  531. [15:22:47] <Amaryllis> "Then let the crystal itself tell our tale." Ammy returns from the bookshelf, having picked out a few interesting tomes.
  532. [15:22:48] <@Celina> "And how do we prove ourselves?"
  533. [15:22:58] <@Lenore> "Ammy has the right idea!"
  534. [15:23:19] <Natalie> "No, no, if... if that eidolon told you that was their mission, it's certainly more important than ours."
  535. [15:23:24] * Amaryllis holds up the crystal bit she has up toward the Baron, staring straight in his eyes. "One needs simply tap the two together, and they shall form a whole."
  536. [15:23:27] * Natalie turns back around shakily.
  537. [15:23:44] <Kaingaskhan> Baron considers, staring into your chunk of crystal.
  538. [15:24:01] <@Celina> "Don't tell me you're scared now, Miss Natalie?"
  539. [15:24:03] <Natalie> "But..."
  540. [15:24:09] <Natalie> Headshake headshake.
  541. [15:24:22] <@Celina> "You were fine with running off on your own into this death trap - yet you cower when courage actually matters?"
  542. [15:24:24] <Amaryllis> "Milady, it will be okay." Ammy doesn't turn away from the Baron's face even as she speaks to Nat.
  543. [15:24:25] <Natalie> "Okay, please allow us to let the crystals interact.  Er... please."
  544. [15:24:55] <Kaingaskhan> Baron considers a moment more, then nods, taking the crystal piece out of his pocket and touching it to yours.
  545. [15:25:20] <Kaingaskhan> They fuse together, after a moment, and glow brightly, gaining a blue shimmer! The brightness persists for a few moments, then fades, silently.
  546. [15:25:22] * Natalie approaches and outstretches a hand to be close to the crystal while this happens.
  547. [15:25:43] * @Lenore stares into the crystal as it fuses.
  548. [15:26:56] * @Celina still keeps her distance.
  549. [15:27:40] * Amaryllis carefully sets the fused crystal on a table and stares into it as well, her hands reaching for her pen and journal.
  550. [15:28:20] <Kaingaskhan> The crystal glimmers silently.
  551. [15:28:34] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "You said it speaks? ...It may be my age but I don't hear anything."
  552. [15:28:49] <@Celina> "Nor do I."
  553. [15:28:51] <@Lenore> "It hasn't said anything yet..."
  554. [15:28:58] * Natalie closes her eyes, grunting.
  555. [15:29:16] <@Celina> "Perhaps it is the influence of the mist? I do not know."
  556. [15:29:34] <Amaryllis> "It has every other time." Amaryllis taps at it.
  557. [15:29:47] <Natalie> "Even still..."  Headshake.  "No, you imbeciles, it's because you haven't asked it any questions yet!"
  558. [15:30:28] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "...perhaps... hm. Well, I suppose I can't really keep it from you now, that crystal is by majority yours. Still, I wonder, perhaps a test is in order..."
  559. [15:30:46] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "If you are the chosen warriors, I would test your strength."
  560. [15:30:48] <Natalie> "Nnnnnnnn."
  561. [15:31:06] <@Celina> "I can't help but notice that no one in this room has asked questions of it. How rude to call our host an imbecile."
  562. [15:31:13] * Natalie looks pained, but throws herself upright. "O... Okay."
  563. [15:31:16] <@Celina> "If you would test me, I shall not falter."
  564. [15:31:27] <@Lenore> "Hey, wait."
  565. [15:31:30] <Theta> (brb phone)
  566. [15:31:30] <@Lenore> "Everyone hold up!"
  567. [15:31:32] * @Celina 's voice shakes a little as she says it, however.
  568. [15:31:33] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I'll wait for you to ask it questions if you like."
  569. [15:31:48] <@Lenore> "You said you wouldn't test us with a story because villains were good at stories, right?"
  570. [15:32:03] <@Lenore> "Then why are you challenging us at a fight?  Villains are good at fights, too!"
  571. [15:32:14] <Natalie> "... But aren't heroes good at those, too?"
  572. [15:32:15] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Because a warrior's heart is revealed in battle."
