  1. TURN 14.5
  2.
  3.
  4. West Shangur
  5. Dean Caballero
  6. Government: Merchant Republic
  7. Retinue: Lord Protector Bian Melnik (LN A, 17), Spymaster Yan Vitomir (NE, A, 16) Admiral Pyong Chreska (TN B, 13), High Trader Bapu Saheb (CN B, 13)
  8. Religion: Zoroastrian
  9. Language: Shangurian
  10. Institutions: Practiced Sailors, Republican Legacy, Refuge of Loyalists
  11. Relations: Berabia and Hejaz: Embargo
  12. Elousi: Friendly
  13. Military: Late Medieval
  14. Issues: Ilkhanate Dominion, Mazdak trade blockade, Religious Disputes
  15. While west Shangur is for all practical purposes independent, the Ilkhanate is prone to treating it like a particularly difficult autonomous territory or a vassal that has not yet realised it's place, bribes and tribute are often needed to prevent and attack being launched and if west Shangur moves to stand against them, or shows significant weakness they seem ready to descend upon it and attempt to finish the invasion. Either a more formal diplomatic agreement with them, or sufficient military force to make an invasion incredibly costly would be needed to deter these actions.
  16. Mazdaki believers of all stripes remember the betrayal of Shangurian forces stealing their craft, torturing simple traders for information and kidnapping comparatively peaceful preachers, with the event entered into history and mythology as the massacre of blood bay. This prevents any trade with the Mazdak nations that posses much of the western shores of the Indian ocean and traders from other nations are also hesitant to sail into ports that so disrespected the general freedoms of trade and navigation, even after independence was gained, these traders remember which ports the massacre was done in and are hesitant given the remaining pride in the Shangur name. If the income from trade is to continue, some way around this negative reputation must be found.
  17. The Shanguri elites, that moved to West Shangur and make up many of the wealthiest families still follow the Alexandrist religion of the ancient government, while the current native nobility follow the Persian Zoroastrian religion, the majority of the poor in the northern half of the nation follow the Orthodox Christian faith and in the South radical mazdakism persists in much of the inland populace. While the republic is more secular than most these divides inspire distrust between the various populations, and these divisions may prove very problematic if left to fester.
  18. While the colonies of the old Shanguri state in east Africa are swiftly being pushed out due to a lack of support from the mainland, you are now capable of making voyages further down the coast. Perhaps one further from the settled cities of the Swahili coast could release pressure on the mainland.
  19.
  20. England
  21. SteelWriter
  22. Government: Centralised Monarchy
  23. Retinue: Queen Catherine Tudor (NG, S, 17), General Francis Norton (TN, C, 17) Explorer Jacob Morsely (CN, A, 16), Chancellor Thomas Seymour (LN, A, 16)
  24. Religion: Protestant
  25. Language: English
  26. Institutions: Experienced Navy, Centralised Government, Anglican Faith
  27. Relations: Scotland: Rival
  28. Military: Late Medieval
  29. Issues: Naval Losses, Northern Tensions, Catholic Resistance
  30. During the last period of crusades, king William Tudor pledged nearly the entirety of the English navy to help defeat the grand fleets of Berabia. This action was successful, and attempts at landing in France were replled allowing the French to maintain positions south of the Pyrenees. While overall a victory for Christendom, and a contributor in ensuring experienced sailors the series of battles also mauled the English fleet. It is now in serious need of rebuilding if the English want to continue their legacy as a competitive Atlantic naval power.
  31. Upon the death of King William his lack of sons ensured his daughter Catherine would come to the throne. While many lords initially resented following a woman’s leadership she has proven diplomatic, administratively competent and politically savvy.
  32. The recent movement towards Protestantism has enveloped much of the nation, but many still poses some loyalty to the Catholic church. Additionally a lot of land in England is still owned by monastic orders that profess loyalty to the Catholic system. Seizing it will enrage Catholics here and abroad but will also substantially add to your coffers.
  33. The Scottish border has always been volatile, while your armies seemed on average stronger, both sides would make occasional incursions. Now with religious divides running rife the border seem more ready to erupt in violence than ever before. If the Scots gained the support of the Catholic league they stand a good change of decisively winning a war unless we have more allies.
