  1. The world is made up of dark places, held together by nothing but a thin wallpaper. And only few will be unlucky enough to ever leave that kind illusion.
  2.
  3. If one were to make a list of the worst places. Where to go would mean to go insane... One might mention the plain of remnants:
  4.
  5. To most who dabble in the occult, it is known why the gods have an interest in humankind. But only very few will have witnessed what it actually means to be consumed by one. Gods don't care for the body. Only for the soul. The soul is what gives them power. Let's them grow. It is the coal, in their fiery pits.
  6.
  7. But if the soul fuels the fire, where does the body go?
  8.
  9. It is, with the nicest euphemism, discarded. As all things living and eating, even gods have to shit somewhere. And unless they rule over a cult of cannibals, the corpses and bodys eventually end up in the darkness. There, the sprawling, unhealthy flesh of the deceased stretches... Well. However far it stretches. Nobody really knows, since not many people visit that place. Fewer still, go there more than once.
  10.
  11. Technically, it offers a shortcut between the terra aliena and real space. But you have to be very desperate, to wander this hideous plain of decay. It is not so much the stench even. The foul odour of everything that ever was alive, rotting for eternity. Neither the feeling of the dead flesh beneath your feet, moving, slightly, under your every step with dreadful intent. What truly keeps people away... Or me at least. It is the forests. I shall only call them forests, for a lack of better description. Like abominable kelp, they stretch towards the starless sky, extending over this plain, so utterly depraved of solace. Let's hope mankind never finds out what matter of being, the gods devoured to create such horrid thing. And I swear, that even though there is no wind on this cursed plain, the damned tendrils are swaying, as if caught by some breeze or current, undetectable or maybe just incomprehensible, to the human mind.
  12.
  13. If you spent some time in the tenebrous embrace of this abyss, with the failure of life, displayed before you... You understand. That is, why the alchemist brought his followers to that place. To make sure they understood why it is so important to hate the gods. And all those who share in their carnage.
  14.
  15. Just don't stay too long. Or they will notice.