  573. [15:32:38] * Natalie headtilts and headshakes. "Either way, I don't have any questions. Only one thing to tell you before we begin, Baron."
  574. [15:32:49] <Amaryllis> "What twists and turns lie ahead in our tale?" oh why not, Ammy faces the crystal and speaks.
  575. [15:32:55] <Kaingaskhan> No response, Ammy.
  576. [15:33:00] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Hm?"
  577. [15:33:08] <Natalie> "You're a good man," she says with a slightly goofy smile.
  578. [15:33:17] <Kaingaskhan> Baron smiles a little bit. "Thank you."
  579. [15:33:30] <Natalie> "Now!"
  580. [15:33:31] <Kaingaskhan> Baron pauses and then stands, thinking as he looks between the weapons on the various racks.
  581. [15:33:36] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Before we begin..."
  582. [15:33:38] * Natalie gets in BATTLESTANCE.
  583. [15:33:44] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Does one of you by chance, have a butter knife?"
  584. [15:33:55] * @Celina raises an eyebrow.
  585. [15:33:58] <Natalie> Eyes slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly turn to Ammy.
  586. [15:34:24] <Amaryllis> (have buncha fluff kitchen items. Butter knife in there?)
  587. [15:34:28] <Kaingaskhan> Sure
  588. [15:34:57] * Amaryllis unwraps a set of kitchen utensils in her bag and slowly hands over a butter knife.
  589. [15:35:04] <Amaryllis> "Whatever for?"
  590. [15:35:14] <Kaingaskhan> Baron takes it gingerly, and stares at it a moment, before nodding, and taking a battle stance.
  591. [15:35:31] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I will need to fight at my fullest to gauge your true strength."
  592. [15:35:39] <@Celina> "Do you mean to insult us, sir?"
  593. [15:35:52] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "This castle is enchanted, though not obviously so."
  594. [15:35:56] <Amaryllis> "Shall we fight with kitchenware as well?" Amaryllis takes out her own kitchen knife, looking confused.
  595. [15:36:13] <@Lenore> "A-ah!  I...I think I've heard of this..."
  596. [15:36:19] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "The strength of a weapon is in its weakness. This butter knife is a legendary sword in this castle."
  597. [15:36:33] <Natalie> "So that means bare hands..."
  598. [15:36:47] <Kaingaskhan> Ipsen's Castle effect!
  599. [15:36:55] <Kaingaskhan> Tier 1 weapons become tier 8! Tier 2 becomes 7, and so on!
  600. [15:37:03] <@Celina> "I'm afraid I understand very little."
  601. [15:37:07] <@Celina> (oh boyyyy)
  602. [15:37:07] <Natalie> (What about tier NOTHING?)
  603. [15:37:26] <Natalie> (no wait, x1 would make it 1 I guess)
  604. [15:37:26] <Kaingaskhan> Nnnn tier 8 still
  605. [15:37:32] <Natalie> (Disregard me~)
  606. [15:37:33] <@Lenore> "And a legendary sword in this castle becomes a dull butterknife."
  607. [15:37:47] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "That is correct."
  608. [15:38:01] <Theta> (and back)
  609. [15:38:12] <Natalie> "Hmm... okay!"
  610. [15:38:20] <Kaingaskhan> He swings the knife behind him, cutting his throne in half. "Now, engarde!"
  611. [15:38:49] <@Lenore> (...part of me is curious how that would work with Kaiten)
  612. [15:39:11] <Natalie> (Oh yeah, that doesn't affect spells too, does it?)
  613. [15:39:22] <@Celina> (spells don't have tiers v:)
  614. [15:39:30] <@Lenore> (^)
  615. [15:39:30] <Natalie> (well they kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda do)
  616. [15:39:33] <@Celina> (and no, just weapons in ffix)
  617. [15:39:41] <Natalie> (Technically unarmed isn't a tier either!  But yeah okay just had to make sure~)
  618. [15:40:31] <Theta> (So what biomes is this castle anyway?)
  619. [15:40:47] <Kaingaskhan> Town
  620. [15:40:51] <Theta> Theta laughs awkwardly as the watches the ghost slice a throne in half with a butter knife, drawing his sword.