  34. News has reached you from the South of a great landmass across the western ocean. The opportunity is perhaps to great to pass up, but any attempt to colonise this land will require significant investments and early colonies could be vulnerable to failure in the earliest stages.
  35.
  36. Japan
  37. Not Important
  38. Government: Shogunate
  39. Retinue: Shogun Makimo Narinao (LN, B, 15), General Tani Yoshiuchi (LE, A, 17), Daimyo Fujioka Tadahide (NE, C, 16), Daimyo Un Sang-Kyu (TN, A, 17)
  40. Religion: Shinto
  41. Language: Japanese
  42. Institutions:
  43. Relations: None
  44. Military: Early Renaissance
  45. Issues: Mongol Threats, Powerful Regional Nobles, No Clear Heir
  46. The Yuan dynasty that has recently became dominant in China is seeking to expand it's power and prestige, they have vassalized the Korean peninsula and now seek some form of dominion over Japan, already demands for tribute or some form of vassalage have been received. While the Yuan are currently focusing their navy on fighting of the Azure, they could be ready for an invasion the moment some sort of resolution to that conflict is achieved. Whether a diplomatic solution or one of military preparedness is the better course something must be done to prevent an invasion rather than just hoping the gods intervene.
  47. With the military government running things the emperor maintains his position as the cultural head of Japan, causing a great new period of poetry art music and drama. Incorporating elemnts from both traditional Japanese culture, the Korean derived Bujog culture and elements of East Chinese cultural practice.
  48. While the shogun's government is theoretically the unquestioned military ruler of all japan, in practice most nobles maintain their own significant samurai armies. This means the shogun must be very careful in what actions they take and what taxes they levy, lest the Daimyo's refuse to comply and organise a rebellion. This in turn means that the Shogunate's government receives little in tax revenue and their own military requires aid from the more loyal daimyo's to be truly effective.
  49. Shogun Makimo Narinao lacks a living son capable of carrying on the legacy and the title of shogun. If he passes without clearly establishing an heir then the state will likely fall into rebellion turmoil and civil war at least for a time. He has several nephews, but all of them are either wastrels, incompetent or tied to another Daimyo that would inevitably use them as puppet rulers, with other Daiyo's attempting to hurl them down. He does have one unmarried daughter, marrying her off to an agreeable candidate and adopting the husband could work, but comes with it's own issues.
  50. Germany
  51. Unethical Humour
  52. Government: Imperial Confederation
  53. Retinue: King Heinrich Hollernzon (TN, B,17) General Ferdinand von Werth (LN, A, 16) Bishop Gottfried von Wallenstein (NG, C, 15) Chancellor Otto Thurn-Valsassina (NE, A, 17)
  54. Religion: Catholic????
  55. Language: German
  56. Institutions: Powerful Ducal Assembly, Strong Martial Traditions, Prosperous Lands
  57. Relations: France: Defensive Agreement
  58. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Papal States: Catholic Leauge
  59. Military: Late Medieval
  60. Issues: Frequent Religious Violence, Unruly Vassals, Opportunistic neighbours
  61. The Emperor is dead, long live the emperor. The previous emperor set a legacy as a diplomatic man and a peacemaker but died without issue. Thus his nephew was chosen by the council of nobles to lead Germany forward through this difficult time. The Agreements he made could save Germany, but they are not without their own costs and unless the kings breaks them there are significant limitations on the direction he may be able to go in the future.
  62. The Protestant reformation has lead to conflict across Europe, but no-where more so that in Germany. Already riots and peasant revolts have erupted in some parts of the north, and nobles who rule over these lands are often suspected of holding protestant sympathies themselves, refusing to co-operate with other forces. So far these have been local occurrences but they continue to grow and to increase the strain on imperial forces.
  63. Those Dukes that hold the bulk of their estates far from and danger had become resentful of the previous emperors greater attempts to have them support his various efforts. Though our ascension has made them wait and see before acting further. Demanding further support from them without giving something in return could cause them to elect a rival for the imperial throne from among their own number.
  64. While this is happening inside, further issues continue demanding your attention outside the borders. Hungary lays claim to many lands in the south of your realm, newly independent Italian states resent your control of many Italian lands and have sympathisers within your borders. Meanwhile, the Golden horde has slowly turned to worship Christ, but remain opportunistic and if you or the poles over exert yourselves they may seek to take ownership of your lands.
