  2. MONEYBALL PROJECT
  3. In the movie Moneyball the story is told around Billy Beane. The movie starts with Billy being a top prospect and given a contract right out of high school. He accepts it instead of going to college and getting a degree then going to the MLB. That’s a big risk for any ball player that comes out of high school because if you don’t make it, now you have a degree and no job. Billy’s situation is a little different because he was the five star prospect and they thought of him to be big in baseball so he got a job as a GM (general manager). Billy is struggling to keep his team with high prospects so he tries to buy some from other baseball organizations. This is where he finds his golden egg Peter after he takes a trip to visit another GM in hope of a new player. Peter mentions to Billy how the OBP (on base percentage) and other players scoring percentage should be the foundation of how you create your team. Billy listens to him but the coach of his team wasn’t playing the players in the positons how he wanted. The coach didn’t agree because he the players weren’t prospects and the players he bought were cheap. After some losses Billy gave the team a pep talk and normally he doesn’t talk to the players so that it’s easy to cut them if needed. After the pep talk he began to talk to some of the player’s individually about what they do right statically and how they can help the team. But on the road of helping the team he traded the players for better players to help him secure a win. This started the teams win streak after the coach began playing the team how Billy wanted. They were one game away from the going to the playoffs and Billy’s new way of how the game of baseball is looked at would change everything. Even though they didn’t make the opportunity to win the world series the Red Sox seen how Billy changed the game and wanted to make him the offer of being the highest paid GM in baseball history. But Billy didn’t accept the offer because he was superstitious since he made his last decision based on money and that costed him a lot. At the beginning of the movie all the announcer and sports news said that Billy was messing up and wouldn’t last. Billy shut the up when he got the highest baseball win streak in baseball history. In this movie I learned that statistics can aid you to making a team and buying a known player is not important in winning. For one it saves the GM money and the chemistry of the team builds which can lead to wins.