  621. [15:40:58] <Kaingaskhan> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_F2O-TkH3I
  622. [15:41:09] <Kaingaskhan> COMBAT
  623. [15:41:12] <Kaingaskhan> Celina!
  624. [15:41:35] <Natalie> (Oh dear, what skipped Ammy?)
  625. [15:41:39] <Amaryllis> (;-;)
  626. [15:41:45] <Kaingaskhan> Oops
  627. [15:41:47] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy!
  628. [15:41:58] <Natalie> (kain't be this forgetful etc)
  629. [15:42:18] * Amaryllis sloughs off her bag and stands upright, lunging forward to stab the Baron with her knife.
  630. [15:42:25] <Amaryllis> 2d6+3
  631. [15:42:26] <DiceMaid-9001> Amaryllis, 2d6+3: 8 [2d6=2,3]
  632. [15:42:39] <@Lenore> (Too bad my Tier 1 doesn't have Thunderstrike)
  633. [15:42:45] <Kaingaskhan> He dodges easily.
  634. [15:42:48] <Kaingaskhan> Celina!

  741. [15:55:13] <Kaingaskhan> but that probably still hits?
  742. [15:55:33] <Natalie> (I think we're still at a level where 9 is a ridiculous amount of avd)
  743. [15:55:35] <Theta> (Funny enough I believe Theta is the only one who can dodge this, through use of Third Eye.)
  744. [15:55:47] <@Celina> yeah I'm down
  745. [15:55:54] <@Celina> thank god there's no DSTS

  756. [15:56:59] <Amaryllis> (oh...right, did we ALL have phoenix downs? I sorta remember us getting a limited number that we handed around, but I'm not sure)
  757. [15:57:02] <Amaryllis> (lemme check my sheet :B)
  758. [15:57:08] <Natalie> (sup Ga- wait I can't say that here)

  760. [15:57:18] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "But in the final charge against their king... As I waved my sword above my head, a bolt of lightning struck me dead."
  761. [15:57:34] <Natalie> (I DO believe we each got one, yeah)
  762. [15:57:35] <Kaingaskhan> Lenore!
  763. [15:57:38] * @Lenore finishes her spell. "I'm sorry I have to do this but...spirits of the sky, rain down upon the one who would challenge me! Thunder!"
  764. [15:57:41] <Natalie> (regardless I'm pretty sure none of us had two)

  767. [15:58:13] <@Lenore> 219 damage
  768. [15:58:14] <Kaingaskhan> A bolt of lightning runs through the knife, sending Baron staggering!
  769. [15:58:16] <Amaryllis> "A tale worth preserving. I shall keep it alive for you, if you would tell me more after this."
  770. [15:58:26] <Kaingaskhan> He stands up again, weakly.
  771. [15:58:34] <Natalie> "Let me try too!"

  777. [15:59:13] <Natalie> "Special techniwhaaaugh!"
  778. [15:59:21] * Natalie rolls on the ground.
  779. [15:59:24] * @Lenore begins chanting again, of course.

  784. [16:00:57] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "My people honored me here, in this vestige from another world... My name lost to time, but not my deeds."
  785. [16:01:12] <Kaingaskhan> Miss.
  786. [16:01:27] <Kaingaskhan> He moves to jab at Lenore this time!
  787. [16:01:29] <Amaryllis> "You are of Terra?"
  788. [16:01:29] <Kaingaskhan> 2d6+10
  789. [16:01:30] <DiceMaid-9001> Kaingaskhan, 2d6+10: 21 [2d6=6,5]

  792. [16:01:49] <Natalie> (and then lenny was in pieces)
  793. [16:01:58] <Amaryllis> (...and I was just about to say "can you imagine if that was a reach weapon?")
  794. [16:02:29] <Kaingaskhan> Baron spins the knife around in his fingers then jabs the hilt into Lenore's stomach.
  795. [16:02:36] <Kaingaskhan> "Hilt" on a butterknife.
  796. [16:02:46] * Natalie grimaces a bit.
