- My buddy Francisco runs a brand called BuyVM.
- He's a VPS provider, basically equivalent to Vultr, Digital Ocean, or AWS without the marketing cloud bullshit that really just means a vps on bare metal, like everyone else.
- He's been in that industry since basically 2010.
- You might recognize him from LinusTechTips, if you're familiar.
- At the time the business was started out of passion.
- Fast forward 10 years later, he's sitting on 2.5 million worth of IPv4 addresses alone.
- (57,600 x $45 -- you do the math)
- Not including MRR, nor the physical gear he owns.
- Which by the way, buying an IP address block is a great investment right now every IPv4 address you own is worth about $45 each, which practically a year ago it was about $20 bucks each.
- One of the safest investments you can bet on...
- The internet continuing to grow.
- I digress, here's the point:
- We live in a generation which constantly craves gratification.
- That's usually not how it works.
- You have to put your head down and work.
- And more specifically?
- Work on the fucking brand.
- Francisco took what he started out of pure passion (as well as seeing a demand), and focused on branding.
- He created a very strong, no bullshit brand.
- He originally rose to fame, sort of speak for hosting DailyStormer.
- More or less his stance is, if the content is legal in the country, then I'm going to host it.
- It didn't matter if people wanted it canceled.
- He was vehemently pro-free speech.
- (Which I've spoken about in the past, polarity attracts and repels.)
- He had literally the New Yorker trying to cancel him.
- And guess what?
- He took the free advertisement, kept focusing on his target audience, and his brand is doing better now than it's ever been.
- Slow & steady wins the race.
- Usually things don't work out how you think they will...
- ...and people will most definitely hate you during the process.
- But:
- Just keep your head down, and keep working.
- The work will pay off, just don't expect it to pay off immediately.
- And, sometimes, you'll see the benefits of your work pay off in ways you wouldn't expect.
- 10 years from now, you'll appreciate the seeds you planted today.
- By the way, I have nothing to gain from this nor is this an affiliate link but if you can manage your site from Linux, I highly recommend BuyVM (my site is hosted via BuyVM).
