  1. Honduras Chaos
  2. Honduras, a little country located in Central America, has been making headlines all over the world, due to the coup perpetrated by military forces against the constitutional President, Manuel Zelaya, giving the power to one of the oposition leaders, Roberto Micheletti, something that has been condemned by several countries.
  3. Before drawing conclusions about this situation, we have to look back and see both points of view; on one hand, we have the pro-government, Zelaya's followers, who want him back no matter what, and well, they are certainly right, Zelaya should be able to finish his term of office, because he was chosen by the people. On the other hand, there is the de-facto government lead by Micheletti (with the obvious help of the armed forces) who refuses to give up the power that he doesn't deserve, even though organizations such as the OEA have expelled Honduras and many countries have said that they would not recognize any President other than Zelaya, who was ousted by an illegal coup.
  4. Now, there is something that has yet to be recognize is the root of the problem. Before his meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez there was never any mention of Zelaya's socialistic beliefs, nevertheless, it was clear to Zelaya that an alliance between them would be financially beneficial.
  5. It is a well known fact that Chavez recently won a Referendum, enabling him to be re-elected for an indefinite number of terms. Zelaya, in an attempt to do the same disregarded the Congressional opinion and tried to take a poll of the people's opinion leading to his demise.
  6. Still wearing his pajamas, Zelaya was kidnapped and taken out of the country, and a few hours later a new de-facto government was established, and after two weeks nothing much has changed, Micheletti is still in power. The situation was getting more out of control last Sunday, when Zelaya tried to re-entered the country. Thousands of people were waiting for his arrival at the Tegucigalpa airport, when the armed forces began a vicious attack resulting in the dead of two people.
  7. Hopefully for Honduras and its people there will be a quick and peaceful resolution to this problem.