  797. [16:03:11] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I once fought with both spear and sword. I was a fearless leader of my people. Now? Hah, I don't have anything now."
  798. [16:03:23] * @Lenore goes wide-eyed, as time seems to stop before the hilt slams into her stomach, a pained gasp coming out before she collapses on the ground.
  799. [16:04:20] <Theta> "Are you SURE that is a simple butter knife?  I say it might as well be the executioner's axe!"
  800. [16:04:33] * Amaryllis steps back. "Your tale will live on. Is that not enough?" (holding action to see if Theta can finish this or not)
  801. [16:04:36] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy!
  802. [16:04:52] <Natalie> (I'm gonna totally go for broke then)
  803. [16:04:58] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Sometimes a tale living on does more harm than good."
  804. [16:05:03] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Doubly in my case."
  805. [16:05:06] * Natalie takes another deep breath. "Special Art!"

  811. [16:05:34] <Amaryllis> "Humanity learns from the sad tales as well."
  812. [16:05:42] <Natalie> That's... what's 9+64
  813. [16:05:46] <Natalie> 75 damage.

  817. [16:06:10] * Natalie pulls back and roundhouses him in the face, just to make it cooler.

  824. [16:06:35] <DiceMaid-9001> Theta, PLASSSMA: 13 [2d6=5,6]
  825. [16:06:38] <Kaingaskhan> YUP
  826. [16:06:50] <Theta> (funny enough in this enviornment a maelstorm would do less dmg anyway, I think.)
  827. [16:07:01] <Theta> (264 damage)
  828. [16:07:09] <Kaingaskhan> Baron has the wind knocked out of him as he tries to say something to Amaryllis.
  829. [16:07:20] <Kaingaskhan> And he collapses to one knee, wheezing.
  830. [16:07:28] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I yield. I can see the light in your hearts."
  831. [16:07:33] * Natalie stomps the ground and exhales.
  832. [16:07:43] * Amaryllis relaxes visibly and quickly moves to help up the others.
  833. [16:07:48] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "But... young lady..."
  834. [16:07:52] <Natalie> "It was a good exercise!  Permission to help my comrades?"
  835. [16:07:55] <Theta> Theta puts the lasershootingsword away.  "Well that escalated quickly."
  836. [16:07:59] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "It is when the tales take life of their own that one must beware."
  837. [16:08:21] * Amaryllis looks him in the eye and nods. "I am well aware."
  838. [16:08:34] * Natalie starts kicking the others awake, slightly more gently than last time.
  839. [16:08:42] <Kaingaskhan> 0 exp
  840. [16:08:43] <Kaingaskhan> 0 gil

  843. [16:08:54] <Kaingaskhan> 2 destiny
  844. [16:08:54] <Natalie> And then goes over to patch up the Baron himself, finding it odd now considering he's a ghost.
  845. [16:09:03] <Natalie> "I was gentle."
  846. [16:09:10] <Kaingaskhan> Your hands pass right through him, now that he's not in combat.
  847. [16:09:21] <Kaingaskhan> He chuckles a little, and hands the butter knife back over to Amaryllis.
  848. [16:09:28] <@Celina> (body and soul doesn't work on unconscious people 3:)
  849. [16:09:34] * @Lenore groans. There's a PUDDLE of tears where she was on the ground that becomes visible as she gets up.
  850. [16:09:37] <Kaingaskhan> CELINA GETS HEALED ANYWAY
  851. [16:09:37] <Natalie> (Actually I THINK it's supposed to)
  852. [16:09:51] * Amaryllis takes it back and very carefully rolls it up in cloth to put away.
  853. [16:09:56] <Natalie> (Oh no you're right, it says conscious)
  854. [16:09:59] <Natalie> (wow I NEVER noticed that)
  855. [16:10:10] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Take the crystal. Go, and do what's needed of you, chosen ones. ...I have a favor to ask, though."
  856. [16:10:16] <@Celina> "Name it."
  857. [16:10:17] <Amaryllis> (but you get restored to 1 HP and consciousness when battle is over)
  858. [16:10:21] <Amaryllis> (Which is why it works)
  859. [16:10:23] <Natalie> (oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)
  860. [16:10:29] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "The sword I was carrying when I was struck by that bolt of lightning..."
  861. [16:10:38] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "If you find my steel-bladed sword, please, bring it back to me."
  862. [16:10:43] <@Celina> (but if that were the case, why would they specifically mention conscious allies)
  863. [16:10:50] <Natalie> (yeah, I find that kinda weird; oh well)
  864. [16:10:54] <@Celina> "...Would you be so kind as to answer a question for me?"
  865. [16:10:56] <Natalie> (Also that counts as a boss fight, right?)
  866. [16:11:00] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Of course."
  867. [16:11:03] <@Celina> (then again this book is editing.jpg)
  868. [16:11:03] <Amaryllis> "A fitting finale."
  869. [16:11:14] <@Celina> "Know you anything of the beast known as Odin?"
  870. [16:11:15] <Theta> (Dust wasn't thinking or something?)
  871. [16:11:21] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "...."
  872. [16:11:21] <Theta> (It's filled with inconsistant wording.)
  873. [16:11:31] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Odin is..."
  874. [16:11:32] <Natalie> (Well, I think it's like, if there are multiple consecutive battles or something, Iunno)
  875. [16:11:45] * @Lenore does her best to look presentable, but oh god ow.
  876. [16:11:47] <@Celina> (yeah like I said editing.jpg)
  877. [16:12:14] * @Celina gets shakily to her feet and tries to look determined, though the tail lashing around behind her belies how nervous she is. "He is..."
  878. [16:12:38] * Natalie wordlessly patches the rat's wounds up while she's getting all hype.
  879. [16:12:59] * Amaryllis grabs the pile of books from before and gingerly lowers herself into a chair. Healing helped with the most of it, but fuck that hurt and she wants some rest. "Baron, do you mind if we strain your hospitality just a while longer?"
  880. [16:14:00] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "My name forgotten, they gave me a new one, 'Odin Allslayer'... The tales took on a life of their own, and became an Eidolon. With my original name forgotten... it is a beast separate from me, its own heart and soul lost. And the reason I urge caution when it comes to collecting stories... for if one is not careful, it can strike great tragedy."
  881. [16:14:28] <@Lenore> "...a-ah..."
  882. [16:14:51] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "If you seek Odin, I urge you caution. It is merciless."
  883. [16:14:58] * @Celina draws her lashknife and charges (limps, more like it) forward.
  884. [16:15:10] <Natalie> "Hmm, I see, no wonder you're so kind.  All the not-kindness you had in you became him?"
  885. [16:15:15] * Natalie steps on Celina's tail.
  886. [16:15:25] <Amaryllis> "And grea-..." Ammy refrains from adding her opinion here, catching herself.
  887. [16:15:39] <Kaingaskhan> Baron watches you as you limp forward.
  888. [16:16:00] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "You have the look in your eyes. It's come your way as well, hasn't it." he says softly.
  889. [16:17:08] * @Celina yanks her tail free, gives Natalie a look and continues foward, wobbling as she goes. "That creature destroyed the only home I have ever had."
  890. [16:18:05] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "...I am sorry. But what could I do? I had no way of knowing my prowess in battle would later become... that."
  891. [16:18:12] * Natalie pushes on the tail harder. "Are you deaf? That creature isn't actually him anymore, I highly doubt he can take him back."
  892. [16:18:31] <Natalie> "Does 'a beast separate from me' mean nothing to you?"
  893. [16:18:48] <Kaingaskhan> Baron thinks a moment: "If you seek to destroy it, it probably shares my aversion to lightning." he offers helpfully.
  894. [16:18:53] <@Celina> 2d6+3 lightning breath on Natalie
  895. [16:18:54] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, lightning breath on Natalie: 13 [2d6=5,5]
  896. [16:19:02] <@Celina> opposed finesse please
  897. [16:19:09] <Natalie> 2d6+5 sure!
  898. [16:19:10] <DiceMaid-9001> Natalie, sure!: 11 [2d6=1,5]
  899. [16:19:11] <@Celina> 2d6+4
  900. [16:19:12] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, 2d6+4: 10 [2d6=2,4]
  901. [16:19:15] * @Lenore !
  902. [16:19:17] <@Celina> darn, no solence
  903. [16:19:27] <@Celina> anyway that's 21 damage
  904. [16:19:36] <Amaryllis> "Celina! Control yourself." Ammy seemed lost in thought for a bit but snaps back.
  905. [16:19:41] * Natalie endures with a more serious determination in her eyes, making sure to get a good stomp on the tail.
  906. [16:19:45] <@Lenore> "Celly!  No!"
  907. [16:19:52] <@Celina> "Stop that!"
  908. [16:20:00] <Amaryllis> "Both of you!"
  909. [16:20:06] <Natalie> "Listen to me.  What you're doing isn't going to accomplish anything."
  910. [16:20:09] * Amaryllis also gives a look at Nat's foot.
  911. [16:20:15] * @Celina turns to beat the everliving shit out of the person following her around to stomp on her tail :I
  912. [16:20:16] <Kaingaskhan> Mr. Prickles jumps between the two of you and tries to shove you apart.
  913. [16:20:22] <Theta> "Am I going to have to ask the walls of this structure to seperate you?"
  914. [16:20:25] <@Celina> "Neither will suffering you to live!"
  915. [16:20:30] <Theta> "This is complete nonsense."
  916. [16:20:47] <Kaingaskhan> Baron sighs and has a seat back on his cloven throne.
  917. [16:20:47] <Natalie> "Reaaaaally now?  I'm only telling you to calm yourself."
  918. [16:21:05] * Natalie lets the foot up when apparent the rat isn't trying to beat up the friendly ghost anymore.
  919. [16:21:36] <@Celina> 2d6+3
  920. [16:21:36] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "While there is a great light in your hearts... I'm also concerned. A great darkness threatens to consume more than one of you as well."
  921. [16:21:37] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, 2d6+3: 11 [2d6=3,5]
  922. [16:21:52] * @Celina spits another burst of lightning at Natalie.
  923. [16:21:59] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles jumps in the way!
  924. [16:22:04] <Kaingaskhan> Cover!
  925. [16:22:09] <Kaingaskhan> z-zzzzap
  926. [16:22:11] <Kaingaskhan> thud
  927. [16:22:16] * Theta looks to the Baron, "In the mean time while they resolve this..."
  928. [16:22:18] * @Lenore glares at Celly. "Do that again and I'll show you a real lightning strike!"
  929. [16:22:18] <Natalie> "... You really are a fool."
  930. [16:22:21] <Theta> "You mentioned this castle is of another world?"
  931. [16:22:40] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Yes but I think you have more pressing concerns right now."
  932. [16:22:48] <Natalie> "I was going to say we'd like to help you, you know?"
  933. [16:23:00] * Natalie bends down and picks up the cactuar, chanting some healstuffs.
  934. [16:23:02] <@Celina> "I shall not her continue to insult me - and my home - without recourse!"
  935. [16:23:06] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles twitches, crackling with electricity.
  936. [16:23:06] <Amaryllis> "Theta, you may wish to make good on your threat." Ammy reaches in her bag for the whiskey and takes a swig.
  937. [16:23:11] <@Celina> 2d6+3
  938. [16:23:12] <DiceMaid-9001> Celina, 2d6+3: 14 [2d6=5,6]
  939. [16:23:17] <@Celina> critical!
  940. [16:23:25] <Natalie> "And just what am I insulting?  That man ISN'T your en- oof!"
  941. [16:23:30] * Theta sighs, putting a hand to the wall, and asking it to literally cut off the two combatents from one another.
  942. [16:23:45] <Kaingaskhan> Breaths don't benefit from reach weapons' critical attack
  943. [16:23:59] <@Lenore> 2d6+1 Lenore attempts to tackle Celina!
  944. [16:23:59] <DiceMaid-9001> Lenore, Lenore attempts to tackle Celina!: 6 [2d6=1,4]
  945. [16:24:24] <@Lenore> ...maybe opposed force might be necessary, I dunno'
  946. [16:24:27] <@Celina> (why wouldn't they? they require a weapon roll)
  947. [16:24:30] <@Celina> (roll)
  948. [16:24:41] <@Celina> (oh I spelled that right the first time)
  949. [16:25:02] <Kaingaskhan> You!may!perform!either!of!the!attacks!listed!below!as!a!Standard!action.!They!require!a!successful!attack!roll,!but!
  950. [16:25:02] <Kaingaskhan> cannot!be!a!critical!hit!and!do!not!use!a!weapon.&
  951. [16:25:07] <@Celina> (oh derp)
  952. [16:25:10] <Natalie> (herp)
  953. [16:25:11] <Kaingaskhan> do not use a weapon
  954. [16:25:14] <Kaingaskhan> and can't be crits anyway
  955. [16:25:24] * @Celina skips out of Lenore's way and closes in on Natalie, ratclaws bared.
  956. [16:25:33] * Natalie has monster M.ARM and keeps enduring.
  957. [16:25:36] * @Lenore flumphs on the ground
  958. [16:25:48] * @Lenore gets up and starts chanting.
  959. [16:26:02] <Natalie> "I'm not going to fight you."
  960. [16:26:12] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles keeps jumping in your way, Celina.
  961. [16:26:31] <Theta> (Did my geotrance not work or ?)
  962. [16:26:37] * @Celina keeps on gently shoving Prickles away with her foot
  963. [16:26:43] <Kaingaskhan> Mr. Prickles: "Please get a hold of yourself! A dragon knight does not behave in this fashion!"
  964. [16:27:00] <Kaingaskhan> He manages to distract her long enough for Theta to bring up a wall.
  965. [16:27:05] <@Celina> "A dragon knight does not allow such filth to exist-"
  966. [16:27:07] <@Celina> Thunk.
  967. [16:27:08] * Amaryllis steps forward and grabs Nat's hand, roughly shoving the girl behind her protectively.
  968. [16:27:28] * @Lenore is on the same side of the wall as Celina, presumably.
  969. [16:27:34] * @Celina 's rampage ends in a rather undignified manner as she crashes into the wall and falls back.
  970. [16:27:49] <Kaingaskhan> Mr. Prickles: "You are behaving like a rage-filled child, Ms. Celina, please calm yourself."
  971. [16:27:54] <Amaryllis> "Bloody hell..." She lets go and takes another swig of whiskey.
  972. [16:27:58] <@Lenore> (Good thing.  I was gonna' have Lenore cast Hex :/)
  973. [16:28:19] * Theta makes a door for himself that disapeers behind him and walks back over to the Baron. "Now, then."
  974. [16:28:21] <Natalie> "Don't worry, Ammy," she says with a playful smile, "I understand why she's so mad."
  975. [16:28:53] <Amaryllis> "Please understand too why that does not make it a good idea to provoke her."
  976. [16:29:11] <Kaingaskhan> Mr. Prickles: "I have nothing but a high opinion of you, and I do not wish to have that tarnished due to behavior as petty as this. Acting like this, it's -beneath you-, and you know it."
  977. [16:29:11] * Natalie clears her throat and faces the Baron again. "Apologies. We'd probably best take our leave now before there are any more outbursts, yes?"
  978. [16:29:16] <@Celina> "You have learned nothing, Miss Amaryllis!"
  979. [16:29:21] * @Celina turns to go.
  980. [16:29:31] <@Lenore> "M-miss Celina!  No, please don't..."
  981. [16:29:41] <@Celina> "That thing would lead you to your death, and still you do nothing!"
  982. [16:29:44] <@Celina> "Has it broken you that badly?"
  983. [16:29:52] <Amaryllis> "Pray tell Baron, is there one among us who does not risk falling to darkness? It is the temptation that faces all who are burdened with a story such as ours, is it not?"
  984. [16:30:14] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "You may have a point."
  985. [16:30:52] * @Celina stomps out.
  986. [16:31:05] <Natalie> "Nnnnn."
  987. [16:31:05] <@Lenore> "A-ah..."
  988. [16:31:15] * Natalie looks to Lenny. "Could you go keep her in line? Please?"
  989. [16:31:33] <@Lenore> "A-ah, sure!  I'll go with her!"  She runs after her.
  990. [16:31:34] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I should have known better than to let the truth slip so easily..."
  991. [16:31:53] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "There is nothing but tragedy in some tales. Let this be another lesson."
  992. [16:32:16] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Good fortune to you all. I only hope that one day, the young lady will forgive me for what I inadvertently spawned."
  993. [16:32:25] <Natalie> "You aren't at fault, Baron.  I can apologize to her when she calms down, that isn't a problem.  But..."
  994. [16:32:31] * Amaryllis takes a long pause before responding. "Sometimes, a tragedy is the best way for a story to end."
  995. [16:32:42] <Kaingaskhan> Prickles follows Lenore out.
  996. [16:32:51] <Natalie> "Sir Beta, I'm worried, could you go make sure she doesn't her herself too?"
  997. [16:33:08] <Natalie> -her +hurt
  998. [16:33:51] <Kaingaskhan> (So how long did it take you guys to figure out he was Odin)
  999. [16:33:53] <Theta> "She does not trust me or my race, so I do not see what I could do to quell her anger," shrug.
1000. [16:33:56] <Amaryllis> "...And on another note, do you happen to have a jar? It is rare to see Mist around anymore, and I would like to bring some on my travels. A token of nostalgia."
1001. [16:34:03] <Natalie> "Hmm, well maybe your abilities..."
1002. [16:34:56] <Amaryllis> (at the lightning striking the sword, which was probably when you expected us to :P)
  1003. [16:35:36] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "A jar..."
1004. [16:35:41] <Theta> (Not until you said so actually, figured it was Garland maybe but then thought Ispen.)
  1005. [16:35:45] <Natalie> (^)
  1006. [16:36:09] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Hm...."
1007. [16:36:16] * Natalie gives Theta a suspiciously sweet face. "Pretty please?"
1008. [16:36:30] <Theta> (I'm still waiting for the answer to my question V:)
  1009. [16:37:05] <Natalie> (can't blame him for gettin' distracted)
  1010. [16:37:19] <Kaingaskhan> (I don't see a question D=)
1011. [16:37:53] <Theta> (I asked about this other world, and you misdirected it cause of the scuffle :B)
1012. [16:37:54] <Natalie> ([16:22:21] <Theta> "You mentioned this castle is of another world?")
1013. [16:38:28] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "I'm afraid I don't have anything of the like. An urn, perhaps, but with no way to seal the lid it would be ineffectual indeed."
1014. [16:38:37] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "And now, the young gentleman's question..."
  1015. [16:38:42] <@Lenore> (TOO BAD LENORE LEFT)
  1016. [16:38:49] <@Lenore> (Bottomless pockets.)
1017. [16:38:52] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "As I understand it, this castle originally came from Terra."
1018. [16:38:57] * Natalie produces a potion. "Would it work if we emptied this?"
  1019. [16:39:14] <Kaingaskhan> A potion bottle would suffice.
1020. [16:39:42] * Natalie begins unsealing the potion, then. Good thing she got lightninged by like... 5 damage.
  1021. [16:40:21] <Natalie> CHUG.  "Here."
1022. [16:40:27] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "Not a name known to by many people, for sure, but we had our ways."
1023. [16:40:43] <Amaryllis> "Thank you milady." Ammy tries to capture some of the Mist in the bottle.
1024. [16:40:59] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "The functions of the mechanisms here or the very purpose of this castle still aren't well understood by me."
1025. [16:41:20] <Kaingaskhan> Baron: "So it stands, a forgotten testament to ages gone by, much like myself."
1026. [16:42:04] * Theta looks to the walls and such. "Not known by many indeed, which is what I found peculiar. Granted, given your...disposition, I suppose it is not too surprising. Hm."
1027. [16:43:06] <Theta> "Curious indeed...." He thinks on it as he walks over to the ratside.
  1028. [16:43:15] <Kaingaskhan> aaaand /session for now?
  1029. [16:43:20] <Kaingaskhan> Ammy gets a bottleful of mist
